Meh!!! differences in planes

Recommended Posts

If you have read my only other post you will know that I have a hard on for the Sukhoi series, so here goes.

Will the "Pugachev" Cobra maneuver be available for the Su-27?

I have had a good number of flight sims in my years of gaming and I have noticed that most planes are not special. They all have the same maneuvers, and most are close to having the same top speed and ceiling. So the question is...

Is LOMAC gonna be just another cheesy "Jane's" game? I didnt go out and buy USAF because I hate the zoom zooms, but i had the box set of jane's (christ I think is was USNF, and Nato Fighters and something else, but it was old). And everything was the same.

Are the planes going to be dramatically different from eachother or are the boys at LOMAC rushing this thing, because of all the delays?

I dont want to see an F-4 staying with an F-16 in a dogfight!!!

Snapple, if your only experience with the Jane's simulations are from USAF and the other survey sims they put out, you unluckily have only been playing with the bottom of the barrel.

Jane's did its best work with Longbow 2, F-15 and F/A-18. All three are still regarded as some of the most realistic simulations on the market, ever.

Can't beat the systems offered in F-15 and F-18, they're survivors and still a worth while play.

I've got a good chunk of the Jane's Combat Sim Collection:

Fighters Anthology, IAF, USAF, F-15 Officer's Edition, F-18 and the Longbow Series all in mint condition. They're sort of a collector's item in todays Flight Sim arena.

Just wish I could get some free time for a sortie or two in F-15/F-18, college O.K and pilot training S**T HOT, but demanding!!!!!!

Somehow Snapple I find this to be a double negative. All the delays are because they are NOT trying to rush this game.

As far as the original question, about the cobra manuever, no one can really answer that question better the Matt Wagner. My guess/opinion would be that it CAN be accomplished due to the fact that Matt and the DEV team are making a SIMULATION vs an Arcade style game. This means that they are trying to reproduce every aspect of real life (RL) conventionally possible. With the right hotas, configurations, and experience, you should probably be able to reproduce this manuever. The real question is, why would you want to? Flight Combat Simulation and RL Combat are almost always a factor of energy management. If your aircraft dissapates energy....well...you become a sitting duck (No Offense DuckFly)

Maybe I'll try the manuever a few times to see if I can deliver dumb ordinance more accurately.

Good Luck!

Snapple,

Maybe to better explore your own thoughts, I would pickup a copy of FLANKER 2.0/2.5 . I assure you that it will take so time to get proficient at it,

however if your wondering about LOMAC and the Complexity of flight modeling, then you will find out why alot of folks are viewing LOMAC with much antisipation.

Flanker models the SU-27 and Su-33 well and convincingly, 2.5 will let you have a go at Mig 29 as well. To add another demesion, there are Carrier landings.

LOMAC builds on this Sim (minus the Naval aspect of Flanker) and will be adding more environment as well as Flight models.

Although Flanker has a somewhat stale invironment, it is a great Sim. and If you 've never flown it, I would say get it, and by the time you become comfortable with it LOMAC will be released.

The Officer's Edition of Janes F-15, was a special limited edition of the title marketed by Electronic Arts. In-addition to the regular package (Casual and Expert Flight manuals, Instal. Guide, CD and Keyboard map) the Officer's Edition included an Authentic Strike Eagle Shoulder Patch, Prima's F-15 Strategy Guide and a Jet Navigation Chart of the Persian Gulf Area of Operation.

Awesome! Never knew they had a special edition. Jeez, I love that game. I could whip that F-15 around and use the M-61 like a surgeon. And I love how it pioneered realistic AIM-9 IF sensors. God, ACM is so fun.
