OT A great story on TV

Heard a wonderful story from the annals of WW2 on cable today.

 

A woman, who worked in a Nottingham Parachute Factory during the last war, used to take home off cuts of silk, that were too small, and therefore no use to anybody.

She was a seamstress by trade before the war, and used to make Ladies undergarments.

 

She used to make Knickers for her friends in her spare time, and enjoyed embroidery as well.

Apparently, she would embroider a picture of a Heinkel or ME 109 on the knickers, with some wording which said.... "These go down without a fight"

In the film "Enigma" (code-breaking at Bletchley) there's a scene at a boarding house dinner table where one fellow claims to have read in the newspapers that, as a special wartime measure, a new "Utility" style of knickers have been invented. One Yank, and they're off.

Great example for a good business idea! And that even war couldn't wipe out British humour. Wonderful!

Thers a U tube vid that has a story about Lord Lovett going ashore on D Day with Bag Pipes playing. Althought the British Command had ordered no Bag Pipes. ( They made too much racket) Lovett is said to have stated that the order didn't apply to his Command because they were Scottish. Another story . Some of the captured Germen Infantry on D Day were ask why they didn't shoot the Bag Pipe players The reply was ( From most of them) How can you shoot someone so dumb to be making all that noise pointing out where he is located.

Or possibly, Carrick, the thinking went, "There's a guy with bagpipes and 10,000 guys with guns. Whom should I shoot first?" The answer seems clear to me.
