How are Instant Mission parameters defined?
Tailspin replied to swambast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Hi swambast, belated welcome to CA! There are two places I know of where Instant Action parameters are defined. One is the Options.ini in the main folder and the other, more detailed, is the InstantAction.ini in the MissionData.CAT in the Flight folder. You'll probably have to extract the InstantAction.ini from the .CAT file using the SFP1e file extract utility found here in the downloads section. Sorry I can't help much with what all the parameters do...... -

Also you can try and run the EXP PACK installer again and see if it works. Might avoid having to do a complete reinstall.... -

Hmmmm...since I don't know what you've got in your install as far as mods and it would be difficult to explain how to save them I suggest you start over from the beginning. If you have the hard drive space you can keep your current install if you want by renaming it. Go to your main WWI folder and rename it oldWWI or something. If you don't want to keep it then delete it. Then reinstall First Eagles and the Expansion Pack. Make sure the filepath (use the browse button in the installer) is directed to the correct folder (...whatever drive it is/Thirdwire/etc.) Now you have a clean install to work with and you can rebuild your modded game from there. I know its a PITA but its the "safe" way to do it. Don't feel bad. I've had to do it myself before. To avoid having to run the installer again in the future you can make copy of a clean install by right clicking and Copy the game folder in the same Thirdwire folder. Just keep it named Copy of WWI. It won't interfere with anything. That way you have a game folder with all the files in it...in case something disappears again. -
import AI from WOI
Tailspin replied to christian59's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Exactly. I think the point about the new parameters is how the AI will utilize these with the new code revisions in the upcoming patch. It should get even better. -
SORRY PEOPLE....
Tailspin replied to Tailspin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok. There will be restrictions on some of my mods that use certain other people's work. I have suspended those mods until I can revise the Readme files to reflect those restrictions. Not a big deal AFAIC. Anything I have created myself will be unrestricted but you'll still have to READ the README to make sure. -
weapons editor question question

After you installed the Expasion Pack there should have been three folders in the Cambrai folder...Snow, Spring, and Fall. These folders contain all the repainted terrain tiles for the different seasons. Did the seasons ever work for the Cambrai terrain? If so, then they were there at one time. If you installed the Vogesen terrain by just extracting the .rar file to the main Terrain folder then it should have installed everything in the right place without overwriting anything. Like I said I only do it my way so I can see whats in the .rar. Only the contents of the season folder that came with the Vogesen terrain should be installed in the Cambrai season folders themselves and the installation process should have done that automatically. This is from the download page: INSTALLATION 1.) unzip all files into your WWI/Terrain folder (files will be placed in folders Vogesen AND wwiCambrai) 2.) the file "Burgen am Rhein.msn" put into your missions folder Thats it. By taking them out do you mean you deleted them? If so, look in your Recycle Bin if you haven't emptied that. Look around for the originals. Where might you have put them? I don't know what happened, bad original install, accidental overwrite, or what, but if those files are gone I think the only way to get them back is to reinstall the Expansion Pack. Without those files in their entirety the seasonal changes won't work for ANY terrain. Don't worry. You're not bothering me. I just wish I could be more helpful and think of something that can fix the problem without you having to reinstall the EP. -

Good thing is decent power supplies are not expensive and they are relatively easy to replace. Good luck, doc. -
http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=26103 There is a big change in the way a lot of the Thirdwire modding community here will be doing business. I'd like to suggest everyone join in. Of course this is strictly voluntary but IMHO its a long needed change for the better of the community as a whole. Thanks! TS

Modding / Permissions
Tailspin replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Good point P10ppy. I would suggest everyone include a Readme file explaining their terms of use. Anyone who mods another's file must include the author's original Readme in the next iteration. The original Readme should be included in each and every mod of a mod of the original. In other words even if the mod goes through several editions by different people the original Readme stays in the package. Of course we will be operating on the honor system but I don't thnk that will be a major problem. -

I'm in. Anyone wants to use any of my stuff all you have to do is include the original Readme file...and no payware please. -
Great idea! Would require some work to get everything in the correct era though. Transfer GO's, Targets and Types .inis, new airfield textures, etc., etc.

Ahem. We're approaching the line here. Its perfectly fine to "review" the review itself but lets not let this get into a site bashing affair. Thanks. -
import AI from WOI

Stick. You'll have to extract it from the ObjectData.CAT file in the Objects folder. Use the file extraction utility available here in the downloads section. -
import AI from WOI
Tailspin replied to christian59's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It might work in the way it makes the AI behave in dogfights but it can't take advantage of any new parameters in the FM etc. because that data doesn't exist in the old games. You have always been able to copy over all the AI dogfight data and make them all aces or whatever and that does affect the AI but not in the way the new code in FE and WOI does. In other words it may change the way the AI manouevers but it may not really improve them that much. -
Nice!

weapons editor question question
Tailspin replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Nope. The stock Cambrai terrain comes with a Snow, Fall, and Spring folder. These contain all the files you need for the seasons to work in the Cambrai terrain. The Vogesen terrain uses these textures (files) to make seasons also. Those two files in each of the season folders that come with the Vogesen terrain are textures around the Rhein river that are particular to Vogesen. Those go in the stock Cambrai season folders with the rest of the files already in there. Do the seasons work for Cambrai? Sounds like you may have overwritten the stock season folders trying to create the new season folders for Vogesen which isn't necessary. I'm guessing the seasons don't work for Cambrai either? If they still do then I have no idea what may be wrong. I had a quick look and I'm not sure you can get those stock season folders back without reinstalling the Exp. Pack. Sorry for all the problems, but I think if you had just extracted the Vogesen.rar file into the main Terrain folder as explained in the text on the download page it would have worked as advertised. Gepard has been doing terrain mods for a long time and they've always worked fine AFAIK. -
weapons editor question question
Tailspin replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Ok, I just had to try it for myself. I like the Vogesen terrain and I have had the original since it was released. I downloaded the new version and the weather changes work just fine for me. Using snow for example, it will appear starting 1/1 thru 1/27. [season001] Directory=..\wwiCambrai\Snow StartDate=1/1 <---- EndDate=1/27 <---- ScatteredChance=0 BrokenChance=40 OvercastChance=50 InclementChance=10 Snow will always appear during these dates. The rest of the numbers are for cloud conditions and have nothing to do with the ground condition. As described I kept retrying the Accept button until I got a date within the timeframe to appear in the upper right hand corner of the Hangar screen. Here's how I installed it. Since I already had the other version of Vogesen I removed it from my terrain folder. Then I extracted everything in the new Vogesen.rar file into a separate folder on my desktop...just right click on the desktop and create a New Folder and extract into the New Folder (Windows/Desktop/NewFolder). Open the New Folder and you will see a folder named Vogesen, the three Seasons folders, a custom mission, and a Readme. Copy, Drag and Drop, or Cut and Paste the Vogesen folder into the Exp Pack Terrain folder. Open each season folder and Copy (or use whatever method you like) the contents (two files each, NOT the folder itself) into each season folder in the wwiCambrai terrain folder. Extracting directly to the main Terrain folder in the Exp. Pack should so this automatically for you but I always extract to another folder because: 1. I always like to see whats going into my sim and 2. This will prevent folders getting "nested" inside other folders which won't work. I didn't install the mission but it goes in the Mission folder. As they say "VIOLA"! It worked for me. Hope this helps you out. Gotta go, be back online later this evening. -
weapons editor question question
Tailspin replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
You're certainly welcome. Unfortunately I'm far busier with RL issues than I am computer gaming these days. I have a few projects that have been sitting on the back burner for weeks now. I get my kids raised and on their own and now I have to care for my elderly parents. The "circle of life" has true meaning. -
weapons editor question question
Tailspin replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Basically what the weapons editor does is create a new weaponsdata.dat file which is what the game uses to set weapons parameters etc. in game. It usually only works in Win 98 compatability mode because it was created and coded for Win. 98. How it works? Well I'll give it this a try but and apologize in advance if this doesn't make sense. When you add a new weapon or modify an existing one you edit the WeaponsData.ini. You can do this by editing the WeaponsData.ini with a text editor (Notepad, etc.) or you can actually edit the data.ini within the weapons editor itself. You run the editor then click the OPEN button and find the WeaponsData.ini through the correct filepath in the "Look in" pulldown. Highlight or double click the WeaponsData.ini and it will appear on the screen in the editor. Double click the weapon you want to update and either make the changes in the editor or make sure the changes you may have already made in the file are correct. Then you click the SAVE button and close the editor. This will create the new WeaponsData.DAT file. Re: the season changes for the new Vogesen update. I don't have it so I can't say for sure but the Vogesen terrain is probably set up to find the correct folders even though they are not physically present in the Vogesen terrain folder itself. Re: Date specific weather changes. In Single Missions the game randomly generates a date for the mission. In order to get a specific date to show you have to make a custom mission. Otherwise you can keep switching back and forth from the Create mission screen to the Hangar screen until the date in the upper right hand corner of the Hanger screen falls within the season you want to fly in....at least thats the way I do it. There may be an easier way...I don't know. Finally, I'd like to encourage you to "hang in there" and not give up. I've kind of followed along with some of your posts here and other places and I actually admire your tenacity in trying to tackle all this stuff. The "trick" is to always back up the files you're attempting to change so you can easily return to your previous version. Once you have this done the best thing, IMHO, is to jump in and try it out. Most readme files and directions will make more sense when you can see the changes you've implimented. Its really the only way to come to an understanding of how things work in the game. -
WOI Improvements
Tailspin replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just going by how First Eagles does it you will find both fighters and bombers at airbases. The sim seems to choose static A/C from the aircraft folder and add-on planes are included in the "mix". That is assuming it works the same in WOI. As far as scramble vs. evasion its a great feature regardless.... -
Laton. I deleted your first attempt and approved the second so we should be good to go.

weapons editor question question
Tailspin replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
That is true P10ppy. I hadn't noticed TK has added drag coefficients to the bombs and rockets. Also, there could be a conflict if the old weapon names are the same as the new ones. Like I said, I haven't looked into it closely enough so I probably shouldn't be commenting. What I was looking at is the installation procedure and not what might happen after. -
weapons editor question question
Tailspin replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I haven't looked into this in depth but since all the old planes still have their loadout.inis there shouldn't be much you have to do to them individually to get them to work like they did before. I would think it just a matter of reinstalling the third party weapons per the instructions that come with the readme files for the addon aircraft using the new weapons editor make them work. BTW...I understand your complaint. Its a Royal PITA sometimes. :yes: Edit: What I mean is no, you don't have to work on each individual plane. The only thing that kept us from installing the old weapons was the old editor didn't work with the new EP. Now the procedure should work just like it did before.
