Hi everyone! first of My respect and a huge thanks to MirageFactory, Typhoid and fractalnoise for their Tomcat MODS they have given me the chance to fly my favorite aircraft of all time and kulbilt80 for the Tomcat Over Europe Campaign.

 

Now i'm relatively new to the game and much more newer on modding. i was able to get the the f-14A and D on the TOE campaign and i was able to get them loaded with AIM54s however i was wondering if any of you could help me on some inquiries i have.

 

1. Aim 54 launches and hits however its range isn't different from the AIM7 is there a way to increase acquisition/lock/Firing range?

2. The F-14 has one of the most advance radar of its time. Better than the F-4,F-16 and such. The APG-71 in the f-14D(same as the APG70 in the F-15) even has a faster processing speed. the best part is the F-14 can track multiple target and engage 6 at the same time. so is there a way to configure the radar?

3. Also the Tarps and Lantirn Pod gave it far better air to ground and recon ability much greater than the F-18. the F-14D mod suppose to include it but i'm never fighured out how to make it work or if it works. Any Idea?

4. Can anyone help me in removing the Glove vane in the F-14 D? i thought it was out but it appears at sonic flight. the D doesn't have it.

5. This is related to question 2 and 3. I need help on the weapons stations and loading position. The F-14 have the most comprehensive weapons and munitions arsenal. So if anyone can help me in figuring out how to add the weapons load and correct the positions. here's a diagram on the air to ground and air to air loadout of the f-14 http://www.anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-weaponstation.htm#atg.

6. I love the gun tracking in the f-15 mod of WOE. is there a way to put that on the f-14? since the APG-71 is an enhanced version of the APG-70 it should be able to carry it. and its just cool.

 

i know im asking too much but i saw that there is a lack of thread regarding the F-14 and i know a lot of people would also benefit for the info/help im requesting. thanks in advance. i wish that this thread can compile most of the stuff about f-14 modding. if you have any new news and development please share. if i have anything to add i will. thanks again.

Hey, Greyman,

 

I can offer some insights to some of your questions;

 

1. If you installed the AIM-54 from the aircraft install, it should already have a range of around 90 to 100 miles. You can check the range either in the weapondata.ini, or using the weapon editor. If it is short (it shouldn't be), you can manually increase it.

2. TWS-A/TWS-M is not modeled in the TW series, so you cannot do the track 24/shoot 6. You can ripple fire AIM-54's by locking one target, shooting, then breaking lock and selecting a new target and shooting, then going to #3, repeat until you're out of Phoenix.

3. TARPS and LANTIRN are in the game (part of weapon packs), but you don't actually take pictures on recce, so the TARPS pod doesn't really do much. LANTIRN or another targeting pod is necessary for LGB's. To find your primary target, hit "E" (default), and when in range, drop your LGB. The LANTIRN will automatically hold on the target if you have it equipped.

4. The glove vane is part of the 3D model. If it is deactivated in the .ini, it defaults to open. One way you can get it to stay shut is if you make it deploy at an extremely high mach (2.3, or something like that).

5. Weapon stations can be modified in the aircraft's data.ini, more information should be available in the Knowledge Base on this.

6. Might need a better description; what do you mean by "put that on the F-14"?

I got the AIM 54 was my fault, im using the radar wrong,

 

as for the load out i was able to split one of the pair and allowed several classes of munition by doing this on the LOADOUT.ini

as for the gun the F15 gun sight in WOE moves in accordance to the target making gun kills a bit neater. plus the data display in the screen is much better. so i was wondering if its possible to get avionics (im not sure if that what covers it) to the f-14.

 

BTW some should have warned me about this modding buss. by the time i realize whats happening i was awake for 26hrs. got caught up in a little problem with adding/editing campaign so i can add several f-14 models on it. I have the Tomcat over Europe mod but it only has the A model on it. been trying to get other model on it and trying to get several tomcat as option in a single campaign. was able to get several tomcat type on a squadron on mission only. and got the F-14 on one campaign problem with that is that its in the USAF 7th TFS squad instead on one of the USN. the tutorial for this seems to be missing any input?

 

when i was trying to mod the campaign i downloaded SFP1E. instruction said to look for the cat on camapaign but theres none. checked every cat and got these out of the flight folder; SQUADRONLIST.ini and WOECAMP2.ini and WOECAMP2_DATA.ini.

 

WOECAMP2.ini and WOECAMP2_DATA.ini. i extracted are unchanged even after placed the TOE mod. i experimented on the WOECAMP2.ini and WOECAMP2_DATA.ini. to try to add the tomcats.

 

this is how it turned. if possible can anyone point out the mistakes.

I'm a bit rusty since going to SF2 and using the new TMF Tomcat mods for that series, but I'll recount what I remember.

 

For the glove vanes:

 

Setting[1].DeployValue=1.39

Setting[1].RetractValue=1.41

 

Increase both of these. I think when I was using that mod, I had them at around 2.30 for deploy and 2.31 for retract, since, save for doing a speed run, I never got the jet that fast.

 

For loadouts, you're at the right spot with the "AllowedWeaponClass" to increase the number of types of weapons that can be carried - modifying this will change what can be put on which weapon pylons. Also note the maximum allowed weight; I don't remember off the top of my head, but if you want 2,000 pound bombs available, I think you need to increase the Phoenix pylon's maximum allowed weight.

 

In terms of your guns:

 

Check out the cockpit by The Trooper in the downloads section, it brings the pit closer to the F-14A's 'pit (unless it has been added to the basic download), along with the F-14A and F-14B's simplified gunsight. It had been smooth for me when I used it. As it stands in reality, the F-14A and F-14B (until 2003) didn't have the greatest gunsights with their 1970's vintage Kaiser HUD, described by some pilots as "jittery", and this was one of the "fixes" brought in the F-14D, and later upgraded F-14Bs (using the SparrowHawk HUD).

 

You can change out avionics, HUD symbology, etc. by modifying the AVIONICS.ini in the F-14 folder, and including any .tga's for other bits of desired avionics, such as different gunsights, ASE circles, pitch bars, etc.

 

For your Campaign:

 

Look in the "CampaignData.ini" - the units need to include F-14's in there, too (just added an F-14 unit to the SF2 Modern Warfare Korea mod, myself). If they already are, ensure that you installed the campaign properly.

botched everything up yesterday trying to add different models. game crashed loading the campaign. downloaded the Operation Dessert Storm Camp(looks great on a pc but heavy on my laptop). installed that and the TOE. Checked the ODS ini's. Saw that the UnitID in the campaign.in and the [AirUnit] in the campaig_data is always the same. same as the Squadron Type and texture should be available on the aircraft folder. i did it like this.

However my fictional F-14 mod still wont go in must be a naming error? the full name Attack Super Tomcat 21 shows on the campaign screen but when i got into the loadout screen it changes to a different aircraft.

oh yeah im just pushing it but i liked making the tomcat go mach 2.3 on the F-14_AST however whenever i try to go past 800kts the jet explode. i tried to put this data in.

i made this changes and i still get the over heat warning. havent tried to see if it'll catch fire and explode. if it works it'll be fun to create a mission to just fly around in. ^_^

I've been fooling around with an SF2 campaign set recently and I have found at least some of the issues that are probably preventing you from getting your F-14's into your campaign. But first: It is fairly well documented that if you leave the blower plugged in for too long, you'll overheat the engine and set your plane on fire. You're not going to get an F-14 up to Mach 3 without it catching fire in SF. As it stands, the F-14's top achieved speed was 2.34.05M in Grumman tests (1973), with crews claiming higher numbers, but rarely naming "who did it" (One revealed to be Capt Dale "Snort" Snodgrass who pushed an F-14 to beyond 70,000ft and to around 2.5M, which also nearly destroyed the engines from overstress (ref both: "Wings of Fury" and "Bye Bye, Baby".)) Sustaining speeds higher than 2.3M can cause canopy warp, and a placard limit of 1.88M was imposed later due to the possibility of Ramps failure at high speed. In terms of the engine settings, I have no idea what most of the pointed-out values are; FireSuppression makes it so that there is a chance an engine fire will go out, but if you're going too fast, or the chance fails, you're going to burn. I also don't know how high you'd have to set your overheat temps. One thing you might do is check an airplane's values that is M3 capable and transcribe them to your planned M3 capable F-14.

 

In terms of getting your F-14 units to show up in your campaign:

 

Note that you've named all of your F-14 units as USNUnit001. Make sure these increment. Also, check your UnitID number against the AirUnit number, and ensure they match. This is how I was able to get an pair of F-14 units into Spectre's Modern Korean war campaign for SF2. For example:

Also, check your squadrons (one of your F-14 units seems to be part of the 7th Tactical Fighter Squadron). Note that your first F-14 unit in the general campaign .ini shows the UnitID to be 31, but this does not correspond with AirUnit001 in the campaign's data.ini.

Its a bit excessive but it works. overheat warnings on full time but it never burned. just runs out of gas real quick. thats easily fixed.

 

The only thing that got me stumped right now is that i cant get additional enemy fighters on the game and increase enemy squad size? i added the su-27 on ODS but it aint showing and is the carrier really indestructable? created an anti ship mission. i dropped a 1000lbs bomb and its unscratch. haha

Hey Ceasar , thanks for all your help. youve been a lot of help. been doing a lot of stuf lately and this one really got me stumped.

 

1. is there anyway to have a manual control over the swing sweep. just for aesthetic purpose.(parking the plane in the carrier and taking snaps). like use the animation key , i.e. ANIMATION_10=SHIFT+0 to close the wing when the tomcat is on ground.

 

2. Is it possible to have make certain munition specific to an aircraft like the AIM-54 to be only handled by the F-14. since as i checked the F-18 in game can handle it? im thinking that maybe i could set up a different WeaponData.ini that have specific munitions to each type. something like F-14weapondata.ini or Su-27weapondata.ini. problem is im not sure how to make work.

 

3. Is the aircraft carriers really indestructible? I loaded the f-14 with 2000lbs bomb, AGM's and Pave's none of them did anything i even landed on an enemy carrier and unload the guns into the tower untill i get bored and did nothing. ^_^

found this neat trick REARM_WEAPONS=ALT+W lets you go to war, use up all your ammo. land at a (friendly) base(only for realism),and reload while on mission. wonder if theres a fuel version ^_^

2. In the The Weapons editor there is a Station Code box - and you can put something like AIM54A in there for the AIM-54A and save it.

 

Then on the F-14s weapons stations in the F-14A_Data.ini - find where the phoenix go and add the line:

3. Pretty much I believe - you could make the carrier a Cargo ship type or something but I dont think you can land on it if you do that.....been a while

For #1, check the DeploymentMethod for your wings - they should read "AUTOMATIC_MACH" by default. I think you have to change that to MANUAL or MANUAL_WITH_BLOWBACK, and set your animation ID (kind of like your flaps). The thing is, I've never tried it with MANUAL, so I have no idea how well it will work; suffice to say to give yourself control, it cannot use AUTOMATIC_MACH as its deployment method, and you're going to have to experiment some.

 

For 2 and 3, MB's got you covered. I remember the same info in terms of carriers - you can either have an indestructible carrier that you can take off/land from, or have a destructible carrier which you cannot.

I'm going to try and do what Migbuster said about the station code. I'm guessing its gonna take a lot of trial and error to get the manual deployment and dual deployment method is next to impossible and It seems like a carrier vs carrier fleet battle is out of the question. Oh well i guess i just have to choose between the two and will have to make do in taking out the escorts convoys. ^_^

Hey guys its me again. Adding new stuff to the game can be a lots of fun problem is i can easily loose track of what i did. right now the game folder reached 12.65GB of add on aircrafts/terrains/missions, and campaigns( managed to put the desert,ODS,WOE and WOi camp into WOI.) problem i face now is that the AI pilot F14D model lands the plane nose down at a very steep angle. Im wondering if there's an easy fix for this aside from re installing the aircraft. ive done some considerable changes to the ini's and added several skins.
