Fleet Oiler

Actually Ed, I'd be curious as to how hard was it to import the model from Sketchup into MAX, what was lost and what was kept. FC -

AmokFloo is exactly correct. We don't necessarily need a super detailed readme (though there are some very nice examples on this site). I can understand why folks where English is not a primary language would find it difficult to make one. However, even a simple readme explaining exactly what the person was trying to accomplish would have been helpful. Files like this actually generate MORE problems then they solve...and is especially aggravating when A) the upload text says to read the readme and the readme contains NOTHING useful and B) the files uploaded will actually 'break' a person's install and cause problems and frustrations - especially for someone who may be new to ThirdWire sims. No one here wants to be the mod police. We want folks to upload their mods...but even simple ones that correct the spelling of a town in the GermanyCE terrain have a readme or at least an explanation of what is trying to be accomplished in the mod description. If you are going to take the time to mod something and upload it here, then you have the time to provide at least a basic readme. FC -
Not running out of fuel?
FastCargo replied to i fight by 1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
A) You can definitely run out of fuel...verified it several times. B) You will still get an engine RPM readout on the HUD even if you're out of fuel. C) It still takes a while to run out of fuel. FC -
How simple is "simplified"?
FastCargo replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, if not, you'll find certain 'all in one' mods that are just as polished as a payware release, but add much more atmosphere to the basic sim. FC -

Unapproved. Lobo12, if you cannot be bothered to provide a simple readme explaining exactly what this is supposed to provide the end user, do not bother uploading anything. FC -

WOV: VietnamSEA Tile Repaint v1.0
FastCargo replied to Pappa Goat's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
This tileset was downloaded over 4000 times. Try it and see if you like it. If not, just delete the files, it's pretty much as simple as that. FC -

FastCargo replied to Helmut_AUT's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes, the same thing applies to laser pods...however, the laser pod (and LGBs in general) though they have the magic 'next target' button, take time to line up for a valid drop. In other words, you can't just hit 'next target' and drop immediately. The LGB takes some time to aquire, and the 'basket' has to be valid to get a hit. Yep, there is a separate Thrust Vector control...can be done either by keyboard or a ranged axis on the control of your choice. Both can run on Vista just fine. SF2 just has additional features and has made adding mods easier than ever. Yes, for the most part it's still just as easy. There are a few additional things to do because now any mods are kept completely seperate from the main ThirdWire install. But more or less, it's just as flexible. I'm sure someone here can hook you up pretty quickly. I haven't had the chance to take a shot yet in those aircraft. FC -

In full hard mode, there are limits on the azimuth and elevation of the radar. In addition, radars model limited range, power, and frequency bands. Calculated RCS of the target come into play, and the AI will attempt to defeat shots taken with manuver, expendables, and ECM. Also, search, TWS, STT, Boresight, and ground mapping are all modeled. You cannot adjust the 'bars' or azimuth manually however. Nope, magic target next button. Yes, includes supply lines, resupply, multiple aircraft taskings, etc. However, it will feel a bit more 'sterile' than something like Falcon 4 AF. In addition, mission planning for your flight is relatively limited compared to something like Falcon. Proper S/VTOL, including proper limitations (ie don't try to VTOL with a full load...ain't going to happen). Yes, modern aircraft support CCIP. Not per se. However, there are a few models that do helo flight very well, but if you're expecting Black Shark...ain't going to happen. Both exist. However, TF and 'radar patching' isn't modeled in the sim, but laser pods and LGB delivery are. There are several models of the Tornado available, the Strike Eagle is currently undergoing an upgrade (including a proper cockpit). Yep, nice to easily make backups or have multiple mods with one install and easily transferable (Generation 1 sims I could run off a memory stick). FC -
Weapons Question
FastCargo replied to czarejs's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What Viper said. NF4 is a completely stand alone install and is not designed to work with anything else (weapon packs, missions, etc). FC -
F-100D sluggish performance

I don't understand why this really surprises anyone. The Fresco isn't exactly a barn door. Neither are area ruled, the Hun actually has a lower T/W ratio, and the Fresco is smaller overall. Their designs are roughly similar as well, even down to both using nose intakes. I'm not saying they are similiar (they aren't as anyone who's tried to turn in a Hun knows), but they both come from about the same time period...and they both derive their basic design from a Korean War aircraft. The newer MACs have some of the same equipment as PCs use...for a while in fact, one of the Mac laptops had the fastest NVIDIA video card available in a laptop...gaming or otherwise. Boot Camp is basically running Windows XP on a Mac, it's not emulation, more like having a multiple boot option like a PC. Also, Macs have USB ports, so using a modern joystick isn't a problem. Basically, there isn't a problem with running most modern games on a Mac through XP and Boot Camp. However, it may be more problematic with an emulator...translation isn't always perfect and CPU cycles will be eaten up by the emulation process itself. FC

I have never understood the logic of discussing another sim in a particular sim's forum. We encountered the same thing (including a few flame wars) in the First Eagles forum when OFF started arriving on the scene. It's just plain rude. We have a general WWI section for such discussions...in fact, that's why such a section was created. If someday, critical mass is reached on a particular sim to the point of creating a seperate section, then we can do that. But not yet. We are happy you guys are here, and welcome civil comparisions about each sims' strengths and weaknesses...but keep it in the appropriate section. FC

Well, the big thing is that we have the 500 and 2000 pound class JDAMs (GBU something or other), but we don't have the 1000 pound class JDAMs...which is kind of a big gap because the F-22, F-35, and F-15SE all have bays specifically designed to be able to carry such weapons internally. The JDAM series all look about the same (coloration, general shape, etc), just different sizes. What you're probably thinking of is one of the 2000 pound class JDAMs which looks just like what you see in the screenshot....but bigger. FC -
