Number of Missions per day

I'm wondering if any one knows the realistic number of missions flown by pilots per day during the war? Also, does OFF assign night and/or dusk missions during a campaign?

 

I'm flying during the first half of 1915.

I don't know, but seeing as the purpose of the game is to enjoy yourself, I'd say that the best course of action is to indulge your imagination. If you feel that come late April, early May - and assuming you're in the relevant sector - you wish to fly several times a day to reflect that the 2nd battle of Ypres was underway, then why not?

 

My own personal rule of thumb is once a day and no more - unless I know that the combination of time and place means that I would (as a pilot or observer) been up more frequently. Given that my longest lasting pilot is in an RE8 and Operation Michael is in a few months, I'm tempted to bail out, but I won't. After all; what sort of game and genuflection to the men who actually fought, to distort the timeline for our own convenience?

From the German books I read, I would say 2 - 3 missions a day. Not sure about hotspots though.

 

I have set "Mission frequency" to "Historical". Here Shredward has taken the weather into account,

 

as it had been then. So you will not have to fly on some bad days. The flying days seem to offer

 

3 missions a day mostly.

There is a lot of useful information in these forums and it seems overwhelming to grasp it all. I think that I will start with the default of 3 missions per day just to gain more experience with navigation (paper maps) and aircraft control. I may need to work on "role playing" a bit more through reading and thus increasing my sense of immersion in the game.

Yes, the reading would give you an even deeper immersion, if you pick some good books.

 

A very good English book would be "No Parachute" by Arthur Gould Lee.

 

A good German read you find translated is "Malaula! The Battle Cry of Jasta 17" by Julius Buckler.

there were times when they went up once a day, especially rookies. one group in the morning, one group in the afternoon. veterans went up as it is in the historical setting in BHAH, 2-3 times a day. there were times, especially during battles when they went up sometimes 5 times or more. but mostly when scrambling inbound two seaters who were seen loitering somewhere near. also sometimes they went up out of order. without any particurlar task. just going up and looking for trouble.

i think the historical setting covers that pretty well. only with the difference that fights occured every 5th or so sortie, not almost on every sortie.
