As I see it, its basically just a powered glider. The interesting aspect is the guy seems to have designed a set of "hard" wings that can be "worn" and they work. The engines gave him enough thrust to get across the 22 miles in 10 min. which gives an average speed of over 120mph. I don't know about military applications...those little turbojets are pretty noisy. The already proven HALO type of insertion would probably be more practical.

realistic head movement mod?
Tailspin replied to markkyle66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It should work. Try it and see. Just back up your AircraftObject.ini first so if it doesn't you can go back to the default values. -
motor Fokker...play on words. Like Jonathan Winters' Maudie Fricker. Good to see you're still with us, hurricane.

I use the long and laborious task of placing objects in game. Activate the Debug mode in the huddata.ini, fly to the area I want to place objects then crash. Then you can use the mouse to zoom around and find places to put your objects and record the exact coordinates from the debug screen. Use the offsets and you don't have to create a new target area.

Good deal! You shouldn't have to disable the shaders in XP. Just a guess but I'm thinking the flightengine.ini fix will take care of your XP CTDs.
-
Hmmm....You are saving the modded WWICambraiData.ini and WWIVerdunData.ini and putting each in their respective wwiCambrai and wwiVerdun folders? Try the Flightengine.ini update and see if that works. If you think there may be a problem with the download, try contacting TK at the Thirdwire forum. I doubt you'll have to pay to redownload it.

Excellent advice from Mig Buster. I would only add that you try and get an unmodded (FE+EP+Patch) version up and running before you add anything else. Then add any mods one at a time checking for problems as you go. Some third party aircraft can cause CTDs. The fix for that is here. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=12148 The fix for Vista does work. Make sure you follow the directions exactly.

First Experiences (and some feedback)
Tailspin replied to ojcar's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
By most accounts I've read most of the fighters were very responsive in pitch and yaw and not so much in roll. I do agree with B Bandy. These planes were mostly wood and fabric and not necessarily designed with the idea of inherent stability built in. The fact that the Fokker DVII seemed to achieve that balance and stability is what made it so spectacular. -
I started in EAW too...around 99 or so. My old webpage is still around. http://www.tailspinzskinz.homestead.com All those planes were made from the old PAW Ki-61 and Kate models converted to EAW.

New Water Shader in the works
Tailspin replied to Fubar512's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Dadburnit Fubar! Now I really have to upgrade my 'puter. That looks great! -
Yep. Thats the problem. I have shadows set to LOW. Changing to Medium causes the airframe parts to show. Never tried it with shadows "on", or higher than low since the Apr. patch, because shadows really eat framerates on my machine. Good catch, Peter.

Bristol Fighter Overwing Lewis
Tailspin replied to Mike Dora's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Good one, guys! Removing little used or incorrectly mounted guns (ie. the Lewis' on the Brisfit and Dolphin) actually adds to the "authenticity" of the sim. -
Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Fubar!!! Don't listen to them young'uns. What the hell do they know?
-
Strange indeed. I'm running (don't laugh too hard ) 98SE with a GeForce 3 and very old drivers. Yeah I know, its the 21st Century.
-
Yes, I am running the Apr. 08 patch. I have 3 versions of FE installed. Pre EP, EP pre-patch, and patched EP and the cockpit toggle works like it should on them all. I only have one add-on plane installed in the patched EP, but it too works. Both of the other installs are HEAVILY modded.

Silverbolt, I am using pretty much the basic set up. No special view "mods" or anything. Due to the age of my vid card I have most everything set to Medium graphics wise.
-
Geeze! I go next door to have a few beers and I come back to this. Stiglr, I'm only going to say this once. We're not going to play your game on this forum. Take it to heart, bro.
-
Yep.
-
No, its not supposed to be that way. The cockpit toggle works just fine for me. Toggle the pit off and all I can see is the gunsight and the exhaust smoke when I look to the rear. Sorry, J. Kelly, but I have no idea what is causing your (or Silverbolt's apparently ) problem. OH...and welcome to CombatACE! Thanks for contributing...we appreciate it.

Very nice addition to the game P10ppy. I've moved the file announcement to the FE page. As you mentioned, that is an unfortunate aspect of how the forums are set up. I try to keep an eye on the SF/WO* announcements page for FE announcements but sometimes I forget or, like last weekend, I am away from the 'puter. So if you or anyone else has a file announcement that needs to be moved just drop me a line (PM or here) and I'll move it...NP, takes about 10 seconds.

The Russians aren't any more inclined to do anything that results in their destruction now than they were before. They will only do what they think they can get away with. The sticky point right now is NATO, Europe, and the US need to be strong enough to take a FIRM, unwavering stand and let them know what they can't get away with.

Sad news. Things are heating up in Afghanistan as the Taliban has regrouped. It about time to send them back into the hills again.

Ok, first things first. If you want to use the new flight models they aren't designed for or really compatible with the Apr. 08 patch. Sorry, but there isn't really much of a option. If you want to fly the 3rd party planes, you'll need to reinstall FE and EP1 without adding the Apr.08 patch. Then you can install Peter's full set. Good thing is this package comes with everything you'll need to get the game up and running with all the correct loadouts and weapondata, modified gundata, etc. Third party planes that aren't included in this set likely won't work well in the game. Since you already have some 3rd party aircraft installed, I would recommend making a copy of your Aircraft folder and putting it in a temp. folder on your desktop or somewhere outside the main FE folder. Then you can reinstall and just drag and drop your previously installed 3rd party planes from the saved Aircraft folder into the new Aircraft folder. Then you can check Peter's full set and download and install any planes you may be missing before you install Peter's files. If you want to keep the Apr. 08 patch (with just the stock aircraft) and want bombs to show up you'll need to delete your Weapon folder and any 3rd party weapondata.ini or weapondata.dat files you may have added when you installed the older weapons from the 3rd party A/C.
