I Got It !!!!
abaris replied to visible structural damage's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I'm using the 3.9 catalist drivers. Tried out the Omegas too, but they screwed FS9 and brought no overall improvement. Everything runs fine on my machine, including LOMAC. It's just that the card doesn't perform as it should - and that seems to be an issue, ATI is aware of. At least they give out some mild warning about the 9600 and the KT board, which I happen to own. -

I have no problems with LOMAC. The card crashing problems occured when I purchased the Card. And if I had known about the 9600 issues, I wouldn't have purchased it. But you're right: You can leave fastwrites enabled. It just doesn't increase the card's capability. AGP8 is the crasher. -

I've noticed, that you also use the Radeon 9600 Pro. Now parts of your crashes may be due to that card. Did you reduce to AGP4 and disable fastwrited. The card is not supposed to like them and it took me a long time of crashing to figure that out. -
Which Flight Sim Should I Get 1st

You shouldn't do a nonstop ride form Sidney to JFK then. I usually do small bits, cause the interesting parts are takeoffs and landings and navigation between VORs. -
Communications Problems

My experience is, that it's glibberish. I've abandoned calling them at all and just make for the runway. Pity, they included it without putting any effort into that feature. -

I've yet to find anyone on the forums, who hadn't problems with Win ME. My advice: Get rid of that system. It was the most unstable, Billie ever made. Give XP a try. With all the freeware programms like XP Antispy, you don't have to fear Billie looking over your shoulder and it's the most stable system I've ever had. -
Which Flight Sim Should I Get 1st

FS 2004 is great. I don't feel the need to blow up everything on every occasion and the perfectly modeled planes are a real challenge to fly. That doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy IL2FB and LoMac. It's just quite another challenge to land a 747 safely. -

Could it be, that you're running Win 98 or even worse Win ME? If so, chances are good, that it won't run. Either make a quick upgrade, wait for the patch or kiss LoMac goodbye for the holydays. If you're already using Win XP I can't imagine what's wrong. -
How Many Of You...

For me it's like: Hey, I'm better off. I can actually run the game without any major problems. Personally I think, that flaming in the official boards is OK. At least there's a chance, that the developers actually see the problems. And there are many. The main problem is, that the distributors publish minimum requirements, which are a laughing stock. This way, they want to attract more buyers, but in the long run, they're pissing those people off, who actually believed in those requirements. -
Before I Smash My Monitor

OK, I've finished the first A10 mission about twelve times, just to discover, that that stupid piece of software wants me to do it once again. That's what I done so far: *Starting the second mission - escaping - quitting the programm = back to mission one *Saving, before starting mission two, quitting = back to mission one *Saving mission two, quitting = back to mission one All the above I have tried in every thinkable order and it's always back to mission one, once I quit the program. Now, do I have to be a software ingeneer to understand the menu of Lock On or is there any way to make the program remember my campaign progress? -
Where can I get this freelook? It's the same with me. Track IR is a little bit on the expensive side.

Well, yes. That seems to have sorted it out. Their forums are just as self explaining as their game interfaces. -

That's exactly what happened to me. If you find any solution to it, let me know, cause off and on they bring topics, which are worth a reply. -
There are some functions, I don't find in any keycard: There are these nice fire extinguishers in front of me flying the A10. How can I actually use them? When I got shot at, I get sometimes the alarm: ECM failure. Does that mean, that the A10 has some kind of Radar distortion. Is it apllied by using the E-key? Are the flares the only defence, the A10 has? Finally, since I'm trying to master the A10 first. Are there any downloadable missions for that plane? Don't want to use the campaign for learning. thx in advance

Lomac Is Sucking....

That's more than right. Took my twelve flights to figure out, how the program can be brought to remember my progress. -
Lomac Is Sucking....
abaris replied to zagnut's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Well, it runs OK on my machine, but I wouldn't it call it finished either. There are some annoying glitches such as no FF-effects with the sidewinder. You can't feel the plane and that's especially bothersome during landings. I never know, if I have actually made the touch down or if I'm still some feet above the ground. Crashed some planes that way. The graphic issues are also tiresome sometimes. Flying with effects set to high it drops down to a very low framerate when engaging ground units. And I consider my machine on the higher end: Athlon XP 3000+, Radeon 9600 Pro and 1024 MB Ram. I understand, that the game is unplayable on some machines and making a game, that only runs smoothly on the highest end is narrowing down the potential of buyers. So I think, they should do something about that also. As an old player of IL2FB I'm a little bit dissapointed about the strictly linear campaign also. The only possibilities are success or failure, which isn't very realistic. -
A Few Newby Questions
abaris replied to abaris's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Well, thanks everyone. Silly questions, of course, but the shipped manual isn't really informative, to use a friendly description. Of course, I do some aggressive maneouvers after attacking a target. Yeah, just one other one, cause it's a pain in the ass: How do I turn off that voice telling me again and again, what failure I have aquired. Once or twice is just enough. -

You mean saving in the dropdown menu after clicking that black striped yellow thingie? Think I tried that too, but can't be sure. Oh Lord, what would I give for that good old apply button of IL2FB, since the manual shipped with the European version is rather an excuse than a help. Anyways, thx for the help.
