Need Campaign and Terrain Experts Help

Recommended Posts

I need help with a couple of campaign and terrain issues that have me stumped.

These aren't show stoppers but annoying little ankle biters that keep popping up.

While strolling through the SF1 campaigns download section about a year ago I came across Gepard’s Rolling Thunder campaign for SFP1 : http://combatace.com/files/file/1154-rolling-thunder/.

This intrigued me a bit so I downloaded it and found there is no read me and no instructions.  Considering I have and fly Wings over Vietnam and this seemed to be redundant and otherwise useless I put it aside.

While looking for SF1 projects to play with, I kept coming across this campaign and it began to challenge me to put together a SFP1/SFG Vietnam install.

As there were no instructions, I looked at the required campaign planes, ships, etc, and found many of the required items are not in SFP1/SFG.  And where it would be easy enough to 'borrow' items from WoV, I decided to challenge myself and not use any items from Wings Over Vietnam.

I figured Wings Over Europe was fair game and borrowed the B-52, F-105D and a ship from that game.  All other items would be 3rd party, ie. the Mirage Factory, Armour Dave, RAZBAM, DAT, YAP, etc..  This also gave me a chance to use some the old planes and items I quit using as the SF1 games progressed and some SF2 items were usable for my WoV installs.

So, I got a Strike Fighters Vietnam install put together.  Still lots of details to tweak but most is up and running.

My first and most annoying problem seems to be related to the campaign.  It uses Gepard’s DRV terrain available here: http://combatace.com/files/file/1644-drvv151/.  It was created to use SFP1/SFG.

This terrain includes USAF bases in Thailand.

When I fly from the Thailand bases in single mission mode, the bases are friendly/blue as they should be.

BUT when I fly from the Thailand bases in campaign mode the bases are enemy/red.  I'm lucky to make it off the runway before the base's anti-air defense guns open up on me.  Makes take offs and landings knuckle whitening events.

I've stared at the campaign data.ini entries till my eyes crossed.  I just don't know enough about campaign.ini files to know what to look for or what to change.

SO...  my first question is to campaign experts:  Does anyone know what causes the afore mentioned problem and how to fix it?

Secondly, if you've never flown the DRV terrain, you missed out on one of SF1's most interesting terrains.  You can set the game on easy but I think the terrain just ignores that.

There are more sams and more flak in the air over mission targets than I've seen on any other terrain while set on easy.  I get blown out of the sky more than any other game with the possible exception of SF2NA.

SO... my second question is to terrain gurus:  How can I turn down the amount of anti-air defense and sams when I've already set the game to easy?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I PM'd Gepard  a couple of months back about these issues but he currently seems to be on a sabbatical from Strike Fighters and I've received no answer from him.

As I said, these aren’t show stoppers but would like to learn how to fix these if possible.

And, yes I do have and play a couple dozen SF2 installs.  This has just become a challenge I’ve enjoyed assembling.

And yes, I know I can just put my big boy pants on and quit whining about being shot down all the time and take it like a man, but #@&%*!!, flying over this terrain is a &*^%$!.

Any help is appreciated.
