File Name: Petlyakov Pe-8 File Submitter: Veltro2k File Submitted: 23 Jan 2010 File Updated: 25 Mar 2010 File Category: Allied Bombers The Petlyakov Pe-8, originally known as the TB-7, was a Soviet heavy bomber designed before World War II, the sole four-engined bomber the USSR built during the war. Produced only in small numbers, it was used to bomb Berlin in August 1941 as well as other cities in Germany and Finland on so-called "morale raids" to raise the spirit of the Soviet people by exposing enemy vulnerabilities. 9. File Name: Morane-Saulnier M.S.406 File Submitter: Veltro2k File Submitted: 19 Jun 2010 File Category: Allied Fighters The M.S.406 was a French Armée de l'Air fighter aircraft built by Morane-Saulnier starting in 1938. Numerically it was France's most important fighter during the opening stages of World War II but was under-powered, weakly-armed and lacked full armour protection when compared to its contemporaries. Most critically, it was out-performed by the Messerschmitt Bf 109E during the Battle of France. The M.S.406 held its own in the early stages of the war (the so-called Phony War), but when the war restarted in earnest in 1940, 387 were lost in combat or on the ground (for various reasons) for 183 kills in return. The type was more successful in the hands of Finnish and Swiss air forces who developed indigenous models. Using P-39D cockpit: Credit goes to its creator. 12. RGR that "After the British government cancelled the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) TSR.2 low-level strike aircraft in 1965, a "Mirage IV*" was proposed as a replacement for the British Royal Air Force. The Mirage IV* would have been license-built by BAC and was to have featured the avionics suite developed for the TSR.2, as well as a fuselage extension of 61 centimeters (2 feet) and twin Rolls-Royce Spey 25R afterburning turbofans, providing 93.4 kN (9,525 kgp / 21,000 lbf) thrust each.
