  1. Actually, I just had to deal with this while making the RS-70B....these 3 lines: Are not used anymore for internal EO systems. It is now just one line: Yaw,pitch, roll in that order...use -90 and that should work. FC
  2. Bad day...

JM, I think you're close. Here is my latest theory: Because the upper picture shows what appears to be the tow bar getting attached, I think the tow bar was connected after the collision (the wisdom of doing such a thing is for another discussion). I think the aircraft were parked next to each other, and the lower aircraft was parked in parallel on the right side of the upper aircraft. The lower aircraft was doing an engine run...not necessarily a full power run, but maybe just some testing at lower than full power. The reason I think the engine(s) was running is that you notice the lower aircraft does not have any intake covers, but the upper aircraft does. The aircraft had a person at the controls, and either he was standing on the brakes, or the wheels may have been chocked. At some point, the right main wheel brake fails and either there was no chock, or the chock was not enough to prevent the aircraft from pivoting around the left wheel and rolling underneath the upper aircraft. The reason I think this is because when we line up for formation, we stagger line up and give ourselves 25 feet wingtip spacing. The idea is when the flight runs up their engines before brake release, if anyone has a sudden rod end failure, the aircraft will pivot around the wheel with the good brake, but will miss the aircraft next to it due to the minimum wingtip spacing and stagger. If you don't have either, this is what the accident would look like. FC
  3. Bad day...

Actually, I'm wondering if it was a ground crew accident. The reason I ask is that obviously, the aircraft underneath ran into the aircraft up top that was parked (the upper aircraft had it's ground ladders in place). Also, the lower aircraft has a tow bar connected to the nose gear. Looking at the situation, no way I would want to connect that tow bar to try to slide the aircraft...you don't know how stable the upper aircraft is and could fall on your head. In fact, if you tried to start moving the lower aircraft first, the upper aircraft would probably slide right onto your tow vehicle. So, from that logic, the tow bar was connected before the accident occured. The best explanation is that the aircraft was under tow, and somehow the tow vehicle lost control and ended up towing the lower aircraft under the upper aircraft. There is a picture of a similar kind of accident (involving a military police car and an F-15C) on the internet. FC PS But now I'm wondering, because the first pic shows them around the tow bar...wondering if they're connecting it or disconnecting it...
  4. Fubar is correct...FM tuning is an art as well as science. I have been trying to write an FM tutorial good enough for anyone to understand it. It is at 5 pages of single spaced 14 point Times New Roman font, and increasing in size everytime I think about the subject. FC
  5. "talkinq to dhe mami (Person 1) nhd dhe uqly basterd mommy (Person 2) married (Person 3) .. bout to hop in dhe shower innah few minutes ! nhd then hop riqht into bed ! The (Persons) have been substituted by me to protect...well, somebody. I have to ask, is this the way 12 year old girls talk? Because a mom in our cancer group showed what a friend of her niece FB posted...and I have to ask, are kids really this stupid and lazy? FC
  6. The only POSSIBLE exception is the WOI expansion pack which supposedly supports SOME of the new SF2 features. FC
  7. Okay, can anyone understand the following?

The heck with that! Kids will learn our language and like it! Actually, I don't mind language changing, but it shouldn't be less than a generation to do so. And certainly shouldn't be utterly incomprehensible from one generation to the next. FC
  8. Okay, can anyone understand the following?

Lexx, now only you would know that! I'm going to start calling you 'Captain Retro - Lord of the Analog!'. In fact... FC
  9. Okay, can anyone understand the following?

I can understand folks using shorthand when texting from a cell phone, because it's usually a pain to text, especially so if you're using a phone without a QWERTY keyboard (physical or on-screen), or if they have a legitimate circumstance that limits the speed or ability to type (cognitive or physical impairment, etc). Barring these, there is no reason a person with a real computer keyboard available should type anything like the garbage that was posted. Even folks for whom English is not their primary language do a MUCH better job making themselves understood. I swear, if I ever caught my kid doing that crap, they would lose use of every electronic device they had...pen and paper is all you get until you can prove you can actually have some command of the English language. FC
  10. No...the AI doesn't work that way...it doesn't take into account physiological effects of Gs. You can limit the amount of Gs the AI will pull, but that's it really. FC
  11. L-39 Albatros costs :-)

Whoa, didn't realize Jet A had gotten that high. Heck, now I'm thinking that cost per hour is on the low side... FC
  12. This photo put things into perspective

The XC-99 should have reminded you of the B-36...it was derived from it. I used to see it all the time at Kelly AFB slowly falling apart after it was retired. FC
  13. L-39 Albatros costs :-)

Actually, for an aircraft, especially a jet trainer, that's not bad. L-39s have gotten popular lately with the well heeled crowd because of the relatively low costs. However, owning a plane is like owning a boat...unless you're out there everyday, you'll never get as much out of it as you put into it emotionally. That's why fractional ownership plans are so popular, especially in the bizjet crowd. FC PS That fuel cost per hour seems a little high...
  14. TRON, Tron 2.0, Tron Legacy

So, who admits that the movie TRON affected them in a profound way when growing up? Mostly, this means anyone under about 35 probably has no idea what I'm talking about... It was so profound...I never did watch E.T. like everyone else did... Funny enough, I found out decades later that my wife did the exact same thing when she was a kid! Recently reading the TRON:Ghost in the Machine comic miniseries...which caused me to watch the movie again...which caused me to boot up TRON 2.0 again. And btw, using the DX9 HDR effects addon alluded to in another thread has nicely 'tweaked' the game... Monolith really does an FPS right... FastCargo
  15. TRON, Tron 2.0, Tron Legacy

You know, if there was one movie tie-in game that should have been done right, it was Tron:Evolution. Think about it...who is TRON Legacy's core audience...it's going to be those emergent gamers from almost 30 years ago. Those folks who fell in love with the idea of playing inside the computer, before the word 'cyberspace' became common. Those folks have had almost 30 years of gaming and computer experience, seeing the whole progress of the videogame from simple vector based objects to darn near photo realistic environments. That core audience is going to be computer savvy, gaming savvy, and importantly, probably have significant amounts of income they would be willing to spend on a touchstone of their childhood. But as almost 30 year gamers, they've seen a lot of stuff come and go, and have learned the wisdom of what to buy and what to avoid...along with the jaded sense of knowing that 99% of movie tie-in games are utter crap. Honestly, they shouldn't have bothered...do the movie right and don't spin your wheels releasing crap games. I'm happy playing Tron 2.0...it still looks great, and even works better with mods that bring the game close to modern graphics standards. Now, hopefully the movie will be done right...more awesomeness in the meantime. FC
  16. Exactly right. Considering that TK himself has said as of right now, there will be no mission editor other than what was provided for Exp 2, unless you want to get left behind... Besides, for the KAW mod, all the prop driven aircraft so far in development still have MAX files available, so fixing them to bring them up to Exp 2 standard isn't hard. FC
  17. What Is shown in the sim engine is whatever is dictated in the MaxTextureSize listed in the relevant parts of the FLIGHTENGINE.INI file. However, what really matters is how much texture memory is taken up by the texture files. It is assumed that the textures are loaded in video memory and then dynamically resized by the sim for display. However, that means the GPU is using horsepower to resize. Also, it doesn't seem to do as good of a job as a dedicated graphics program such as Gimp or Photoshop. In other words, if you resize the textures yourself you: 1. Use less texture memory 2. Use less GPU power 3. Get a better looking result Now, if the sim resizes the textures before loading them into video memory, then resizing them yourself may not be worth the result. FC
  18. They went to 98,425 feet just 3 minutes, 27.8 seconds from brake release? FC
  19. By the way, I'd imagine the Lightning cockpits that look correct in DX9 probably have the necessary texture. I'd say extract both cockpit directories (the bad ones and the good ones), find which texture the good one has that the bad one doesn't, make a copy of the texture needed and place it in the bad cockpit directory, then place the updated cockpit directory in the relevant Lightning directories and see if that fixes the issue. I have not investigated this part yet to see if it fixes it. FC
  20. I'll tell you the specific issue. I don't think it's a 'no material' assigned issue...otherwise, those parts would actually glow white and be visible through the other parts of the cockpit LOD. What you are seeing is a missing texture. What happens is that any LODs using the newest exporter for 3ds MAX if missing a texture will be white under DX9, but be black under DX10. Here's an example (work in progress): What it should look like (Win7, DX10) What it looks like if the texture is missing (Win7, DX10) What it looks like if the texture is missing (Win7, DX9) Exact same LOD, all I did is temporarily rename the texture bitmap. So the Lightning cockpit is missing a texture...just in DX10, the 'naked' mesh happens to be the color that is desired. Good news is all you have to do is find the texture and it's fixed, no MAX/LOD change needed. FC
  21. I'm sort of with ya on that...it lacks a sort of grace...looks like it goes fast by just plain bullying the air aside. Don't get me wrong, I'm in awe of its performance....but I'll never be a fan of its looks. FC
  22. Trust me, it is WAY easier to do than it sounds. FC
  23. Do it like the FIFA

Please, like the USA is a great hosting place for soccer...are you kidding? The audience for it just isn't there in terms of percentages. Frankly, I've never 'gotten' the fascination with professional sports. Folks who can recite the most trivial sport statistics I've ever heard of, yet don't know why paying the 'minimum balance due' on a credit card is a BAD idea (quiet Lexx_Luthor...no comments from you ) just baffle me. It's kind of like the entertainment industry in general...why do we really give a much of a rat ass as we do? You want a change for stuff like this? Simple...walk away. Don't watch it, read about it, or discuss it with friends. Let players go on strike, let entertainers burn themselves out in creative ways...just don't care. Spend time watching local teams, intramural, or coach. Listen to your local bands, watch a local play. It's amazing what else out there is interesting when you don't care about big entertainment. FC
