OT- most dangerous airport

Recommended Posts

I've just watched a programme I recorded a while ago - Top 10 Most Dangerous Airports.

Lukla in Nepal (now called Hilary Tenzing I think) was shown as No. 1. It looked like pure luxury compared to when I flew there in the 80's.

It's got a tarmac runway now. It wasn't much more than gravel back then. Not my video but this is more like it used to be.

Mess that one up and there is only one go around straight to the pearly gates... do not pass go do not wait for off loading of your luggage as it will get there about the same time you do...

Tried landing there a few times in FSX always an interesting experience... take off down hill over the cliff and land uphill... Is a great test just hope its not snowing foggy or too windy...

Very true - no second chance. I think I'm right in saying the runway is inclined at about 12 degrees. The whole experience I found was like flying at a brick wall and missing.

Hey, you have really landed there, tranquillo???

I tried to do so with a twin engine prop aircraft (forgot which one it was) in FSX.

Coming from a WW1 Albatros, it was a sweat driving experience.

I shreddered the craft on the runway, but might have survived the proceedure.

It wasn't only the short runway - the approach is also made through the mountains around you.

Yes. I was taking time out from working and had travelled across land from the UK - across Europe, Asia. I think 14 countries altogether.

The flight to Lukla was equalled in adventure by the bus ride from Jammu to Srinigar in Kashmir. What a journey that was :yikes:.

Man - the last adventurer you are! That's great - no one can steal those memories from you!
