  1. Actually, talking with TK, the RCS is modeled by taking the aggregate size of the 'hitboxes' defined in the data.ini for the particular aircraft. Then, any radars looking for it, the signal strength defines how far the radar can see it. So, most non-stealth aircraft, the range at which you pick it up on radar is directly related to it's physical size (which makes it easier in that you don't need an RCS modifier for EVERY aircraft). For stealth aircraft, the BaseRCSModifier is basically a multiplier used to lower or raise the RCS in the game. Using the modifier allows you to tweak certain aircraft (F-18E/F as an example) to lower their RCS, or in the case of the F-117, F-22, F-35, to lower them a lot relative to their physical size. Be advised, this only works like this for games patched to Oct 08 or later. FC
  2. I wonder if it fixes a few bugs I noticed in the previous SF2 editor. FC
  3. This is A Good Read

I heard about this story yesterday. I'm buying this movie even if I never watch it. Thanks Pixar! FC
  4. Well, it could still be a weakness of the code of course. hardy was right in that some CM will 'blind' the sensor instead of outright decoying it. FC
  5. Not necessarily. Older and less reliable IRMs were 'hittiles', requiring contact with the target to detonate. Newer missiles have proximity sensors to detonate when they detect they are close enough to the target. However, a flare probably doesn't have enough mass to set off the prox sensor...which means the missile flies right by the flare without ever detonating. In addition, depending on when the missile gets decoyed, it may not have enough authority to complete the revised intercept due to the flare, causing it to go stupid when the flare passes out of it's FOV. FC
  6. Silly question...are you sure the particular model you are using HAS inner faces on the pillars? FC
  7. Addon and stock AI aircraft do use chaff, ECM, flares, and even beaming. FC
  8. I have Vista 32 and MAX 9 works just fine. But I'd take MBs advice and wait til Win7. Everything I've seen in my testing so far shows it to be a better OS. The only reason I run Vista is that it works better on my laptop than XP (driver support is better) and it came with the laptop (vs Win7 which I would have to purchase). FC
  9. AA3 is out today

Cool...on Steam eh? May have to do a reattack... FC
  10. Then you are being foolish. There are 2 supreme rules in modding in the TW series: 1) Backup your original. 2) Test one mod at a time. If you test more than one mod at a time, sooner or later you will screw something up and try to fix it doing the wrong thing. FC
  11. Mavericks are your best friend when it comes to AAA (and SAMs for that matter). FC
  12. Today in 1965 (June 18th)

9th Bomb Squadron leadin' the way... FC
  13. The Official Chuck Norris CA Thread

Excerpts from USAF CNTTP 3-69 (Chuck Norris Tactics, Techniques and Procedures) UNCLASSIFIED 1. Chuck Norris executes a banzai gameplan regardless of awareness and AMR. Short-skate tactics are for the weak. 2. Chuck Norris is always in the "advantageous element." 3. Chuck's commit criteria is JFS Start. Mr. Norris doesn't need avionics or a weapons system to be lethal. 4. Chuck Norris once had a WG call a KIO for a PTO shaft failure. Chuck said he was "rejoining chase" and subsequently gunned the guy for being "worthless and weak". 4. If Chuck Norris is conscious he's inside your turn circle. 5. Chuck Norris does not jink. Under any circumstance. Period. 6. Chuck Norris once had a wingman go blind. That man hasn't been heard from since. 7. Chuck Norris doesn't do SEAD. The word suppress is not in his vocabulary. 8. If you fly with Chuck Norris, do yourself a favor and don't brief a shot doctrine. As a matter of fact, don't brief any contracts, except killing. On second thought, don't brief that either. It's assumed. 9. Chuck Norris' right eye has 4 times the acuity of a Sniper Pod. 10. Need a EA plan? Try having Chuck Norris hum the 2nd verse of Metallica's "Enter Sandman." 11. Threat criteria...not with Chuck! 12. Don't use the term "Ten Chucks" during the adversary coord brief when Mr. Norris is around. He just doesn't like it. Use something else to describe the AA-10C. 13. Chuck Norris guides all LGBs with a standard Life Support issue fingerlight. It's still unclear how he does it but he uses continuous lase as a general rule. 14. Chuck Norris refuses to do any GP delivery except a 90 degree dive bomb, thus negating the need for CWDS. This attack should normally be flown as a direct pop. 15. The F-pole of a Chuck Norris employed AMRAAM may vary by up to 6nm based on Chuck's mood. Just something to consider when you "build your numbers." 16. Chuck Norris maintains the Link-16 network using an abacus, a 30-minute hourglass, and 8 two-way CB radios. That's all you need to know. 17. Chuck's ownship is position is always bullseye. In fact, BRA calls are made off of Mr. Norris. 18. Chuck Norris was once told to ********* by OCA escort when he was a striker. Chuck killed the entire blue OCA escort 4-ship, then banzai'd into 6 Red Air groups inside FR. Since this took a few minutes, AWACS subsequently asked if he needed a TOT extension. Chuck kamikaze rammed the E-3 and proclaimed "Chuck Norris on guard, picture clean." 19. Chuck's MESL: 20. Chuck Norris dug Groom Lake by hand at the conclusion of the Vietnam War. 21. Chuck Norris' controlled ejection altitude is -6 feet AGL. 22. Chuck Norris has never in his life been denied GPS acquisition. 23. Ronnie did not leave the Tomahawks for a better "job opportunity." He was killed by Chuck when he entered the wrong takeoff in the scheduling computer for a Chuck Norris 4-ship. 24. Chuck Norris noise abatment procedures: 2 strafe passes with 20mm on anyone calling in a noise complaint from the base golf course when he flies. DC
  14. Daves

I got myself a REALLY nice tan... DC
  15. What, he just doesn't want a pound for air to ground...like the Eagle was at one time. DC
  16. The AT-6B is for the SF2 series only. As it says. FC
  17. I was thinking the same thing...the video card might be the culprit. FC
  18. Personally, I think it should all be done with the HARD flight model...otherwise, you'll start learning bad habits that you'll have to unlearn. FC
  19. I think you should make it the 560th FTS instead.... Eric, I was thinking the same thing. I know that STORM and dwcace and myself were planning on a set of training missions using the T-6, T-38 and AT-38. FC
  20. Well, under the old system, I put very specific restrictions on each rack (weight, diameter, load limit) then the trick was to put them in a specific order in the weapondata.ini. Basically, I'd list the smaller, more restrictive racks first, then listed them down in order. Worked great in that the sim would only load the rack the weapon would fit in first (ie you couldn't get Sidewinders on a Stinger rack, but Stingers would fit on a Stinger rack because that's the order the rack would show up in...and Sidewinders would go on a LAU-105. This maybe one of those odd situations where you still need a weapondata.ini file to keep the racks sorted. FC
