Individual speech packs for different nations
Heck replied to thereg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You do have a problem if you use this one in combination with the expanded wingman calls mod that calls out the leader, who's calling, enemy direction and height, etc. When you use them in combination the game switches back and forth between Thirdwire voices and mod voices all in one radio call. It's too bad, because it is a great sounding speech mod. -
Individual speech packs for different nations
Heck replied to thereg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I'm using Gramp's Russian and the RAF WW2 speech pack in a merged SF2E, SF2I, SF2V, with Expansion Packs 1& 2, patched to Nov 11. I installed the speech packs in my Korean War mod folder and they work like a charm using these instructions. -
"I represent sneakerheads all across America. This is serious." Only if you're a moron. Merry Christmas, America.

Welcome to the Stone Age, Dave. I suppose these laws were etched on a tablet somewhere 2000 years ago, so of course they should still apply. Laws that don't apply justice for all are bad laws, no matter who "commanded" them. No matter how bad things might get in the USA, I'm glad my daughter lives here.

Thanks, Grinseed. Very interesting site. -
Just surviving in a Harry Tate is an adventure. I find myself just kicking the rudder around when Huns are about, just trying to give my gunner a clear shot, cause you're just not going to outmaneuver anyone, that's for sure. I've had some wonderful exercises in hedgehopping home with the bus full of holes. Skim the trenches and land near the balloon line. Call the squadron to send a truck to pick it up.

Actually happened to me once. Flying along happily, not even bothering to dodge the Archie at the height I was at, cause everyone knows they can't hit you. No Huns about. Everything serene. Then, BOOM! Everything in splinters, down you go. It's never happened to me again, but it was quite a shock.

KIA After Landing?!
Heck replied to End1e551's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Own goals do happen, I've tagged wingmen accidentally, and also binged other friendlies. And I've flown into friendly heat seekers as well. Not sure if I've ever been tagged by a friendly radar homing, but I think it could happen, if my radar signature happened to be more reflective than the original target. Anyone know if the AI can make a mistaken lock on, like I've done with those pesky strike aircraft I was supposed to be escorting in my early days? -
VF-172 F2H2 Banshee colors
Heck posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Researching VF-172s only Korean war deployment aboard CVA-9, USS Essex, I've found some confusing information and was wondering if anyone had accurate information on the color of the fin tips and nose caps of this squadron during their Korean War deployment. Two black and white photos captioned as aboard the Essex during VF-172s deployment seem to show them using white fin tips and a small white nose cap, which would seem to conform to the Department of the Navy order of battle for the Korean War which shows them as the second squadron of the air group. But I also found this color photo, also captioned as aboard CVA-9 during the Korean War by some sites, which shows them with Blue tips and nose caps: http://3.bp.blogspot...2H-2+Lineup.jpg Admittedly, I don't know enough about this stuff. Does anyone know which is actually correct for this deployment: Essex (CV 9) with CVG-5 (26 Jun 1951-25 Mar 1952) Squadron Aircraft Tail Code VF-51 F9F-2 S VF-172 F2H-2 R VF-53 F4U-4/B S VF-54 AD-2/4/L/Q S VC-3 Det B F4U-5NL NP VC-11 Det B AD-4W ND VC-35 Det B AD-4NL NR VC-61 Det B F9F-2P PP HU-1 Det HO3S-1 UP Thanks, Heck -
VF-172 F2H2 Banshee colors
Heck replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I think you're exactly right, Wrench. The tail code gives it away. It has to be a replanted squadron, assigned for this cruise. Too cool. 600 purple! Wow! I never even knew there were six hundred series numbers. -
VF-172 F2H2 Banshee colors
Heck replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
That's what I don't understand, Wrench. In the color photograph at the link above, the modex numbers are 200 series, which should be second squadron of the air group, correct? But the tail fin and nose cap are blue, which should be third squadron, right? I thought with 200 series modex, the fin tip and nose cap paint should be white. Ps. Okay. I re-examined one of the black and white photos that I found: http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/h97000/h97270.jpg When I blow this photo up in windows as large as I can make it, I can clearly see a low level contrast line between the paint on the fin tip and the paint on the rest of the fin. It's definitely there. Because the contrast is so low compared to the contrast between the insignia white of the modex and tail code letter, I think the color photo is from this cruise of the Essex. -

Beautiful, Stephan. Thank you. A most unique bus.

Thanks, Stephan. Given how much you've provided, and in such a short time, I think everyone understands your need to take a break and slow it down. Your work is much appreciated.

A video of FM problems w Alb C.III and Lloyd

No problems here. AI take off is normal. It's got to be a modded file somewhere else. I don't think the problem resides in the aircraft data.ini. -
? for our 3d Guys...

Thanks, Russo. I spend more time "in the cockpit" of your Emil than I do any other aircraft I have in my WW2 install. -

I'm not trying to be critical of Russo's beautiful Emil, which I fly all the time, but would it be possible to do a few things with it? 1 Could the slat animation be unlinked from the flap animation, so that they deploy the same as the slats on Wolf's F model, due to air pressure? It would be nice to see the animation on the Emil in tight turns. 2 Could the bottom of the rudder be rounded just a little bit more? 3 Could a rounded cockpit exterior model be created from it, ala the Me109e-3 in its earlier form. As I said, I'm not trying to be critical of your model, Russo. It's one of my favorite planes to fly in SF2 using the ATeam's flight model from WOA. With these three tweaks, we could create E1s, early E3s, and still have beautiful E4s. -

If the part that has no material assigned is not a visible or essential part of the external view, you can use this to eliminate it. Add this as the last component in the aircraft's [AircraftData] section. Component[xxx]=Move1 [Move1] ParentComponentName=(whatever the parent component in the out file is, fuselage, etc.) ModelNodeName=(the name of the offending component from the out file) DestroyedNodeName=(the name of the offending component from the out file) DetachWhenDestroyed=TRUE HasAeroCoefficients=FALSE If you don't have the out file, you can use a hex editor to see what the component is.

Heck replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
No, there's an error for a missing material in the out file. Report it to Capun on his message board using the request for mods/fixes post in the tech support section and he can fix it. He did it for all the spitfires and the Ju88. In the meantime, copy and paste the following into your data.ini at the end of the [AircraftData] section. It's a quick fix that works on my system, and I'm using SF2 in Windows XP. Component[010]=Move1 [Move1] ParentComponentName=Fuselage ModelNodeName=Panel2 DestroyedNodeName=Panel2 DetachWhenDestroyed=TRUE HasAeroCoefficients=FALSE -
Machine gun fire problem...
Heck replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - World War II Forum
Multiple lod models will be nice if we can get them. Until then, I suggest these: 1) Hex edited your lods to accept .dds and convert all your bomber skins to .dds from .bmp. Use Martin Wright's dds converter. http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/programs/dxtbmp.htm I use hexeditor neo. http://www.hhdsoftware.com/free-hex-editor 2) Reduce the gunner fire chance and accuracy by copying and pasting in the appropriate section from the aircraftobject.ini into the bomber's data.ini. I've even gone so far as to create hand held versions of the machine guns which have very low accuracy, because, as history tells us, a frightened man behind a hand machine gun at 15000 feet seldom hit, or shot down, anything. They should be just dangerous enough to make you think about it, but not dangerous enough to hurt you every time. 3) Reduce the gunner's burst amount, again using the data.ini. They tended to snap off short bursts, not spray the water hose. 4) Give all your gunners hit boxes. Some of the bombers lack them, and if they don't have them, they're immortal and shoot at you every time. If they have hit boxes, you can knock them out. -
Destroyed/Crashed models

Couldn't you mod it into a readmemore? Or readmeless?
