Hmm... and here I thought all the Toronto Maple Leafs fans were local. Pretty cool stuff.

Operation Crimean Thunder
SlickWili replied to PG_Raptor's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
T-Bone, Has anything come to pass with the contact from Stormin? Of course you will only divulge what you can, but with a line like the one I quoted above, it was hard to ingore..... ;) -
V1.02 Update
SlickWili replied to Growler67's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
This list undoubtedly explains why several of the 1.02 betas tested by Carl and the others went back to the drawing board. -
Fates, LOL. It's funny you wrote this because I was just thinking to myself, "hey, I wonder if there's a Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Ghost Recon forum." I have Rogue Spear and Ghost Recon, and most of the Rainbow Six's. Rogue Spear is the game that seemed to capture my interest the most. I think it's because there's a good variety of maps for different styles of gameplay. Ah, I remember the first Rogue Spear LAN party I attended with a bunch of my friends. (Please keep in mind that I was still a Rogue Spear rookie when this incident occurred...) That was a late night (or should I say, early morning.) There was 4 of us on the airplane map executing our first run at a (rather foolish) plan we devised whereby we would split up into 2 teams. One would act as the diversion while the other infiltrated from the rear of the plane. I was on the diversion team and went down in history with this little demolition stunt. Feeling overly confident with door charges and flashbangs, I decided to lob a grenade up the staircase nearest the cockpit. I heaved away and it ricocheted off the top stair. Everyone scrambled and then turned to watch me crumple like a sack of potatoes to the runway, right where the grenade detonated. Eventually, we took those tangos down and moved onto other maps. Needless to say, I am no longer allowed to operate demolitions when we play online now. :D I guess I should change my nickname to TopStair ;) That same LAN party, I remember one of the guys, Tom, was enjoying his very first spin of Rogue Spear with us. Actually, it was his first experience with a tactical sim. Once he calibrated himself with the keyboard and mouse, he did pretty good and really got into the stealth/crouching part of the game. On one of the maps, all of us got eliminated except for Tom. He kept hearing us all curse one by one and got increasingly terrified to continue. We gathered around his terminal and cheered him on as he squawked around every corner and through every door. The pressure for him not to be shot was so immense that several times he asked someone else to step in for him, but we encouraged him to go on. He came extremely close to completion the mission on his own and bagged more kills than all of us combined. I'm getting the Rogue Spear itch again.... may be time to re-install and have another go at it.

I was checking my usual sites for updates this AM and stumbled across a little preview for Soldner: Secret Wars at UnderGroundOnline. They've got nothing but good things to say about it. Click here to read UGO's preview.

I've never had a problem separating OS and programs "logically" (same HD, separate partitions.) I guess it depends on your reasoning for the segregation. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that you may find access times running programs a tad slower if the OS and Programs are physically separated (different HDs.) Simply because the Programs will have to access the dlls and system files for operation through the motherboard and drive cables. Then again, maybe not because then you won't have 1 HD almost at capacity with the OS and the Programs. A friend of mine who is heavy into security has dedicated a separate HD exclusively for his personal data and work. This drive (in the same PC) is not accessible to/from the Internet to increase file integrity. Don't know if you're looking to go that route though or not. If so, let me know and I can speak to my friend further about it.

My New Bumper Sticker...

It is funny! :D I'm going to "Set As Background" and see how long it takes to get noticed. -
My New Bumper Sticker...

If you get caught, you'll lose both rides.... -
Moving sucks. :( Don't do it unless you absolutely have to. We just finished moving from a place we've been for the past 5 years and, man! does the stuff just ever accumulate. At one point I had boxes stacked so high in one room that I couldn't see out the window. Not fun. Of course, all boxes have been distributed to their respective areas now. My back's been aching for over 8 days, but I'm starting to see the forest through the trees.... Won't be moving for a long, long time now. Unless, of course, I land that dream job working for Cisco in California. :D Oh yea, and if you're thinking of living temporarily with your in-laws in between closings, I also recommend against it ;) LOL.

At times, that's precisely what it felt like at the in-laws. But with more noise.

Lockon V1.02 Beta 2 Report
SlickWili posted a topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Below is the latest patch info for LockOn. (Stormin) Carl Norman discusses his experience with v1.02 Beta 2. Some investigative work is also being done in collaboration with Nvidia regarding the GeForce FX5950 Ultra specifically. Reading the thread (linked below) will hash out these woes in detail. Click here to access page 9 of the Ubi thread regarding v1.02. Page 10 has more details on the FX5950 Ultra issues. -
1000 posts is a step in the right direction. Beats being silent.

It reminds me of the days when local dial-up Internet access was free. Wireless has re-created that environment... for now. :D

I put my first hour into some single-player SOCOM II the other night. I wouldn't have even bothered, except for the fact that this was a gift found under the Xmas tree this year and my brother-in-law knows a good game when he sees one. :D My initial impression is that it looks to be a pretty good tactical sim. It is taking a bit to get used to a controller since I am so accustomed to keyboard/mouse play with games like the Rainbow Six series and CounterStrike. My one gripe so far is the AI. They duck and cover after an initial shot is fired (or if your cover is blown) but once they get behind something such as a tree, half wall or boulder, crouching down and shifting about reveals their location and head shots are easily attainable. I'll try bumping up the difficulty level to see if their behavior changes or not.

Woah, there's some news worth looking into! MrMudd, I don't know about everyone else here but I've always thought working for a game software company would be the ultimate career shift. Coding, testing, breaking, coding some more, testing, patching, playing, writing documentation and errata.... cool! I wish you good luck and success with it. Keep us posted! (on what you can divulge, of course ;))

New Site Look! (temp)
SlickWili replied to PG_Raptor's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
For a split second there, I thought I mistakenly typed in a URL to a vendor website or something.... but you're absolutely right Madjeff, the content availability comes first. -
MJ, no dorm room here. Just a good ol' fashioned office dedicated to my PC time. :D Plus the overhead and lamp lighting is always switched off during gameplay, so the glow alongside the blue/green lava lamp would be icing on the cake. Portability is not really required since I only take part in LAN parties once or twice a year. Tigerdirect.ca seems to have the best prices around for my dollar here. They've even got the local PC specialty shops beat! Does anyone have that (blue) glowing keyboard? That looks amazing too. It may be overkill, but would be helpful for finding keys in the dark...

How Long...
SlickWili replied to PG_Raptor's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Throw a couple of actors and actresses in the mix to do voice over and we could give Pixar a run for their money. ;) If done exclusively on tomorrow's technology and with the right camera angles, it will take the general public some time before they realize that what they are watching is computer-generated. I'd buy the DVD. :D -
Operation Southern Cross
SlickWili replied to GhostDog's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series Mission/Campaign Building
LOL. Yes a simultaneous post at the UBI forums and here would've been nice. Just goes to show us all what this game, and a little imagination, can do. The trailer is fantastic. That plus the splashscreens and customized menus really give it the should-be-on-store-shelves feeling. And I'm sure what we've seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg...brilliant work T-Bone, Glowing_AMRAAM and the others involved. I guess we better start donating now to MadJeff's unlimited filehosting/downloads account fund. ;) -
Yeah, when I was surfing for a new tower, the Lanboy and the X-Dreamer both caught my eye. I'm loving the temp guage on the front. The PC upgrade in 2004Q1 will be including one of those beauties. Also, I think it's time to take an AMD to test.

Glad I could help. :) Anytime.

What browser are you using, Dutchy? I've noticed this behavior while viewing the forums with Opera 7.23. Clicking on a a forum topic, a thread, reading all posts in the thread and then clicking the link back to the forum topic page will show the plane as red. Sometimes after reading all new posts, there are red planes. To clear these out, I select the "View New Posts" link at the top-right and then the option to mark all posts as red. A temporary fix at best until we find out what's wrong (cookies?)

LOL! Yep, the credit card bills always seem to be big this time of year. Hmm, let's see. I got Nic Cole's enhanced LockOn manual, the Indiana Jones DVD set, The Two Towers extended edition DVD set & The Bourne Identity, some clothes, a Home Depot gift card and a Cuisinart Coffee System (getting ready for the new home in Feb.) Also some cologne, multi-purpose tools, headphones and a few music CDs. Spoiled and thankful, as usual. :D

Yep. New England's D was hot (even in that weather) and Peyton did not come to play at all. He ramped up his turnover ratio for the year quite nicely, that's for sure. :(

Hmm. I'm seeing the same thing now that PG_Raptor states. It was working when you reset us all, MadJeff, but now it's gone back to what it was doing before. Clicking on the "View New Posts" link shows all the new posts that I already looked at. Marking all forums as read refreshes all plane colors.
