Tonyo - legion 2 Posted September 7, 2010 Hi Guys, I thought I would share some pics of the shuttleworth pageant taken on Sunday, Alas, the Se5a didnt fly but the other 3 did All in all not a bad airshow at all, unfortunately, due to the high winds they were unable to fly the old 1909 bleriot, or the 1912 Blackburn etc., but there's always next year All the best... Olham 164 Posted September 7, 2010 Oh, you islanders - how I envy you for that collection, and the number of airshows every year! Wonderful pictures, Tonyo!
Dej 17 Posted September 7, 2010 Hey Devs! Any chance of getting one of those improvised wire sights for our pups? Nice set of pics, Tonyo.
Tonyo - legion 2 Posted September 7, 2010 Thanks Olham, but i must confess that Its actually the first time that ive been to a shuttleworth airshow!! but i was pleasantly surprised at how sedate & leisurely the whole thing was - no pushing, shoving or being packed in like sardines at Duxford flying legends!! The one big shame was that there wasn't any Fokker triplanes or German machines - apart from the newly restored fiesler storch - man that machine can fly slow - it looked like it was hovering in mid-air. on a good note, shuttleworth are getting an exact replica of a Sopwith camel in the coming year - rock on!! mikeymead 17 Posted September 7, 2010 I love the Shuttleworth shows, I try and get to see at least one a year, normally the military pageants. The atmosphere is so relaxed and I love how compact the place is. The best air display I ever saw there was a RAF Buccaneer in the late 1980's which came in so low I swear it had to climb to clear the boundary hedge. Such a contrast to their more sedate biplanes. RAF_Louvert 101 Posted September 7, 2010 . I love the Shuttleworth Collection. I enjoyed it many times back when I lived in England. Thanks for sharing, Tonyo.
Hellshade 110 Posted September 7, 2010 Amazing pictures! Thanks so much for sharing them. The Sopwith Triplane looks beautiful. I see the Pup really does have that annoying thick black covering around the clear shield behind the gun. So strange. I wonder why they made it that way. At any rate, wonderful pics. Thanks! Olham 164 Posted September 7, 2010 (edited) I wonder why they made it that way. Well, the pilot could press his forehead against the leather protection for aiming, and when he had a crash landing, it would protect him (a little bit) from the forward impact his head would make on the shield. themightysrc 5 Posted September 9, 2010 I severely heart the business end of that Brisfit - Major Timm, I'm sure, will be very happy when - if - he ever gets to clock one of those...
