  1. Thanks, Dave. Looking forward to it. I'll just keep doodling with the old mod until then. It's going to make one hell of a Christmas present, if it's out by then. Well worth the wait.
  2. New Skins for FE2

The Austrians sound interesting, Quack. But, you know what I'm waiting for. Wish I had the time to learn G-Max. I could at least offer the real modders a headstart model to use. I need to win a lottery, so I can dispense with real life. Well, I can dream, can't I?
  3. I don't think you need a separate pilots folder. I think you can just put the LOD, ini, and bitmaps into the Objects/Aircraft folder. If I'm wrong about the new file structure, someone correct me, please. I think your problem may be the creation of a pilots folder. Try just putting the files into the Objects/Aircraft folder and see if that works.

  5. SE5A gunsite

Glad you were able to get it fixed. I can only imagine how many files TK and his small crew have to check before a release. Glad it's not me.
  6. SE5A gunsite

I think you'll have to contact TK about this one, Panama. I have FE2 patched from the original all the way through to July 2010, and I just rechecked my SE5a (TK's version, not a mod) when I saw this post: mine works fine. If this is an unmodded install that you just downloaded, then it has to be some sort of problem with the new download.
  7. You are an awesome group of folks. I'm not gonna name names, or mention projects. So, as Louie always said, "Round up the usual suspects." Been away from the jet version for a while, so I'm overwhelmed. Waiting patiently for the new Korea mod. It's my favorite period. My thanks to all for your hard work.
  8. Flight Formations

The one thing I always fear is looking back to find they've been replaced by an enemy flight doing the same thing...
  9. Flight Formations

Personally, I think this has to do with the fact that this sim is derived from a jet sim originally. They're not dancing around, they're weaving back and forth to check six, a very common practice. After 1940, fighter pilots were faced with a stark choice: sun glint, or check beneath your tail, because that would be the one who killed you. Most, I think, chose sun glint. The only fighter formation videos I've ever seen were probably taken well away from the combat area, so they don't show this actual combat behavior. I do know, from reading pilot anecdotes that it seemed common by the time of Viet Nam. Remember, in the Battle of Britain movie one of the squadron leaders lectures a new man on never flying straight and level for more than thirty seconds in the combat area. Did they do this in WW1 in the combat area? I don't know, I've never read any pilot anecdotes about it. They had better visibility in WW1 than WW2, but that still didn't guarantee your safety if one came up underneath your tail (reputed to be Ball's favorite method of attack), like the Nieuport 28 balloon strafer whose right wings I clipped off last night after stalking him just beneath the clouds for a few minutes. It probably shouldn't be modelled right after take off, but I'm always leery of "fixing" something like this in the game through ini edits, because the whole sim is interconnected, and I've often wound up breaking something else I consider more important when I do it.
  10. July 2010 patch is out

TK is the best developer I've ever seen, especially considering the budget he runs on. Thirdwire is like a mom and pop store to me. They may not have as many goods as the big chains, but their concern for their customers is light years ahead, and what they do offer is a lot of stuff you can't get from the "big box." It's nice to be able to find a business like this one these days, when I'm usually confronted by "MegaCorp, the business that cares," as long as I remember that to them I'm B274681V, also known as Mr. Mutchull, which is why they couldn't find me in their records...
  11. XP Service pack 3 with the June 2010 version of Directx 9c installed. Like TK, I'm surprised Microsoft is still updating 9c, but they are, probably because so many folks like myself are still using it, because we can't buy a new system. Speaking of that, it's sucky system; 2 Gigs of ram, 2.4Ghz single core, Nvidia 6200 video card, so you'd think it would have a world of problems with Jan Tuma's terrain and this sim, but it doesn't. I have to set a lot of the graphics to medium, etc., but it gives me good frames rates if I use the right settings.
  12. Odd that your Flanders terrain didn't work. Mine worked no problem with the June 2010 patch, with Jan Tuma's update, so I never tried to extract the Verdun cat. Strange stuff.
  13. Get it here, http://combatace.com/files/file/5933-vogesen-terrain-version-10/
  14. From the sounds of your post, I'm not certain you had the Vogesen terrain installed before you installed Jan Tuma's terrain. You need to have that installed first, before you install Jan's over the top of it. If I'm wrong, I apologize for butting in.
  15. I'm on my way in to work and can't find it at the moment, but there are instructions for removing parts from airplanes. I remember a thread once about this being a possible solution for this problem with Capun's planes and their gunners. You just remove his legs. The parts you want to remove are R_Thigh and L_Thigh, because that will remove all the parts attached to it, the leg and the foot. Just don't look down into his cockpit from an outside view, because you'll see he's an amputee. I'd do this before I'd mess with his movement, because that will emasculate him as a gunner. You can do this because the gunner is part of the aircraft model in Capun's aircraft. Hope this helps. Heck
  16. Doesn't this require a texture in the TextureStage[01].TextureName= and TextureStage[02].TextureName= callouts? I always thought it did, but I'm probably wrong.
  17. Just have to wait for payday Friday. Then, I'll pick up the expansion for SF2I. Been wanting it, but putting it off because of car bills. Can't wait to fly the Mustang and Vampire.
  18. You might look at the engine's moment of inertia in comparison to other models that are working in this version of the sim. Try adjusting that closer to an aircraft that does work. Sometimes that's the cause of the problem. Heck
  19. Amusing Mission End

From what I've read of the war, I think you'd be checking to see if each other was okay, and then sharing a nip of brandy while waiting until someone from your squadron, or his, showed up to collect you, depending on which side of the lines you landed behind, once you determined how to contact them. Might make for a long walk together, trying to figure out each other's language.
  20. Love these, Quack. You get so used to seeing Jastas without numbers. Another great addition. Thanks.
  21. I think you may be correct, Bandy. I just did a quick survey of my aircraft folder and found 2 seaters only represented 31% of the aircraft in the folder. No wonder they don't show up. I don't think the game uses a bias to decide this, I think it might just use a raw percentage chance, and at 31% they don't have much chance of showing up. My suggestion is this: with any 2 seat aircraft that was used by more than one nation, like the Sopwith 1a2, make a copy of the folder somewhere else on your computer, then rename it in the ini and data.ini as a new aircraft of that other nationality, such as Sopwith 1a2 Belgian, Sopwith 1a2 USAS, etc., then copy them back into your aircraft folder. You could do the same thing with the Breguet if you have it, and the Salmson 2a2, even the RE8 (I know, they reengined and recowled them, but one example using an RAF engine sits in a Belgian museum, so you have a precedent). Just in these three aircraft, you've added six new types for the game to look at, without any new models being made. Remake your Halberstadt CL4 into a CL2, even though the model is wrong, the idea here is to create as many "new" 2 seaters as possible out of what you already have. I'm sleasy enough in fact to create Halb Cl4, Hannover CL2 and 3s, and DFWs as Bavarian versions, since Bavaria maintained her own army formations within the German army, even had her own General Staff, but that one might be too thin a thread of logic for many, so I apologize in advance. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to give this a try. Kind of busy right now, but I'll let you know what happens after I get done and have some time to fly. Heck
  22. Nice, Quack. This puts an idea in my head. I'm going to create a downrated version of the SE5A to act as an SE5. The model won't be right, different nose, etc., but it'll be fun to take up the lower powered original.
  23. What version of the sim are you running? Have you made any changes, or added a patch? Are the weapons in a Weapons sub folder within your objects folder? If they're in the proper folder, and the proper path, depending on your version of the sim, you might try running the appropriate weapons editor for your version of the sim, FE1, or FE2.
  24. Just a few pics

Unfortunately, the old mission makers don't seem to work with series 2 sims. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that. I used to use LeMissioneur to pick up the coordinates to place things on the map. One thing you might try is this: use the find function in notepad to find the location of watertowerdebris, or whatever it's called to find each callout for that type of debris. That would mark the various destroyed towns along the front. You could then place objects near those, such as the MG's at Geo's site, or his artillery. You can also use the find function to locate the bunkers along the front. That would work too. I like placing AAA machine guns from Capun's site in the destroyed towns, as if they're a battalion hq, which would recieve AAA protection. There's no object placement tool, except for the terrain editor that I know of, and I have no idea how to use that. Sorry.
  25. Decals not showing up.

Not trying to dodge your question, it's just these guys really do explain things better than I do. This article deals with SF2, but the file structure is the same as FE2. Scroll down and you'll find a section on making sure decals show up. http://combatace.com...e-by-migbuster/
