AA MG Airfield Gunners for FE Expansion Pack 1
Tailspin posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: AA MG Airfield Gunners for FE Expansion Pack 1 File Submitter: Tailspin File Submitted: 27 Oct 2007 File Updated: 7 Feb 2008 File Category: Ini Edits File Version: No Information Website: No Information Anti-Aircraft Machinegunners for FE Expansion Pack 1 This is an updated version of my AAMG mod for First Eagles. I have placed AA machinegunners at all the airfields for both the Cambrai and Verdun maps. These are usually found near the heavy AAA guns but since TK has rearranged some of the fields and created new one that may not always be the case. Regardless, sightseeing over enemy airfields is not recommended. ;^) Installation: WARNING!!! This procedure will OVERWRITE your existing .INI files. If you want to keep them PLEASE BACK THEM UP BEFORE INSTALLATION OF THIS MOD. First unzip the mod to a Temp folder on your Desktop or other area thats convenient for you. You will find the following files: WWICAMBRAI_TARGETS.INI WWICAMBRAI_TYPES.INI WWIVERDUN_TARGETS.INI WWIVERDUN_TYPES.INI ParabellumAAA VickersAAA Open the Terrain folder in the main FE EXP 1 directory. Put the WWICAMBRAI_TARGETS.INI & WWICAMBRAI_TYPES.INI in the WWICambrai terrain folder. Repeat with the WWIVERDUN_TARGETS.INI & WWIVERDUN_TYPES.INI for the WWIVerdun terrain folder. Open the Objects folder in the main directory. Put the ParabellumAAA and VickersAAA folders in the GroundObjects folder. Thats all there is to it. REMEMBER...this will overwrite the .INIs. If you have modded Terrain .INIs you can follow the old installation procedures outlined in the original AAMG mod. Thanks to the ATEAM for the AAA Machinegunner models and permission to use them in this mod. If you have any problems with this mod, please contact me and do not contact any member of the ATeam. NOTES: As there have been changes to the airfields and new ones added you may encounter a machinegunner in an odd place such as too near or inside another object on an airfield. If you see one, just post in the First Eagles forum and www.combatace.com and I will try and fix it. Enjoy Tailspin. Click here to download this file -

Question Regarding Campaign Files in Original FE
Tailspin replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Barkhorn1. Don't know if you know about the SFP1e file extract utility but you'll need that. Files are packed into .CAT files which are located in the game folders. The extract utility makes copies of the files so deleting the extracted files returns the sim to "stock" configuration. -
Hmmmm....just did some more missions in the 130hp version. I must've been thinking of one of the other Camels when I posted earlier. Although I did get a couple of kills, that thing made me seasick when I tried to fly level. I'll try P10ppy's suggestion. edit...Thanks P10ppy! That did the trick...just like you said. Geeze...I gotta put down that crack pipe.

The way I get the 130 to fly is manipulate that blip switch. Throttle down and nose comes down. Let go and she rises. Elevator response smooths out some at a certain speed. In fact if you are having trouble lining up a shot, throttle down as you take final aim. She'll stop bobbin' so much and you can get off a decent shot. I like the tail-heavy feeling with the new FM. Stalls, spins. When an enemy A/C "dies" it rolls over and spirals in like it should. I'm amazed how good the new models look on my old beater of a system. So far, so good. Bound to be bugs and glitches and that usually brings another patch but I've started trying to bring some of my mods up to Expansion standards. The Airfield MG AAA mod works OK for the new Verdun terrain. The Bridges for Verdun mod does not. TK has added his own bridges here and there and they are not placed the same as mine so I have to sort that out. Then there's the totally new terrain. Such is life as a Thirdwire modder.
-
Those are screenies from random Single Missions.
-
You shouldn't be able to actually blip the inlines. There is however an engine shut off switch too.
-
The ATeam has been uploading some of their stuff to CA for quite awhile now. The Pfalz just got uploaded to the wrong category. Its been moved to the planes section.
-
I would assume that with new repainted tiles and .ini mods it will work with the Verdun terrain too. I wonder if this feature will be incorporated in the new Patch for FE and the other Thirdwire sims.
-
Gambit...The seasons work in Single Missions too. Fall shows up end of September, Snow end of November thru end of January....or thereabouts. See the screenshots in the other thread. ps...TK has posted the Snow dates are Nov. 26 - Jan. 27.
-
Here you go. Spring, Fall, and Snow. I found the specific dates in the terrain .ini. Spring 01/28-06/21 Fall 09/21-11/25 Winter 11/26-01/27

Yep. I'm already flying the SPAD VIIs. For the AEG you just need to find an existing bomber cockpit that might work better.

Personally, I don't care for self-installing "mega-packs". I never use self installers anyway. I like to know what is going in my game and what is being overwritten so it all goes into a Temp. folder first. I have way too many .INIs set up to my personal tastes, clouds, sounds, aircraft dates, engine armor, etc, etc. Not saying those all inclusive installs aren't great. They are and it takes a lot of hard work and attention to detail. But they also take up HDD space and mine is limited right now. Right now, I'm not modding the Expansion Pack. I want to see whats in it first. That way I don't "break" something new trying to "fix" something else. HOWEVER, if someone wants to build a Mega-Pack for those who aren't inclined or capable of installing individual mods themselves you can use any of my mods. The worn airfield texture won't work with the new tiles. Not sure about the Bridges for Verdun. Depends on whether the layout of the road network was changed. I see where TK has added bridges defended by AAA in his Cambrai terrain. Wonder where he got that idea and where's my money?

capun....There is no Weapons folder. I've not added a thing to the game except for the PUP. I didn't install the weapons folder that came with it. The only extra file I added was the RotaryEngine.wav to the Sound folder.
-
Mine only CTDs on an RAF Co-op mission. Works OK for the German side. I have a clean, unmodded install.
-
Heck. I just tried an Army Co-op in the Camel and it CTD's (no black screen, no error message) when I hit Accept.

Just looking through the terrain Targets and Types .inis there looks like some new stuff in there. Bridges and a Chateau. Some of the airfields are laid out differently so they don't all look same. I like the new terrain textures. Sure beats flying over the same old MSFS type terrain. (JMHO. A personal preference, no offense meant to those who make or use those types of tiles). BTW...I loaded up the ATeam's Pup (with Peter01's last FM) and tried it out. Flys OK but needs some tweaking...seems underpowered now. I assume all the 3rd party planes will need reworking to incorporate the new stall parameters and such.

2. The addon overwrites a bunch of files. Those files are listed at the Thirdwire site in the Readme.txt file. It pretty much overwrites all the stock aircraft .INIs and also the Terrain Target and Types .INIs. You also get new terrain and airfield textures. I chose to do a clean install of First Eagles, patched it up to v.02.19.07. then installed the Expansion pack. The only glitch I had was my version of DirectX 9.0c wasn't compatible and caused a CTD. I upgraded to the last version of 9.0c and it took care of it. Here's a link to the readme.txt at Thirdwire. They recommend not just copying your mods into the new game. They say its best to modify the new files themselves. http://www.thirdwire.com/readme/wwi_exp1_readme.txt I haven't flown it enoughto comment on your other questions...although the Camel seems to be a handful.

You have to love these guys...
Tailspin replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Raw nerve? BTW...that post at SimHQ was really just one of the (The sim will remain nameless. No sense is starting a Forum flamefest) fanbois trolling the FE forum. Seems they think because the same half dozen crusty and dusty old forumheads like to "hear themselves talk" day and night, and that makes their forum more "active", that is some sort of "gauge" of their sim's worthiness. -
Hey man, Barry is DA BOMB!
-
Good stuff, AD.
-
I didn't vote because I really didn't find my category. Blues and Rock with a little Metal now and then. Also like acoustic guitar music of all kinds. Who do I listen to? Clapton, Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Allman Bros., SRV, Neil Young. I've been listening to them since they were new. I like a lot of the newer Rock bands but I have no idea who they are.

Couple of questions about Nieuports
Tailspin replied to peter01's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yep. When I saw the page, complete with detailed "period drawings", I thought "Ya can't beat that". Then after your post I looked at the pictures. The drawing shure doesn't seem to be the same as the pictures. Regardless this will be another great addition. Its been a good couple of days. Big thanks to the original modders for taking these projects on. -
Couple of questions about Nieuports
Tailspin replied to peter01's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Just Google Nieuport 27. You will find a few pics of the wing tips although nothing from directly above. They look a little more square to me more than anything. They don't really look like the profile from the drawings in the "mars" link, though. -
Are the 2-seaters more aggressive now?
Tailspin replied to Bandy's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Of course the two seaters shouldn't really be a match for a single seater in a dogfight. (This is, after all, how the Eindecker earned its reputation, IMHO. ) I don't think this is the case in the game. If it weren't for that damned rear gunner....
