  1. Commander31, I am resisting biting your head off only because I've just finished eating. These mods are done by folks in their spare time. If they constantly had to update each and everyone of their mods (especially for some who are prolific in their mods) and reuploaded them, they wouldn't have time for anything else. You get these mods for free, and it is not up to the original creators to update them as the game engine gets patched and advanced. If they do it, that's great and we appreciate it. But they are under no obligation to do so...and don't assume you have ANY right to demand it. You are being rude. Wrench, The has given you the tools to fix it yourself. Learn by doing. FastCargo
  2. Yep, that's it exactly. The engine seems to like it that way. FastCargo
  3. There were in fact several MAX files...one for each version of the F-111. However, most of them had the same 'core' group of meshes, with only specific things added or deleted. The current plan is this will be F-111 version 1.2. It is NOT a full up rebuild of the mesh, but more of a repair. It is planned that there will be one unified MAX file, only having to hide and unhide particular meshes in order to get the version of the aircraft you want. It also means all mapping will be very similar. The one version not to be included (so far) is the F-111B. Things changed include: Almost all 'holes' in the meshes have been closed up...including filled in polygons, welded vertices, sealed edges. Mapping completely redone to a more logical layout (will require higher resolution bitmaps though for max effectiveness). External model of the cockpit closed up (no more seeing through walls). Canopy frame now 3-d (includes opening canopy animation). Gear wheels/tyres smoothed out and better shaped. Speedbrake/main gear doors, bombbay and nose gear doors redone with no gaps. Wings partially rebuilt...no more 'floating' spoilers or gaps in the slats. Wingtip shapes more representative of the real aircraft (include wingtip position lights). Fuselage mesh now 'symmetrical' in shape (sliced mesh in half and mirrored, then resealed). Intakes completely rebuilt...'tunnel' is longer, smoother, engine 'bullet nose' is 3D, and experimental 'spinning blades seen behind stator vanes' animation added. Intakes will now have 'splitter vanes' depending on which model had them. Several significant limitations will remain however, but may be worked on in future iterations. FastCargo
  4. My KLu adventure

Congrats! I met a few of your brethen at the Dayton Air Show in July going through F-16 conversion training at Springfield. Good luck at Sheppard and PM me if you have any questions on the T-38C. FastCargo
  5. Shock animation can be done in 10 frames, and is done one way only (from uncompressed to compressed). Now, there is a parameter in the ini which allows for compression during gear retraction if you are having a problem during gear cycling. My typical technique for gear has been 1-10 for gear cycle, 11-20 for nose shock, then 21-30 for main shock (usually both, but you can break this out if you have spare animations...ie 21-30 for left shock, 31-40 for right shock). 6. You ain't going to find too many people to help you at 4-6AM in the western hemisphere. FastCargo
  7. Sounds like mostly core file changes. The best idea (like is ALWAYS recommended) is patching a clean install. What might be even better is note the changes in dates of files between a Sep 08 patched install and a Oct 08 patched install. Transfer over the newer files...and if none of them are ini or cat files, more than likely no objects have been changed. FastCargo
  8. Cool! It's great to see how some of the how some the code in FE has been helpful in the other TW sims. Hey, I like the clouds in the mountains...gives a nice 'fog' effect... FastCargo
  9. This is outstanding!

That car WAS worth more than my house... Dumbass! FastCargo
  10. Start right here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=168 Go from that location...but you should start there to learn the basics of how the sim works and is organized. Otherwise, I guarantee you will screw something up. FastCargo
  11. Well, different seasons for terrains already exist in the First Eagles sim. They basically require different terrain tiles in subfolders within each terrain folder. There are parameters within the terrain.ini file that determine when each tileset 'shows up'. Certain parts of the code from FE has made it into the WOV/WOE/WOI Sep 08 versions...so to check you've have to setup one of the sims with the proper parameters to see if it works. Actually, the America NorthWest terrain has different tiles for summer and winter, so it could be checked. Also, as part of the terrain setup in FE, you can change the probabilites for different kinds of weather for the different seasons (ie it's more likely to get inclement weather in winter vs summer). So to answer your question...it's a definite 'maybe'...but it could be checked. It would be neat to see if it works...but every terrain would need new tiles for each season...which isn't easy to do. As far as aircraft limitations, I've noticed in the data.ini file, there is a specification for if a aircraft is DAY_OR_NIGHT or DAY_ONLY for the AircraftCapabililty parameter. I'd imagine any campaigns look at that and schedule you accordingly. That can also be easily checked...take a DAY_ONLY aircraft in campaign and see if you fly at night at all. FastCargo
  12. RF-8

Nope...none at all. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) FastCargo
  13. Because it's inclusion isn't guaranteed...with RL and all... FastCargo

  15. Quote the Raven...NEVERMORE! Thread from the dead... The more we examined the model, the less happy we were with the current state of the F-111 (and by extention, the EF-111). After some convincing by Dave, I began to do some tweaks to the MAX file...and the more I tweaked, the more I found to fix. What you see is the result. Though it will never be as good as a full up completely rebuilt model, what you see here is the result of a lot of repair, and a total remapping of the model. If you're not sure...compare this model (which has a 5 minute slap together paint job) with the excellent Sundowner painted previous model. Though Sundowner's work can cover a lot...it can't fix some of the stuff that existed if you look closely. Several things have been fixed, mitigated, or rebuilt from scratch. I think you'll be happy with the results. It's now off to the paint shop... FastCargo

  17. I got your laser beam right here... FastCargo
  18. I'd recommend really waiting until the new addon for WOI comes out...prop jobs (P-51) will be coming straight from TK. If nothing else, that should start as a basis for FMs for similar aircraft (yea, yea, I know there are a lot of differences between aircraft, but you at least need a stable baseline). FastCargo
  19. The Wrench never sleeps! He is the all seeing oracle with the answers... Okay, I'm a little punchy at 4AM... FastCargo
  20. Arming the balloons

Yep, actually what applies to air objects applies to ground objects as well. You need to follow the heirachy rules of: [GroundObjectData] ---> [Component] ----> SystemName[xxx] You did the right thing naming the Components (Body and Basket), but under those entries, you didn't put any SystemNames...including your guns. But you put the SystemNames under the [Gun] entry...but you didn't declare [Gun] as a Component. So, just do some slight tweaking and you'll get it up and running. FastCargo

  22. Veltro, Use your best judgement...in the end, you're the one making this thing, not everyone else. Feel free to tell everyone to go pound sand if they start bugging you. FastCargo
  23. Investments...pilot style...

Hey guys, a friend of mine did some calculations and came up with this gem...names hidden to protect the guilty. A laugh during these times... And a warning...don't even THINK about making this political... FastCargo
  24. STR Files

I asked the question over at the TW forums some time ago and was told that STR files are just string files. You can easily open them up in Notepad. The only thing I noticed unusual is some strange characters at the front of the file...otherwise, it's plain text. FastCargo
  25. Gwar, I hate to say this, but TK's sims are actually very light on the requirements compared to modern games/sims. My computer is 3+ years old now and runs the stock sim in 1920x1200 with all the bells and whistles (except for a few things in 'unlimited') buttery smooth. It's when you start adding stuff that you can get bogged down (CA_Stary's awesome Green Hell 2 for example will KILL your frame rates on the full up version). FastCargo
