  1. Is it just me?

    Seriously Ive not flown much sims at all for the last 6-9 months due to other RL intrests takin up time so I might be rusty as hell but I find FE:E1 to be quite hard. Ive been playing the second expansion campaing (ace expanded version I posted in another thread) with RAF squadron nr 70 and Im finding it extreamly hard to stay alive and not loose the entire squad.     Yepp with E1 they actually fight back which they didnt do in FE vanila. What makes them so deadly is that they combine beeing a great plane with good fighter ablities plus the great gunners of E1. A RE8 you can always dive in under and shoot from below or come in and rake along the wings from up high but a fighter you tend to endup in a 6 high position and thats where the gunner eats you. Tex

    Speakin stricktly from gameplay.... the Salmson is awsome to fly... great veriaty in missions... just one forward gun.... great visibilty and great plane overall... the jug of ww1...

  8. Great to see the progress on the N´s!!! Im really glad that they get done. Just a FYI. Im working on a program that allows the creation of install packages based on individual mods hosted here on CA. I will be using the N´s as my proff of concept. Once you are done with the Expansion verisons I will make a "Nieuport Install Package" that contains all the N´s and all the skins. Well "contains" is not the right word as references is a better word. The install package is just a set of link that points out what should be installed and how. So no double sources to maintain. But from the users perspective its a package that gets downloaded and installed. Tex

  10. Hi all modders out there in the FE world. One thing that I find extreamly annoying out of a user perspective is that once one has installed FE, FE patches and FE expansion one has to go and download tons of little bits and pieces inorder to get a rich content. The biggest issue that one has no idea which little mod works with what version of FE. Do peter01´s FMs work with the expansion? Do the skins old SPAD7 (XIII moded into a VII) skins work on the new one. If not will they be updated? Basicly each time a new expansion comes out one has to go through all small mods once again and see which ones apply. This takes hours and hours to get done. Worst thing is when we get to campaings. First is the campaing still working? Then is the terrain working? Then are all the planes and weapons working? ITS A PITA!!!!! As a user Id really like a one click download that I know is "certified" with a certain version. It should also be packaged so that one just extracts it into the install folder and your ready to play. It shouldnt be harder then that for a user to get a rich FE experience. Atm its way too hard for users to get the full potential of the game. A game having alot of potential but beeing tedious is not a game you buy again. So I wonder if you modders out there are willing to contribute your work to a package that would containing the following. Adding everything would be nice but hardly manageable could add on stuff as time goes on but I would see this as a possible start. Flyable Planes by their respective moder (whom ofcourse would have to give permission for each and every item used) and FMs from peter01 if he could get it all done. I dont want to be dissing any of the "stock mod" FMs but it would be great to have them all alligned by the same mind: AEG G.IV AviatikC2 BE-2d Bregeut14 D.F.W. All four campaings enriched with planes, terrain rotation and as many aces as possible. A extra campaing on the Flanders map going from late 1916 or early 1917 to 1918 progressing through planes as correctly as possible. Would anyone out here be willing to contribute towards such a project? By allowing usage of their models and by contributing with skining planes and terrains, testing fms, making campaings and anything else needed inorder to complete a project like this one. Tex

  12. 32 aces that served in the area at the time are now present in the campaing. rename to .ini and place in <install>\Campaigns\wwiE1Camp2 Tex WWIE1CAMP2_DATA.txt

    The commented out stuff is TKs. It was there in the old FE stock campains as well I think it is the planes that where actually flown by that squad at that time. The current plane is subing for the commented plane. This is great because one can easily make the campain more realistic when one downloads planes. Tex

    Running a campaing with the 56 squadron and its quite hard to keep the Aces alive... at least I want them alive and want them around but the AI is really dangerous now so one has to try and stay near em if one wants them to survive...

    The squads with the most aces are RAF Squadron 56 and Squadron 40 Germany Jasta2, Jasta5 and Jasta11 If you download the following skins... J5 Oberleutnant Richard Flashar's Albatros D.V 2065/17 Jasta 5 Vfw Josef Mai's Albatros D.V 5284/17 Otto Konnecke Jasta 15 Veltjens Extract them into DV folder instead of DVa folder and rename the files to *DV* from *DVa* then they will be used on their respective pilot. Manfred and Lothar also use skins.

    FM? Is it right? Eeehhhh its good enough... Its no where near the FM of Aces High 2 which imho is the best prop FM out there and would love to fly it WW1 style... that said its a good and fun FM.. Gunnary? Id like a level between Normal and Hard. Hard is ping ping ping ping ping ping ping ping... Normal is booom boooooom booooooooooooooooooooooooom... Immersion? Expansion pack definatly adds to the immersion. Custom campaings will be out that are very immersive. Stock are ok.

    peter I would definatly wait a bit till there is a patch out. Let things stabilize before you take on that huge project. Then what I think would be a good way to go about it is. 1. Fix the FMs 2. Create two default AIs 1 fast plane AI and 1 slow plane AI that work well enough on most planes 3. Fine tune specialized AI for each plane. Honestly Id be happy enough with step 1 and 2. Tex

    @general topic I think this thread http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=22935 shows the need of a thing like this @Firecage Ive not said anything about CD or money. No such thing should be involved. If its a community thing its a community thing. @Maybe another way to do this I can see the problem with everyone wanting to get involved, contributing, ect, ect and the fact that there would be two sources that needed to be kept up to date the standard mini mod and the package. There might be another way about this. Maybe I should sitt down and write a downloader/installer. This is how it could work. XML files that define install packages. Each package is "certified" (strong word but at least verified) against a certain version of FE. For example a campaing developer devs a campaing he then creates a xml file which includes links to that campaing, the maps needed, the planes need, the ground objects needed and the skins needed and information what version its been tested for. Download the xml, fire up the installer, select the xml, enter your CA username/password and hit install. Now this can theoretically be done but it would need the permission fo the CA crew to write a installer that logs on to the site and makes the download. It really isnt any different then one doing it manually in terms of traffic to the site. It just automates the procedure. Tex

  23. *looks around* Hi guys. Ive been kind of afk for a bit... took a ski trip built a camper van took a surf trip and suddenly it s oktober.. ;) Anyways the subject of two seaters is one close to my heart. I love the two seaters and the gameplay potential they provide. But before we get to that we need to consider a few things. 1. How where (historically) they actually used? 2. How could (historically) they have been used? 3 How can (gameplay wise) they be used? These three questions dont have the same answer. Also it differes from plane to plane. But some of the two seaters could have been used as the "P-47s of ww1". From a pure gameplay perspective using them that way is awsome. Ive made my self custom campaings where I fly a Salmson squadron and it has all roles assign to it. This is awsome because you get to bomb, fight, scout well everything and in a plane that does it all well. Plus it solves a game play issue with the very high damage guns, well not solves it but having just one makes life a bit harder. That handles gameplay from the 2 seater pilots perspective. AI is trickey. Setting all (well at least the ones with forward moutned guns) two seater squadrons to all mission types doesnt really solve the problem. The problem is with the non fighter mission ai. If a plane regardless of type is on a A2G mission then it will ignore enemies on A2A missions. So only way to get two seaters agressive is to have them run A2A missions and this becomes strange. Another problem with having two seaters do Escort is that you can encounter situations where two seaters escort single seaters and that is some funkey poop. But when you run into a flight of bombers escorted by two seaters then you have a fun mission ahead of you. Tex

    Hey guys here I am... When I got back from my vacation I came home and realized my ISP (with whom Ive been at war for almost 6 moths) had screwed up again and now my connection had gone from working badly to not at all. Fortunatly now its back online AND stable enough to play on. This is good news for me but in the way that I can spend alot of time playing on Aces High 2 again. Ive missed my favo sim, alot. Im heading out sking again over easter and after easter Im starting a new project (which I will post pics off as we get there). Busy schedule I know but there is time over for FE as well... Tex
