Well, that's about it for me...
LordOliver replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, Kali is ok too.. I use it for Panzer Elite. I just tried MP in HL for the first time tonight since patching and did not have a single error or CTD. Maybe it is just my luck. Take a breather MJ... don't let it get to you. I myself am haveing a grand ol time with this sim. Maybe my expectations weren't as high as some, I dunno. The only 2 other sims I fly are IL-2 and Flanker and the occasional forray into CFS1 flying WW1 planes with my old Ritterorden squad. Each game has it's own brand of frustrations. I just don't stress about them anymore. I enjoy what I have while I can and that is the fact of it. For this sim, strike missions and CAS are a blast for me (literally), the sounds are great.. the visuals very nice. The community support has been outstanding overall,, and for any sim, you cannot ask much more than that. Sure there are naysayers as well as fanatics (all games have them), but I believe the overall tone has been positive. As for development, TK has been the only developer who has ever answered a personal email from me about a game. That reflects a certain amount of pride and dedication to his work and I am impressed. He might have had a better pub than Strat First, but you deal with what you have, and he has been doing that. Overall, I still give this game a hearty thumbs up, I enjoy it and interacting with the people involved with it. -
Is it just me, or is the chaff and flare still bent?

SP1 Patch Problems - Post here!
LordOliver replied to MadJeff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If you guys look at the readme.txt file that came with the patch... under section 6 "Known Issues": "* The RWR display present aboard the F-4E Phantom II may not display properly on certain ATI video cards." not sure how that helps your problem... but at least it is a known issue to Thridwire. -

My Saitek for SFP1
LordOliver replied to Fates's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The importaint thing is that it works for you. I myself use the SST profiling software so I can use the mode switches and use the mouse hat as a mouse. The different modes I use depend on my mission and the situation. for example take button B: For me mode 1 button B is padlock enemy air.. pinky-shift/B switches enemy air targets Mode 2 button B padlocks enemy ground... pinky-shift/B cycles ground targets Mode 3 button B padlocks friendly air.. pinky-shift/B cycles friendly units... and so on, not for every button or hat.. but it is flexible. There are few commands I have to actually use the keyboard for. This may not work for you or others but it is intuitive for me. I think your command list looks good, if it works for you, that is most importaint. :) -
Squadron... please.

I've been using HL for about a year now and it is SO much better than Gamespam, er Gamespy. As far as Galen is concerned.. his reputation preceeds him wherever he goes. Take a peek over at Luthier's site on his "Ignore GT campaign"... good stuff. Very informative. http://www.il2center.com/ -

TrackIR, you have GOT to see this!
LordOliver replied to pcpilot's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Several members of my IL-2 squadron have one, and they swear by them once one get used to it... said they never use padlock functions anymore. They keep creeping down in price... I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get one soon. Hmmmm I wonder.. is it possible to have a track-ir AND use 3D glasses at the same time? -
From the SimHQ forum.. MiG-17's overpowered?

Rather than retype or copy the info from the SimHQ forum... I thought I would post the link... good info. Even some input by TK http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bb...TML/003493.html -

From the SimHQ forum.. MiG-17's overpowered?
LordOliver replied to LordOliver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I am not being selective, I am posting whole sentences he wrote, not segments thereof... we all read the context we want to... he stated that "Others" were close enough from what I read and not taken out of context... "... But you're correct, MiG-21MF data in the game was using wrong data. Thanks, TK" what is selective about that? I'm not forcing this info on anyone... and if people read the posts that he and others made, they can decide... I am not arguing for it or against it, I am offering the information... that is all... -
From the SimHQ forum.. MiG-17's overpowered?
LordOliver replied to LordOliver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
"The only data so far that we know that were "way off" (due to typoes and other errors) are the MiG-17 and the afterburner on Tu-22. Others, we have adjusted a little, but we feel the original numbers were close enough for government work..." -TK "... But you're correct, MiG-21MF data in the game was using wrong data. Thanks, TK" also from my ref... I'm just pointing out that there are some admitted errors in the numbers for some of the Soviet aircraft. there are some offered corrections in the linked posts... currently for example, the use of the afterburner on the Tu-22 actually halves the thrust. Use them or not.. I am just offering info. -

LordOliver replied to LordOliver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
OK, I'm not trying to troll here or anything, but did you READ the forum link I posted? I didn't say I thought they were to hard to kill... I have no problem dispatching them. Maybe I should have used a different subject line. The post in question was about how some of the wet and dry thrust numbers of some of the MiG's DATA.ini files were miscalculated, or have transposed numbers.. or just off.. TK admitted that to at least some of them. Read the post at the link, please. sheesh. -
Instant Action
LordOliver posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Here is one.. Sometimes for practice I like to run the instant action scenario... but it gets old after a bit with just the F-4E... found the instantaction.ini in the missiondata.cat file in the flight folder... changed F-4E to F-104G.... yowzers!!!! that is tough.. Try some other fighters.. it is a hoot. First game got one MiG-21 with a heater... then outran the MiG-17;s out to sea to chase the IL-28's... Damned tailgunner shot my engine out! -

Loadout tutorial and question
LordOliver posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Has anyone posted a loadout tutorial anywhere? I am toying with the A-1H loadouts.. I have divided my weapon "StationGroup" in the DATA.ini to 5 total.. (the 3 most outward hardpoints as 1, 3 inner hardpoints as 2, the inner rack hardpoints as 3 and 4 for loading independantly, and the centerline rack as 5) This gives me a little more flexibility in loading packages. I have removed MER's and TER's and I have also added RCKT as a weapon type so I can carry HVAR's and changed the tanks from 300's to 200's (would also like to find a good comprehensive list of weapon types like RCKT, GP, RP, etc). The loads work great :) I have also been playing with the loadout.ini file and I have made some various loadouts based on mission types. When running a mission, however, my AI does not use the loadouts specified, and I still have to manually load each AI plane. Any idea what I am missing? As an example, here is a portion of my loadout file i tweaked (station 1,2,3,4,5,6 are one group; 7,8,9,10,11,12 are group 2; 13 is group 3; 14 is group 4 and 15 is group 5): // Station 1 = LeftWingStationOutboard1 // Station 2 = RightWingStationOutboard1 // Station 3 = LeftWingStationOutboard2 // Station 4 = RightWingStationOutboard2 // Station 5 = LeftWingStationOutboard3 // Station 6 = RightWingStationOutboard3 // Station 7 = LeftWingStationOutboard4 // Station 8 = RightWingStationOutboard4 // Station 9 = LeftWingStationOutboard5 // Station 10 = RightWingStationOutboard5 // Station 11 = LeftWingStationOutboard6 // Station 12 = RightWingStationOutboard6 // Station 13 = LeftWingStationInboard // Station 14 = RightWingStationInboard // Station 15 = CenterlineStation [AirToAir] Loadout[01].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[05].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[06].Quantity=1 [AirToAirLongRange] Loadout[01].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[05].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].WeaponType=AIM-9B Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=Tank200_F100 Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=Tank200_F100 Loadout[14].Quantity=1 [Attack] Loadout[01].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[01].Quantity=1 Loadout[02].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[02].Quantity=1 Loadout[03].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[03].Quantity=1 Loadout[04].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[04].Quantity=1 Loadout[05].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[05].Quantity=1 Loadout[06].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[06].Quantity=1 Loadout[07].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[07].Quantity=1 Loadout[08].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[08].Quantity=1 Loadout[09].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[09].Quantity=1 Loadout[10].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[10].Quantity=1 Loadout[11].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[11].Quantity=1 Loadout[12].WeaponType=HVAR Loadout[12].Quantity=1 Loadout[13].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[13].Quantity=1 Loadout[14].WeaponType=LAU-3A Loadout[14].Quantity=1... Loadout tutorial and question
LordOliver replied to LordOliver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Ya hey! Good sites... but that is not what I mean... I was getting at why don't my AI skyraiders pick up the proper loadout based on my loadout.ini file... they just come in unarmed unless i manually load each one... The idea behind a loadout file is that if they are doing a CAS mission... they would take the appropriate loadout based on the .ini file. -
How do you reinsert modified data?
LordOliver replied to Sledge's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
If you extracted the file to the same directory as the .cat file you got it from... you don't have to add it back into the .cat file in order for your mods to work. Just leave the extracted file in the same directory. The game will find and use the extracted file and it will take priority over the original that is still in the .cat file. edited: Just read this in the SimHQ forum about extracted aircraft data .ini files... from column5: "The aircraft-specific INI files go in the aircraft's folder. In other words, put the MiG-17s INI files in the the OBJECTSAIRCRAFTMiG-17F folder. [etc.]" -

The Red Wing Campaign is fun too... also don't forget to grab the drop tank mod for soviet fighters. This campaign assumes you have made the soviet planes flyable. If you haven't go to Marcfighters page and get his flyable Soviet planes :) http://home.att.net/~r.lee.sullivan/blackh...awk-island.html http://www.marcfighters.hpg.ig.com.br/index.htm# I've been having fun running the Su-7 campaign. -
