Your Toughest Opponent
Caesar replied to Caesar's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wow, I'm surprised at how many folks here also have the Fresco as their toughest opponent! And here I thought I was the only one who could not believe my dogfights were lasting minute-after-minute trying to gun those suckers or get 'em off my tail. I've noticed that the MiG-21 can also be pretty tricky, but for some reason it isn't as consistantly tough as the -17. -
TMF MiG-29s Released!
Caesar replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I finally did it (Tomcat vs Fulcrum), the only problem is, is that it kept being a missile exchange, (think I merged once and then it was heaters). So, taking my own advice, I did a GUNS only install of WoE and got to do Tomcat v. Fulcrum the only way it is meant to be: with GUNS (obviously)! Found out a few things: 1. AI doesn't anticipate the use of the Big Boys (flaps) 2. Fulcrum doesn't fly well at under 300kts I really have to try this against a human opponent because it was no contest. Did Eagle (Wing) and Tomcat (me) vs. 2 Fulcrums. Had wingie take the lead, I took the trail. My wingman apparently had a low skill or something because it turned into both Fulcrums on me for a while, and after a few turns, one broke off and saddled my Wingman in a heartbeat. The other one got way too slow (we got under 200 kts) and I curled inside him with ease, first snapshot missed, second I got the pipper solid on him and bang. Raised flaps, kept telling the Wingman to break and Zone 5'd it over to him. This was easier as the AI gets fixated on its target, took a little bit of tracking, then Zing! Fulcrum two down (got a few screenies of it). Now, I'd like to take the Fulcrum up for guns only vs. the Tomcat or Eagle...which I will be doing soon to see how the AI handles those aircraft against the MiG! EDIT: Still waitin' on a Cat or Eagle, but I will say that the Phantom is an easy target when it's lacking AIM-7's or AIM-9's! The MiG sticks to 'em like glue. -

AleDucat, you are correct: F-14A and B use(d) the Martin Baker GRU-7A, the D uses the NACES. -
TMF MiG-29s Released!
Caesar replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm still waitin' to fight against 'em in my Tomcat! Just flew about 10 missions, not a Fulcrum to be seen. Two times there were Flankers, but my flight whomped 'em, the rest of the time was Fishbeds, Foxbats and Foxhounds. Flying AS the Fulcrum, I've been getting beat to hell as of recent, by everything from Phantoms to Eagles, not in dogfights, but about 20 miles prior to the merge! I really gotta say we (the West) had the edge in missiles up til the 1990s! If my flight ever did get to the merge, however, and so long as the Phantastic Phantoms didn't have any Lima or Mike heaters left, they were like grapes in the sky. Think I need another install of WoE...GUNS only! Really enjoying the mod, guys! -
Saw it...friggin LONG and only fair at best (by the end, one of the lines a character says is "some things never end" and a guy in the audience shouted out "yeah! like this movie!" and the whole theatre busted out laughing 'cause we were all thinking the same thing). I think it'd have been better if I read the comics because I could not connect with any of the characters, a bunch of the parts feel like they could have been cut out/were irrelevant, and some of it plain didn't make sense. The acting was fine, however. And yes, there is quite a great deal of man a$$/frontal in it; was not a fan of that.

TMF MiG-29s Released!
Caesar replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Took up the Fulcrum and I've gotta say I am impressed. The level of detail has really set a new standard for TMF, and yet I didn't even notice a framerate hit. Again, great work guys! -

My Projects (EricJ)
Caesar replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Congratulations on the release! Even as a Tomcat guy, I can say I'm glad these panned out, and I have downloaded all 3; will have to try them when I get time later tonight. Bravo Zulu, gentlemen! -
That's because you have outside knowledge and the freedom to think. In NK, "America is the cause of every single hardship (down to nightly blackouts) and is the greatest evil in the world", and anyone against their Dear Leader is just as bad. There's an interesting documentary that was done by the BBC about two girls in the mass games, the level of access granted to the British crew was unprecedented...and even from that little glimpse, I have no reservations in saying that place is ROYALLY jacked up.

Great work, TMF! Just got back from a strike with this bird that included some air-to-air splashes with the SLUF. Quite a fiesty one in close, I've noticed. -
Legalizing Pot for Money?!? What Has Happened to America?!?
Caesar replied to Anthony W.'s topic in The Pub
Drug of choice for me is gin and vermouth, 5:1 (read one shot gin to 1/5 shot vermouth, increase factors by two for double, etc.) ratio approximately, usually with a "Texas Martini Olive" (bigass olive with a jalepeno stuffed in it) or 2. -

Damn good point. -

Well, you've got your statistics, I've got my experiences and they seem to indicate otherwise. But I do acknowledge, yes personality does get into it quite a bit and was likely the deciding factor on some of my friends: the drug won't smoke itself, nor force anyone to smoke it just as a gun can't pull its own trigger, it does take the person. -

Caesar replied to Anthony W.'s topic in The Pub
Not being a pot-smoker, I don't care either which way. On the one hand, legalizing it would take away that "forbidden fruit" factor and if anything, may even decrease its use. On the other hand, it is a gateway drug; I know damn well that it is and I know plenty of people who have gotten into heavier stuff who started with pot; one of which is dead from an OD, another is on medication as a result of his use but is completely clean, still others are trying to get clean but keep relapsing, some are headed for ODs and just don't care. Bit of a tricky situation. -
How Low Do You Go?
Caesar replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Haha, now those are rare, but I do know of a Tomcat that did nearly the same thing, so named "Deerslayer" (BuNo 158616, if my research was accurate) eats a deer on the runway, which severs the right-side break line, then the a/c crashes into a VF-41 jet (AC 106), which was just returned to flying status after extensive maint. Both got fixed and returned to flight status, and no one was injured in the crash...actually I tacked Deerslayer into my fictional VF-1 squadron skins as NK107. With regard to flying low in game, I'll need to get some screenies, but I can think of a few double-digit altitudes for SAM evasion I had to pull... -
How do you manage your squadron?
Caesar replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, air threats are seeable on the map (estimates) but SAMs are a matter of experience. With the DS Mod, I first flew with a four-ship formation. Then I saw how many SAM sites lit up and decided through most of the campaign to fly either two or one-ship. I think the first three missions I used a four-ship regardless to try to get as many kills as possible, and only lost one guy to an SA-3 on day 3 (right after he bagged a Fulcrum). I'm pretty deep in right now and only just recently lost another squadronmate while in a two-ship formation after we got lit up by an SA-8 site. After he got shot, I hit the SAM site with my gun. I've been shooting SAM and radar sites regularly now, full burner, One-Pass-and-Haul-Ass, Baby! stuff so the AAA doesn't have a chance to go active and splash me using one or two-ship flights. -

Caesar replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If there's a lot of bandits, little AAA/SAM activity, I take more planes (4-8); with fewer bandits, less planes. If there's a lot of SAM activity, I don't care how many bandits there are, I take either 2 or launch alone and unafraid. I'd rather not loose half my squadron in one mission. -
Downloading thru Steam right now. Anyone else got it yet?

82. Good luck is upon the two pilots; and everyone is counting on them 81. It's a big, pretty white plane that looks like a big Tylenol 80. Failure to follow the landing pattern, especially between 800 and 1200 feet makes the pilot an a**hole 79. Gynecological appointments can be maintained and preformed on a troubled aircraft
