Good News On The Patch For The English Speaking
GhostDog posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Yesterday evening, January 5th, Wags aka Matt Wagner, the producer of Lockon, posted the his last update on the patch on the official Ubi boards, in which he wrote the following: Here just 12 hours later the thread is allready 14 pages long (!) and you would be hard pressed to find any who disagree: Allmost everyone, regardless of where they are from, posted in support of release of the English patch as soon as possible. And obviously Wags didn't just ask to keep us busy... here is his latest post: Looks like the wait will soon be over for some of us while those with German or French versions will have to wait a week longer -
Lock On Patch 1.01
GhostDog replied to Nesher's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
np... Thunak says its official though it wasn't released through proper channels. I was in doubt of wether to post this as a news item but since it is as Thunak says "out of the bag" there is really no reason not to. I have posted it as a news item along with Thunaks warning and we will update it with a fix for the "cd-detect" bug as soon as we get it ourselves -
After i got my trakIr2 I had some problems that where something alike what you are describing. I'll start from the back with your second question: The black box in the trackIr2 software shows what the camera is seeing. If the dot is near one of the edges when its centered the trackIr might have difficulties following the dot when you move you head out of its cone of vision. Try adjusting where the trackIr unit is pointed so your dot is near to the center. That might also account for your hitting "the wall" please get back to me on wether this helps or not. Otherwise try asking to taking a look at the Naturalpoints forums

Computer Configuration
GhostDog replied to christophe's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Hey Christophe and welcome to Biohaz You should know that Lomac is probably one of the most demanding games around. All sims have a tendency to be harder on the CPU than most other types of games and Lomac is no exception. Besides from that it needs fully DirectX 8.1 compatible AND compliant graphics card to run. I am afraid that a geforce 2 isn't. The smallest fully compatible cards are AFAIK the 4-digit gforce cards: ie GForce4 TI4200. Some ppl have had some succes with using below spec cards, such as gforce3 MX cards, if they turn things such as effects off but its not advisable as the developers clearly states that they will not support them and you probably wont be able to see things such as missile trails even if you get it to work. Very few ppl can run the game in full detail even with the best hardware currently available so try to put together a system a good bit above the recommended minimum. If you only have limited funds i would recommend upgrading you graphics card first. The gforce TI4800se is a good card that can be bought on sale in many places since it has been replaced by the GforceFX series, but its still a good card. Other candidates might be cards such as the Radeon 9600. If you want to know more there is usually allso a lively discussion on upgrades and vid cards on the Ubi boards: UBI boards Lomac general discussion -

Good News On The Patch For The English Speaking
GhostDog replied to GhostDog's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
The reason the thread was started was that Wags wanted to make sure that UBI didn't insult the ones with the German and French version if they released the English patch when it was ready. I am think most people agree that it helps noone to make the english version users wait untill all versions are done. But be prepared: There will definatly be more than one patch. The first patch will focus on bugs only - and only on the most important ones at that. It might even create problems for some that had none before. That is not untypical when released to the userbase which has a much bigger variety of system configurations than any test team will ever be able to take into account. I am happy and reassured to see that both Wags from Ubi and the dev-team are so present on the official boards. To me it signals a strong wish to make this sim a game that will sit on our harddrives for years to come. PS: I'm not a spokesman for Ubi or Eagle Dynamics ;) -
I know its not that bad there all the time but it I still have a hard time keeping my blood pressure down when i see such behaviour. But most guys are trying to be helpfull and there is still much good info to be found there

Question About Trim And Rudders
GhostDog posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I would have thought that left/right trim should trim the rudders but it seems like its trimming the ailerons which controls the banking. Its of no great importance but when i lost one engine over primary in the A10 and had a long way home i could have used a rudder trim instead of an aileron trim. I don't see many reasons for trimming the banking of the plane except if i had a very unbalanced loadout but a trim for the rudders could come in handy at times. Comments or thoughts? ... thanks in advance GhostDog (also posted at the Ubi boards) -

I just quoted the suggested solution for you. No need to read the entire thread unless you guys want one of the saddest examples of what life on the UBI boards is like at times... btw the offending part has been banned

Patch Release?
GhostDog replied to Growler67's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I don't think that Ubi being closed will influence the release date of the patch. It was Wags himself that said in his last update on the 23 that he hoped the patch would be out before new years and he must have know that HQ was closed. In this matter i think he is all the ubi you need to release the patch. If he wants to work work between xmas and new years let him ;) -
Having Sound Problems
GhostDog replied to bobd's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
many has reported that the high-end SB cards are heavy on the cpu. I have 2 cards. One onboard on my Asus p4p800 deluxe mobo which i use for games and an Audiophile M-Audio multichannel card for soundrecording. -
I had wished for a model of an A10 so my girlfriend went to the hobby store and asked for an F/A 18 and came home with an F15 2 seater :D

Having Sound Problems
GhostDog replied to bobd's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
After hearing about people talk about improved framrates after turning hardware acceleration off i gave it a go. The biggest difference i noticed was reduced quality so i turned it back on. (Since i'm not a programmer it still puzzles me why turning something called "acceleration" off would improve performance but i know it isn't allways logical) There has been some a lot has been a lot of talk about how much playing back several soundfiles at the same time affected FPS in lomac and some people took it very seriously and did all sorts of tests on it. Apparently the devs noticed and the following quote is from wags latest patch pre-release notes: ... he only talks about efficiency so its hard to say wether it will sort out the distortion you guys are talking about. -

Skins Visible?
GhostDog replied to Growler67's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series Modding/Skinning Chat
So far they will not be able to see the custom skins unless thay have your skins dl'ed and installed. There has been some speculation of wether it was possible to also use this as a cheat in MP. You could paint all the enemy skins pink or even use the skin of a carrier for the enemy plane. I don't think there is any file chekking done atm when you hook up to a MP session but it could probably be done. I guess it all comes down to: Play with people you trust. -
Communications Problems

They know that we will continue to follow orders no matter what. We will continue to follow the directions of the tower until we run out of fuel and fall out of the sky from precisely 8000 ft.....oh what a devious scheme
