***************************** Version 1.1 Notes **************************** BLU-82 has been deleted. Improved texture and animation for GBU-43 (MOAB). Readme changed. **************************************************************************** Thanks to the following folks: TK - For the ThirdWire series of sims. Bunyap and Wpnssgt - For the original Weapons Pack. Mustang - For the great video tutorials. To my fellow Combatace moderators - For helping me beta test and work out bugs. Any errors or mistakes are entirely mine. What you will need first: Bunyap's Weapon's Pack - http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=2672 Thirdwire Weapons Editor - http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_tools.htm Copy of SFP1/WOE/WOV patched to the latest standard (as of 22 Oct 07) Notes and limitations: The MOAB (GBU-43/B) is a very LARGE weapon. More than likely, it will not fit (without serious visual clipping issues) inside of any bomber. In reality it are dropped from cargo aircraft, specifically the C-130. You will have to adjust the weapon station inside the cargo aircraft you want to drop from to 'fit' the weapon. Look specifically at the following limitations: LoadLimit= DiameterLimit= LengthLimit= AllowedWeaponClass=EOGB AttachmentType=USAF These limits MUST exceed the dimensions of the weapon you want to load...otherwise, it won't show up! The dimensions are spelled out very clearly in each weapon's weapondata.ini entry. Also, if you have a problem with a weapon showing up, make sure you are within the years the weapon was used, and that your carrying aircraft is USAF...because I made these weapons non-exportable. Now, if you want to use it in another nation's aircraft, just change the Exported=FALSE (in the weapondata.ini) to Exported=TRUE. The other option is to change the aircraft's data.ini entry to NationName=USAF...like I did with Dels excellent Aussie C-130J. Since weapons are 'hung' in the TW engine, coordinate systems to mount the weapons in the bay should not be based on where the 'floor' of the bay is...rather the floor plus the height (thickness) of the weapon is where it is mounted. I've provided my WeaponsStation for the MOAB as an example using Dels C-130J: [MOABStation] SystemType=WEAPON_STATION StationID=1 StationGroupID=1 StationType=INTERNAL AttachmentPosition=0.05,-2.1,0.4 AttachmentAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 EjectVelocity=0.0,-35.0,1.5 LoadLimit=9600 LengthLimit=9.2 AllowedWeaponClass=EOGB AttachmentType=USAF BombBayAnimationID=3 BombBayOpenTime=5.0 BombBayCloseTime=5.0 Both weapons 'slide' out of the back using an extraction parachute. You should use the EjectVelocity numbers...they help prevent the weapon 'dropping' through the floor. You WILL have to fiddle with your weapon stations quite a bit to make it look right when it sits in the cargo bay. I can't help you with that...but the knowledge base at Combatace and the PDF file with the latest WeaponsPack will help out a lot. UCAV EDI (Stealth)??!!
FastCargo replied to zero1986's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Okay, I feel better. I flew today, found out I'm probably in the airshow practice this Friday, people seem to like the hours patch concept I came up with in the squadron...and I picked up HL2:The Orange Box for the PC for 28.95 at the BX today! Woohoo! Now I just have to find room on the hard drive... Anyway, I was a little annoyed when I first posted...I probably was more brusque than normal. Folks, it's okay to ask for stuff...it's the WAY you ask that counts. First, don't ask about something if you haven't done a search first...that's 95% of annoyances. Second, if you do ask, be polite...and don't beg or try to give some sort of compelling reason why your aircraft should be made. Frankly, most reasons given fall into the 'I don't give a rats ass' variety and will quickly be round filed. Third, if a modder wants to give status reports, he will. This is a fairly small community...news about releases tends to spread quickly. Poking and prodding about your wants and needs will not make it any faster...and will probably just piss him off. Now, if he asks for inputs (like I did with a weapons thread) then feel free...but you damn well better be nice and constructive about it. Finally, modders aren't looking for people to kiss their ass...that would be uncomfortable. Most of the time, just simple respect and a 'thanks a lot' will do. Also, most are willing to help you with issues you have with what they put out there, but please, follow the readmes first, again, most problems are solved right there. 99% of you guys know this, and respect it and modders appreciate it. For those that whine and beg...you have to realize just how much TIME goes into these creations. Hell, I'm only doing weapons right now and I've spent HOURS on most of them. I'm scared to even attempt an aircraft...which makes flippant 'simple as that' statements extremely galling. I really am a nice guy...just caught me on a bad morning is all. Expect more weapons in the future... FastCargo -
UCAV EDI (Stealth)??!!
FastCargo replied to zero1986's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Sorry, I'm a little grumpy. Had to stand in formation for a change of command...lovely first thing to do for my reserve week. My back gets more sore doing that than pulling Gs in a T-38... Plus I stayed up late last night finishing up the GBU-43 and BSU-82...so it chaps my ass seeing folks going 'I want, I want, I want...'. Okay, going to go fly now...hopefully I'll feel better later. UCAV EDI (Stealth)??!!

And shall I get a latte for you too? Folks, stop with the want, want, want. Unless you're paying for it, modders make stuff based on their own motivations...and you wanting this, that, and the other ain't going to make it get here any faster. In fact, if I was a modder, I'd make something like that, show you some screenshots, then not release it just because you asked like a 4 year old. Shut up, and wait, and be happy with what you get for FREE. Or, better yet, pony up the money, buy the program you need, and learn to do it yourself. Sheesh. FastCargo -

Too much for the job? Fixed the guidance problem. Final ini tweaks, and she'll be ready...along with this bonus: For you Vietnam era droppers...not accurate like the MOAB, but can be fun! FastCargo -
F-14 Tomcat vs the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Thread
FastCargo replied to Dave's topic in Military and General Aviation
Give that man a cigar! If anyone thinks an aircraft the size of an F-22 can be made radar invisible at less than a 1/4 mile...you REALLY need to hit the books on radar theory, especially when dealing with high power radar, because you ain't got the whole picture. And Typhoids explanation was dead on the money. As much as we sometimes complain about the application of 'jointness', it really has paid dividends in the real world. B-1s right now are the darlings of commanders on the ground in the sandbox...the ultimate in close air support. Why? Because it follows one of the basics of warfare...getting there 'fastest with the mostest'. What Bones have been doing is going into orbit over the battlefied with a buttload of JDAMs, and staying on station for HOURS. Someone calls, they 'sweep and smoke', haul ass over to where they're needed, drop as much or as little as the on scene commander needs, then go back to holding to wait for the next call. All without needing to hit a tanker. Think of it...a BOMBER doing close air support for Marine FACs...such a thing was considered too unwieldy even 15 years ago. As much as we would love our preferred service to be able to do it all, it really doesn't make fiscal sense anymore. FastCargo -
How do you add Hellfire / Brimstone missiles to the AH-1W Cobra helicopter
FastCargo replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That last picture is Brimstone 3-pack rails...NOT M-299Ls. They are not meant to carry Hellfires. They shouldn't even be an option because they are RAF only. FastCargo -

I am a Yankee Air Pirate. With the D.T.s and the bloodshot eyeballs. My nerves are all rundown from bombing downtown, from SAM breaks and bad bandit calls. A Yankee Air Pirate, a Yankee Air Pirate, A Yankee Air Pirate am I. A Yankee Air Pirate, a Yankee Air Pirate, If I don't get my hundred, I'll die. I've carried iron bombs on the outboards, Flown high CAP for F one oh thuds. I've sniveled a counter, or two, once or twice, and sweated my own rich red blood. A Yankee Air Pirate, a Yankee Air Pirate, A Yankee Air Pirate am I. A Yankee Air Pirate, a Yankee Air Pirate, If I don't get my hundred, I'll die. I've been downtown to both bridges, from Tai Dai, Po Kep and Pho Yen. And if you ask me, then I'm sure you can see there ain't no place up there I ain't been. A Yankee Air Pirate, a Yankee Air Pirate, A Yankee Air Pirate am I. A Yankee Air Pirate, a Yankee Air Pirate, If I don't get my hundred, I'll die. ---------------------------------------------- I'm a Thud Driver, I love my plane. It is my body. I am it's brain. My Thunderchief loves me. And I love her too. But I get the creeps, with only one seat, and one engine too. She's faster than lightening, it says on her dials. To get a Thud airborne, takes only two miles. She's packed with transistors, black boxes, diodes. But stay alert, because you might get hurt, when she explodes. She totes more bombs, than a B seventeen. My F one oh five, has a gun and she's mean. If I get my hundred, and I'm still alive, I'll have no grief, goodbye Thunderchief, my F one oh five. -------------------------------------- Oh lord, I've got tales that I can tell, Oh lord, what it's like down in hell, Oh lord, I've got tales that I can tell, I've got tales that I can tell oh lord. I know, what it's like to sit and wait, I know, misery of unknown fate, Don't know, whether I'll come back today, I've got tales that I can tell oh lord. I've seen lonliness, and fear and pain, I've seen, brave and daring deeds insane, I've seen, blood flow but not in vain, I've got tales that I can tell oh lord. I've felt, pity deep within my heart, I've seen, mother's sons blown apart, I've seen, Satan's wicked firey darts, I've got tales that I can tell oh lord. I've felt, fire and thunder in the sky, I've known, men who weren't afraid to die, I've seen, men take eagle's wings and fly. I've got tales that I can tell oh lord. Oh lord, I've got tales that I can tell, Oh lord, what it's like down in hell, Oh lord, I've got tales that I can tell, I've got tales that I can tell oh lord. ---------------------------------------------------- Lyrics by Dick Jonas, former Vietnam F-4 fighter pilot, of his album FSH Vol 1.

Is there a B-1b bomber WIP?
FastCargo replied to Kulbit80's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
There's just been some confusion is all. Various factors contributed to it. No more speculation is necessary or desired. This thread is wandering way off topic. There are 2 B-1 projects that we know of. One belongs to Marcelo and is governed by his schedule, desire, and status of recovery from his hardware issues. The other is from mikewhl, who no one has heard from in a long while, so it's status is unknown. That was the question, and it has now been answered. Any other posts that attempt to 'stir the pot' - intentional or not - will be evaluated on a case by case basis. And if the post is determined to be malicious in nature, the poster will find himself taking a vacation of indeterminate length from Combatace. FastCargo -
How do you add Hellfire / Brimstone missiles to the AH-1W Cobra helicopter
FastCargo replied to SkyStrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As I suspected. Those are not the racks and missiles that I built. Did you confirm that my models are in your Objects/Weapons directory? Did you follow the readme explicitly? Did you add the weapons properly to the weaponsdata.ini as per the readme AND run the weapons editor as per the knowledge base? Did you adjust your loadout.ini in your AH-1W directory as listed in this thread? FastCargo -
WIP F-117
FastCargo replied to vrkuboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I was thinking about doing something like that myself...now that newer computers can do much higher detail LODs. Plus it would be nice to have models that don't need skins based on work that's no longer free to modify. FastCargo -
Peter, Thanks for the info! Sounds like a lot of the 'under the hood' stuff has been improved. FastCargo

Jamming devices and squadmates
FastCargo replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If jammers were always effective, you'd never need to carry expendables. There is no such thing as a 100% effective jammer (unless you count destroying the SAM missile complex). And how big was your squad? 4, 8, 12, 16? Heck, 2 out of 16 in a Linebacker campaign? I'd say you're doing pretty good! Others here may have better options for ya though. FastCargo -
Not just a town in Utah....
FastCargo replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Actually, the parachute is only a visual effect. It's not a retarded weapon in terms of flight profile...just in terms of actually hitting the target. FastCargo -
Your question is not clear. Do you want to modify another plane to make a J-10 (I'm not smart on Chinese aircraft)? Do you want to build an entirely new model? Do you just want to tweak certain parts? Or just a new paint job? Be specific...otherwise, we can't help you. FastCargo

AGM-142 for SFP1/WOV/WOE (Version 1.1)
FastCargo replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Hey, forget everything I just said. Got a MUCH simpler way for you to make your Popeye's available. Go into the Weapondata.ini file and look for both entries for the AGM-142 missiles. Look for this line: Exported=FALSE Change it to: Exported=TRUE Save the Weapondata.ini, go into the Weapon Editor and do the standard dance. That's it, you should be able to load 'em up! Just checked it with my F-111C, worked like a champ. FastCargo -
Demon AIM-7 problem
FastCargo replied to bucklehead101's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Same way you do with any other aircraft. Be in search mode, then when you get a blip, put the cursor on him. Then lock him up and wait til you get the 'lockon' circle. Then fire...and pray. I just did it right now to make sure it can be done. The Demon does not have a 'boresight' or 'air combat' mode for it's air to air radar...every lock has to be done manually. Check page 3 in the WOE manual or page 6 in the WOV manual. Usually, the default keys are Home/Shift+Home for radar target cycling and Insert for Lock On Selected Target. FastCargo -
Not just a town in Utah....
FastCargo replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Coming along: This has been one of the hardest models yet to get to animate properly, while looking correct doing it (solved the 'chute issue though...woohoo!). All that's left is skinning...and trying to make it smarter! For some strange reason, the MOAB is coming out dumb as toast, even though I patterned its ini entry after many a JDAM. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the carrier aircraft, ejection sequence, or something is missing in the weapon entry. Also, to let you guys know, I'm not an effects, guy, so right now, the weapon only uses the VeryLargeBombEffect visual effect. It's got the proper amount of explosive force...you just won't see a nuclear style cloud. Now, if someone wants to do an UltraLargeBombEffect....be my guest! More work ahead... FastCargo
