  1. Okay, on that screen in the materials editor, in the pull down window that says Map #1, open it up and you should see a selection similar to 'Default_xx'. Select that, and then you'll see the screens I was talking about eariler. FC
  2. It doesn't look like you're using the Materials Editor properly. Either hit 'M' or go to Rendering - Materials Editor. Make sure for the slot you are using, that Blinn is selected as the Shader Basic Parameter. Make sure under the basic Blinn parameters, that the bitmap you wanted is selected with Diffuse. That should be it... FC
  3. Not a big deal...design a pod and there you go. FC
  4. KB, Thanks for the info my friend! FC
  5. Don't give me too much credit...I can still be wrong about a lot of stuff (I don't know what I don't know)... xclusiv8 - Welcome to CA, but please realize that there folks here that have been doing this sort of thing for a LONG time, either virtually or for real, some of them probably longer then you have been alive. FC
  6. Nope, but just for the hell of it, lets run the numbers, shall we? First, lets determine the excess thrust requirement of the Harrier. Listed for the Harrier II is a thrust of 23500 lbs at sea level, but the aircraft is rated for a max VTO weight of 20755 lbs. Which means that percentage-wise, weight cannot exceed 88% of max engine thrust at sea level for a safe VTO. Now, lets look at the thrust ratings for the AV-8A and GR3 - respectively at 19000 lbs and 21500 lbs. We'll be conservative and assume the excess thrust requirement is percentage based and not a straight 2750 pounds. Doing the math, it means the AV-8A has a max VTO weight of 17660 lbs, and the GR3 is 18990 lbs. Okay, now taking the basic weight of the aircraft (fully serviced, but no fuel, pilot, or payload) of 12190 lbs and subtract it out. AV-8A - 5470 lbs / GR3 - 6800 lbs total VTO payload capacity. Next, subtract the max internal fuel capacity - 5060 lbs. AV-8A - 410 lbs / GR3 - 1740 lbs Subtract the pilot (assume with all his gear, he weighs about 150 lbs). AV-8A - 360 lbs / GR3 - 1590 lbs Now, lets put on 2 455 liter fuel tanks, which hold 804 pounds of fuel EACH (total of 1600 pounds). Assuming you don't take the weight of the actual drop tanks, JUST the fuel itself. AV-8A - negative 1240 pounds / GR3 - negative 10 pounds. So now both aircraft, carrying nothing but fuel, have exceeded their safe rated VTO weights. Ever wonder why Harriers normally do STOL takeoffs instead of VTO all the time? FC
  7. Really? Your video proves my point. Show me somewhere in that video where that Harrier is doing a VTO with a significant load. FC

  9. No. These are early model Harriers. I'll bet the video you saw was of later model Harriers, and/or they were doing STOL takeoffs with very short runs. Don't believe me? Take a closer look at the Harriers you see doing VTOs and see which model it is. The AV-8B/GR7/GR9 versions of the Harrier gained 1900 pounds of weight over the eariler AV-8A/GR1/GR3...but gained 4500 pounds additional thrust...almost 2600 pounds difference. FC
  10. Actually folks, none of the solutions mentioned will work. I've figured out the problem...expect a new upload in the next few days. Until then, find the F-5FFRONT_DATA.INI in the F-5F directory, go inside it and look for the [AircraftData] section, and substitute the entire entry there with this: Save the data.ini. That should fix the issue. FC
  11. XB-70 B-70A Thanks to Sundowner for the excellent skins and decals! Will probably be an AI aircraft, though there have been a couple of volunteers for the cockpit... FM still needs some tweaking. FC

  14. U.S. President wins Nobel Prize.......

Okay fellas, I think this thread has run it's course... FC
  15. The knowledge base has detailed information on how to make a SF2 aircraft flyable in SFP1/WOx: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/43234-how-to-make-a-sf2-aircraftweapon-useable-in-gen-1-thirdwire-sims/ When possible, try to look in the knowledge base if you can't find something with a search...sometimes the search engine isn't too smart. FC
  16. One very big @$$ bomb!

Well, it's actually smaller than the MOAB (GBU-43) by about 10 feet, but weighs 5 tons MORE! Also, the MOAB has 18700 pounds of explosive, but this new weapon only has roughly 6000 lbs. This thing must be damn near all steel and lead! A very specific weapon...not much boom, but a whole lot of drillin! Plus, being shorter, allows it to fit in the bay where a AGM-86 cruise missile sits now. FC
  17. SF2E is an upgrade only in the sense that Windows XP is an upgrade from Windows 98. There is no patch that will upgrade WOE to SF2E. FC
  18. Strange aircraft sightings

Could have been this...especially if it was the weekend: FC
  19. A new adventure in my life

Congrats! Say goodbye to any spare time you have...but you'll be happy about it! FC
  20. You NEED to check that's it's using TCB for an animation...you didn't say if you confirmed that it's using TCB. I've seen that cause problems. Also, like bobrock said, disable the shock animation in the data.ini to see if you need to change that value. FC
  21. Also, how does the gear animation look in the air...normal? If the animation looks odd, check to see which animation controller you used...anything other than TCB won't work right. FC
  22. holy moly!

Also, for those who may think this is cool... Realize something...the folks on the road aren't part of this stunt...they're merely your average joes going about their business when an aircraft at their altitude either goes right by, or appears to be coming head on. Think about the average driver's reaction to this if they get surprised, and cause an accident, or God forbid, someone gets hurt. You can't answer the mail if that happens. I have no problem with going low and fast, been there, done that...hell, done it in the middle of the night at 400 feet in the mountains at near sonic speeds. But, it's planned out, I've been trained for it, and most importantly, I don't deliberately endanger others. Or think about this in one other way...do you want this guy to be flying you around? It isn't about ability, it's about good judgment...which this guy was seriously lacking. FC
  23. holy moly!

So, lets count the many different ways this was a dumbass stunt. Lets hope this was the last flight this guy had because he was about to die of a horrible disease. All it takes is ONE person to note the tail number, date and time, and that's it. Let me be clear, the punishment for this incident STARTS at getting your pilot license pulled and it goes rapidly downhill from there. FC
  24. Heh, I wish. Though there is a MAX model of a Bone pit out there. I've played with it. The problem is the same one I faced when I made the T-38 pit which I later scrapped. The issue is one of having first hand knowledge of EXACTLY how the cockpit really works...combine that with an obsessive/compulsive personality and you can see the problem. Sometimes, there is such a thing as having too much knowledge! FC
