Install the latest (Nov.) patch from Thirdwire.
-
Yeah, the first new patch didn't have trees. It was corrected in the next one. The latest patch available should be OK. Funny thing, the patch without the trees really saved some frame rates.

Does that include Igpay Atinlay? -
Merry Christmas everybody! Hope you all are having or had a good Holiday. God Bless.

Thanks old buddy! Take care.

Sorry to butt in JM, but I don't feel like playing Stiglr's games today.

The POINT is when we are playing we can play how we like. No one is any more "idiotic" in their reasoning than anyone else. I never really liked shooting down my "own" side. Go figure. What does it matter?

I know I know a Flight Model question
Tailspin replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
quack, I agree the game has its issues. Rudder authority has been one of my main complaints from the beginning, roll rates etc. A couple of points I'd like to make. While I agree with your general observation regarding 2-seaters, the Brisfit was one of the most successful fighters of the war. As far as catching up with bombers, consider relative speeds. Most fighters of the day were at most only 20-30 mph faster than the bombers some not so much. If the bombers have any kind of altitude advantage and are much more than a half NM away they are going to be very difficult to catch up to and it will take quite a while to do so. If while attacking bombers you chase of after a straggler or engage fighter cover you may find yourself out of the fight. A realistic aspect of the sim IMHO. At least thats been my experience. Another valid, IMHO, point to consider when assessing the current state of FE is that the sim has been evolving constantly since its release. With each change TK makes it affects the previous version in many different ways. No one wants to bust their butt for months reworking flight models only to have the next patch change everything. This is just pure speculation on my part but I think with the latest set of patches for all the Thirdwire series we may be at a settling point for a while. Hope so. IMO the latest iteration of the sim, whether its "realistic" enough or not, is a very good air combat sim with great character and potential. Its that character and potential that keeps me interested. -
I know I know a Flight Model question
Tailspin replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Well said Heck. Several points that seemed to be lost in the beginning from the first complaints about not being able to roll the SPADXIII without going into a nasty spin. Yes, the planes do seem to roll too fast now. This just speeds everything else up. However the AI is so much better than it was before so its tough to go back to the old game. Your ideas on modifying the data.inis are interesting................. -
Greetings nashash! Welcome to the forum! Try this. Open the main game folder (HDD\Program Files\Thirdwire\Wwi) . Inside there will be a folder named Control. Open it and you will see a the Default.ini file. Open it and scroll down to [RangedControl002] which is the Yaw control. Change the line ReverseJoystick= to TRUE. Save the file. I think that will cure your problem....at least I hope it will.

Making flyable Aircraft AI Aircraft
Tailspin replied to chiller1064's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Does it make any difference if the plane is flyable or not? I don't think the sim "cares" when it randomly chooses an opponent as long as the service dates match up. -
Ouestion about default paint on Albatros D.III

Very nice! -
I agree its something we need to work on. I was looking for some N28 skins the other day and more or less had to look through the entire skins section. The search function sucks. BTW....folks, weren't there a few variations for the N28 with different colored cowling???

I always fly USA in WOE and WOV. Strangely I almost never fly USAS in FE. I usually fly the British Camel or the French SPAD VII.

Sky High. I just posted the answer to your question in the FE Knowledge Base for everyone's reference. The color values can also be changed there. -

Here are some things you can do to the HUD display. Extract the Huddata.ini from the FlightData.cat in the Flight folder. You can "turn off" the lines by adding a double forward slash // to the front of the line. [infoDisplay] BackgroundImage=TextBackground.tga BottomLeftPosition=0.01,0.985 <----//BottomLeftPosition=0.01,0.985 will eliminate bottom left display. BottomRightPosition=0.99,0.985<---same as above will eliminate bottom right display DisplayWidth=0.20 VerticalBorder=0.0015 HorizontalBorder=0.008 EnemyTargetColor=1.0,0.0,0.0,1.0 FriendlyTargetColor=0.0,0.0,1.0,1.0 UnknownTargetColor=1.0,1.0,0.0,1.0 WaypointColor=1.0,1.0,1.0,1.0 TextFile=HUDText.str NormalColor=1.0,1.0,1.0,1.0 WarningColor1=1.0,1.0,0.0,1.0 WarningColor2=1.0,0.0,0.0,1.0 AGLAltStart=609.6 AGLAltWarning=152.4 [Display001] DisplayType=DIRECTOR ObjectType=TARGET_ENEMY ConeSize=25 BoxSize=10<----making this value smaller will reduce the size of the box. Try 1 and see if you like it BoxType=SQUARE BoxColor=1.0,0.0,0.0,0.75 ConeModelName=redcone [Display002] DisplayType=DIRECTOR ObjectType=TARGET_FRIENDLY ConeSize=25 BoxSize=10<------Same as above. BoxType=SQUARE BoxColor=0.0,0.0,1.0,0.75 ConeModelName=bluecone [Display004] DisplayType=RADAR PosX=0.865 PosY=0.015 Width=0.125<-------setting WIDTH= and HEIGHT= to 0 will remove the large Aldiss sight in the upper right. OH SH*T Kevin. I just accidentally deleted your post. A 245 is a great game. I've had ONE 299 in 25 years or so. Had a couple games where I've had 10 in a row. My initial reaction was Man what a bummer!!! Then I thought maybe the Bowling Gods knew he was gonna go, had paid his dues and it was a reward.

New patch released for ALL ThirdWire sims.
Tailspin replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Heads up. TK has re-released the patch that restores the trees to the terrain. You'll have to do another reinstall...at least I did..to get the new patch to load. The bad thing is I discovered why I was getting better framerates before.....no trees. Anyway, thanks TK for getting on top of the problem and fixing it. Can't beat that for support. -

Well the new patch fixed the trees in First Eagles. . Thanks TK. I also discovered that trees really affect framerates. -

No trees after patch
Tailspin replied to kukulino's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There are a LOT of differences between the Apr. 08 and Oct. 08 Terrain data for First Eagles but so far I haven't found anything that makes the trees come back. Minor inconvenience AFAIC. It'll get fixed, I'm sure. -
Yep. I noticed that on all the late DVIIs too.
