My T. FLIGHT HOTAS X won't work
Hellman replied to FUlippo90's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
On my backup T.Flight Hotas there is a toggle on the front of Flight Stick section to switch from PS3 to PC. Have you tried this switch? -
Wow! the Hopi look happy. I still haven't seen digital images come close to these analog ones... timeless. Cheers,

I'm a tad buzzed at the moment and probably shouldn't be posting... but I had withdrawals from CA over the past week!. I lurk and download more than I post but you gents who hang here have always been very helpful and kind and I have never felt uncomfortable here. I'm not sure why ODB decided to do what they chose but I do support their endeavors and its still one of the best single player campaigns ever in a flight sim and I can't wait for the next iteration. I feel more at home here than at the other place and I hope TK decides that participation in his products and modding becomes more important than the never ending quest for the bottom line. He will never find this type of fanfare anywhere else. The portable market is saturated with flight-type-sims and I don't really agree with his business plan (please don't hold this against me)... the "everyone else is doing it" mentality never really works unless your willing to sell your soul to something you're not even sure of. I wish I had a place like CA to promote my wares (maybe one day I will) and I am sooo happy you guys are back. If I need to think about loyalty... I will come to CA first as Its been my flight-sim home for a while now. Perhaps one day the inspiration I find here will someday materialize into something I can give back. Just a drunken positive rant and an appreciation for CA... welcome back.

Looks interesting. Flight mechanics look simplistic in the video. Any Cockpits??? Didn't see any. I kinda like the Anime style.

SF2I GUI Progress
Hellman posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Finally got around to doing some work on the GUI re-design and thought I would post my progress here for some feedback before I move on from the mainscreen (still some tweaking to do) and start work on the other screens. -

Most likely NA when it surfaces and perhaps the others. I trying to build it so it will convert to the other titles with a minimum workload. -

I suppose board games of this nature have been around for a long time. I came across this tidbit from one of my favourite places to visit when I'm in Gatineau, Quebec. Be an Airman My Uncle has a summer home 20 mins. from here! They restore and maintain many WW2 birds and a Hawk One a Canadair Sabre! If you are up in these parts I suggest you check it out. At first I wasn't sure this direction would go over too well within the SFers community (and I'm still not sure, I was hoping for a little more feedback). This is the actually the third direction of this project (the first 2 were more simple variations on the above, mixed with a more traditional "darker" feel to what already exists). After much research and reading about GUI design I was somewhat inspired by NATOPS manuals and 50s to 70's aviation books and drawings. I wanted to update the look so I decided to go all out and make something very different which I'm hoping I can achieve (it's a big project and I am working it so it can be easily transferable for future TK projects like NA. Unfortunately, I never knew these games even exited until you posted the cover art which I really like. They are now a part of my Aviation reference folder which grows daily as I delve further into this endeavour. -

Thanks for the comments. I never knew there were boardgames like those. I guess those existed before flight sims. -

GUI Overhaul
Hellman posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I'm starting work on my first SF2 mod, a GUI overhaul for the Menus in SF2 and had a question about resolutions. The stock menu is based on a resolution of 1024x768. When the res is increased from within SF2 the menu seems to gets stretched and slightly distorted. I was thinking I would work on a menu thats 1680x1050 so when its shrinked for lesser resolutions the distortion wouldn't be to bad. The only problem I foresee is that positioning of menu items might be a problem. So my question is, what resolution should I do this Mod in? 1024 or 1680? -

Hey ezlead, Yes, "Save or Die" is my motto and BACK-UP frequently. Learned those the hard way many moons ago. TK gave me the answer to my query. I can avoid the .STR and work it out from within the .INIs Cheers, -

I would like to change some of the text in the Menu's from Lowercase to Uppercase and can't figure out how to change the .STR files from the expanded MenuText.CAT. I can open the .STR file in a text editor but I am cautious that when I re-save I might have some issues. Any insight would be appreciated Thanks in advance. -
I took my Dad and Nephew to see it last week. I didn't go in with any expectations so I enjoyed it. My Nephew loved it. I made him read a more historically correct account before we went to see it and also gave him the episode from DOGFIGHTS as I wanted him to appreciate it.

Another question.... I noticed that transparency is managed through "alpha channels" in TGA (Targa file format) Is PNG supported? It seems a better choice. -

Its a question of Display Aspect Ratio HD: 1920 × 1080 = 16:9 Widescreen: 1680 × 1050 = 8:5 1920 × 1200 = 16:10 ORIGINAL: 1280 × 768 = 5:3 It's obvious to see why the distortion occurs. None of them will re-size well in relation to the other as they all cover different ratios. Ideally it would be great to do 3 versions but its a daunting task just to do one. As its always better to work big and scale down, I might work it from 1920x1200 as its still an 8:5 ratio which is the same as my native DAR. That way if this project works out it makes other versions easier to do. I just hope that SF2:NA doesn't change the way things work. So it comes down to "Wide Screen" vs. "HD". -

Hello Dave, You do have a point as that's the "Highest" Resolution. However, The max resolution on my monitor is only 1680x1050. I would need a set of menu screenshots in 1920 for reference. I have experimented with resizing and my worry is is that at a base of 1920 players who play at 1024 would have serious "Shrinkage" horizontally. The distortion is pretty bad. I need to find the mid-point me thinks. What is the resolution most players use? would be a good question to poll. -
I think my last post got deleted.... anyways.... I just watched this intriguing Documentary on PBS. A must see for history buffs Program Description During World War II, Hitler's scientists developed terrifying new weapons of mass destruction. Alarmed by rumors of advanced rockets and missiles, Allied intelligence recruited a team of brilliant minds from British universities and Hollywood studios to a country house near London. Here, they secretly pored over millions of air photos shot at great risk over German territory by specially converted, high-flying Spitfires. Peering at the photos through 3D stereoscopes, the team spotted telltale clues that revealed hidden Nazi rocket bases. The photos led to devastating Allied bombing raids that dealt crucial setbacks to the German rocket program and helped ensure the success of the D-Day landings. With 3D graphics that recreate exactly what the photo spies saw, NOVA tells the suspenseful, previously untold story of air photo intelligence that played a vital role in defeating the Nazis. If you are not region restricted you can watch it here. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/military/spies-3d.html

The USofA as they have the broadcast rights. Its a joint Canada/US station but I still can't view it online. I was lucky to catch it on the TV last night. I used to be able to watch NOVA online but i guess this dang SOPA/PIPA business is causing havoc.

They interviewed some of the (PI) Photo Intellegence Readers as well as one of the pilots who flew the extremely dangerous recon missions. Some photos were taken at only 100 ft. It was a most interesting doc. I hope you can find a way to view it. Here's a preview on youtube: Its PBS Nova. Its a non-profit educational station so it might be easier to come across. I caught the show on TV as even in Canada i'm region restricted as well to watch it on the web. If you search google for "Nova 3D Spies of WWII" I'm sure you will come across a way to watch it.
