Playing SF off USB stick

I have been paying SF off a USB stick and it was going very smooth until I did the last Windows update a week ago. Now there's a lag in the game. Are there ways I can remove the lag or do I now need to put the game back in my programs files in the hard drive. My problem is that this game take up so much hard drive space.

My SF2:NA is over 118GB, no flash drive can help my 10 minute load time!
