FEG wont load properly I get a black screen

Suddenly, FEG doesnt load when I click on the start emblem.

All I get is a black screen.

And when I call up the windows task manager the screen still remains black.

I can see the FEG game and the task manager symbols at the bottom of the screen but no FEG menu screens.

 

I renamed the FE folder and loaded a fresh version of the game but it made no difference.

I guess I might have to delete both old and new versions and start afresh. I dont mind doing this but if someone can suggest a simpler fix I be very glad to hear it.

Everything else, including other games and the internet still work fine. I just get this black screen when I open the game.

Just a few older games from GOG.com, B17, Panzer Elite, the Tom Clancy series etc. Rainbow Six might have done something?
