I Don't Know Anymore Which is the Best WWI Sim!
Wodin replied to ThePlainsman's topic in WWI Flight Sim Discussion
OFF for me aswell....I own FE2, RoF Ice and a fair few planes and OFF Phase 3. For every 5 hours I fly on OFF I put in about 1 hour on RoF. RoF planes look superb (OFF terrain and clouds beat RoF's hands down though) but with a very weak single player experience and little immersion it can't compete at the moment for my simming time. I see it as a game in the making and look forward to it's future progression. However we have OFF Phase 4 and I'm sure that will keep OFF franchise on the top for a fair while longer. -
Is there anyway to zoom out the view just a little bit more? I don't have track IR and I find the viewpoint just a little restrictive. Thanks
-
As FE2 and the other Thirdwire version 2 games are similar does that mean a mod for SF2 will work for FE2...obviously I'm thinking of cloud mods and I think there is an HDR mod for SF2.
-
ARe there any new FE2 campaigns around? Is o can I have a link please.
-
Can't see any there for FE2....
-
Excellent.

Any news on this update?

If things can't be improved then Phase 4 would be pointless....the campaign should keep track of aces killed...even if it's just the ones you kill....I'm not interested in wining I just want some consistency whilst playing a campaign...if it's a sim then seeing an ace go down in flames one day then fighting him again three days later seems a little odd. I feel it's an area for improvement.
-
I don't padlock I do use the hit labels...not the plane labels... Well thats a little immersion killer then....hope Phase 4 keeps track...the campaign system is THE reason OFF comes out on top...so I hope they fix this.

Is there anyway to stop your wingmen stealing your kill off you at the last minute! It's happened I dont know how many times, it's getting to the point of swearing at the screen and being very tempted to shoot the steeling blaggards down. 5 minutes of relentless turning and fighting...hitting him loads of times but he is still carrying on...I know just a couple more and he will be down...lining him up...and BAM in shoots the wing man (nearly crashing into me) blazes away and down goes MY victim...all in a flash...must be Captain Flashard...

I've noticed with some Squadrons that the planes listed when enlisting aren't always there or not in the order stated as you scan through the dates ...it's only a few mind....any reason for this? Also I've noticed that there are skins for planes for the wrong year...I've seen some skins for say a Squadron for 1917 and 1918 and yet you only get the plane in 1918. Anyone else noticed this? Thanks

Every time I sit in my virtual SPAD seat, be it either the VII or the XIII, I wonder how anyone can fly them with out TrackIR. I find the view terrible, all cockpit and a massive super thick top wing...you have a gap the size of a letter box to look through. For me lining up shots to the engine\cockpit is to hard as due to the restricted view the enemy disappears then suddenly appears in that little gap and is gone again. I always have a hard time taking out SPADS due to their speed and super turns so I imagine they are great to fly if you could see. It's also just the same in the SPAD XIII with RoF. Anyone else hate the view on the SPAD?
-
I love the SE5a. However have you tried flying it in RoF...hate it...wings drop off and engine gives out over nothing....infact the wings in RoF seem to break off way to often...the Nieuports and the Albs in a steep dive fair enough but not the others...it's starting to put me off RoF big time...some may say it's more realistic I feel that if the planes where that fragile god knows what the death rate for pilots would have been...
-
When feeling lazy I just write in the claim box what Jasta or RFC they were and that they crashed...still get them confirmed on the hardest claim setting....I add more for my own immersion.
-
I hate doing it..but try to do it once a year...though usually it's because of a crash etc that forces the issue.

... for you lovers of a bit of poesy

Love it...great read. -
Well first off I took my Pilot of 56 Sqd up. He had 13 confirmed, 8 rejected, 29 claims and two DFC. He had fifteen hours of flight time. Took him over the lines as a bomber escort. On the way back...boom flak...crash landed, pilot is now a POW...he also in his time had taken on and killed three aces. (this was my first mission of the day) So I decided to take out my Jasta 11, AlbIII early, pilot. He had 8 confirmed with 7 pending....last flight I had killed two aces of RFC 24. So up we go and bump into RFC 24 again...they dive I turn wham engine shot out and in flames didn't have time to blink....pilot dead...(that was my first flight today with him) So I take up my up and coming SE5 viper pilot....flown 6, killed 5 and 3 pending...(two of those aces)....all goes well and we meet up with Jasta 40 I think it was....shot down one ace and was now hitting Hermann Gilly hard when wham enemy bus smashed right into me...dead.... So three flights one after the other and all my favourites dead or captured, all except one..... My Camel pilot with two DFC's and I'm not taking him up today....he has 8 claims waiting to come through and 11 confirmed....not risking it....I have a few new recruits all itching to get up in the clouds... I love this sim....great highs and terrible lows...

Thanks mate, looks superb.

Bad day's above the Western front...

I've had it on hard for the adrenalin...really damn scary...however in RL as you all probably know, they altered altitude all the time when in Archie to mess the fuse timings up on the flak shells..in the sim it makes no difference...I can out fly it sometimes but up or down it follows me closely...thats how I lost my SE5a zoomed down a little and blam...may start to turn it back to normal... -
I'm using Creaghorns Bloom\HDR mod. I love it but it is a little too dark and when I go back to OFF settings it's way to light. So is there any way I can lighten up Creaghorns mod just a touch? Is there a config file I can alter? I don't want to start messing with my monitor settings. Thanks
-
Well I'm not sure if it worked (might be psychosymatic) still I tried to work out the ini file and change a couple of settings...I will email you the ini if you want to try it...you might think there is no difference and it's in my head...but still worth a try...in bad weather I do sometimes have to to shift F12 to revert the mod especially if the planes are against the ground...however it's not that often...I just F12 again once I can see the plane I'm after...

Do Brisfits have inbuilt tank piercing rounds?
Wodin replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It happened because (as happens alot) one of my comrades tries to grab my kill....however this time it was another friendly Squadron. -
Strange behaviour when leaving "Warp"
Wodin replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The planes rear up dangerously if your on escort duty....always does it then... I drop the throttle and make sure I'm pushing the nose down during warp so when I come out I'm ready for it... I dont use trim so it's definately due to escorting...seems like its.trying to slow down for the bombers or something... never had the nose down though... -

^^Thats what happened to my best pilot today... @Dej...well the Alb was shot down but I didn't even see the one who sent poor Georg Von Trapp to heaven....should have put abit of space between me and the diving planes and then turned into them.
