Sheriff001 Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Just tested 6 AIM-4Ds against QF-100s in the range terrain - 6 shots, 6 hits, 6 kills. Here is my theory. The radar guided missiles will track against the strongest return depending on aspect. In tail chase, this is probably the fuselage. IR Falcons track the strongest heat source - an engine. When firing an AIM-4 against a QB-47, this leaves no margin for error due to the podded engines and thin wing. When firing at a QF-100, the IR missiles track the fuselage because that's where the engine is fitted, so even if there's a little error, there is still something to hit.
Sheriff001 Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 (edited) Just did another test flight, this time against Tu-16 drones on the Range terrain. 6 shots, 6 hits, 6 kills. One interesting point, like the New York Times and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the AIM-4 Falcon has a left-wing bias. Edited October 17, 2013 by Sheriff001
DaniloE31 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 ... One interesting point, like the New York Times and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the AIM-4 Falcon has a left-wing bias. has the Bravo AIM-9 too, btw...
Lexx_Luthor Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Z:: I found a great pdf on the AIM-4 once, and promptly lost it. Found it again! http://www.scribd.co...Family-USA-2010 THANKS I haven't seen that one yet. After reading it, just found a more readable version, NO scrib, basic Aussum web page, great index... ~~> http://www.ausairpower.net/Falcon-Evolution.html 1
