ironroad Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Yeesh those carriers had to have been smaller than the USN's refitted Essex-class ships...and they launched and recovered F-4s and Buccaneers on those! Hats off to our UK cousins, they were the pioneers of modern naval aviation. 6
Major Bloodnok Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Thanks for those, here's another good one: Hms Eagle and F-4 Phantoms 1969 3
Major Bloodnok Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) Here is where it all started for jets on carriers - 1945. Edited June 10, 2015 by Major Bloodnok 2
ironroad Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Never knew the sea vixen had such an offset cockpit. Also, anyone know if the Royal Navy's carrier-based F-4s were ever used for A/G or were they strictly air defense? One would figure that was a lot of weight to haul off those tiny decks.
B52STRATO Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Seems like it was the case with SNEB rockets pods and small/medium sized bombs.
