NATO Fighters III Released
WLJet replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
der_baer_fm, perhaps you would like to change the original loading.wav file in the flight folder to a favourite 5 minutes song or soundtrack. That may make the wait much more bearable if not enjoyable -
Uh Dave......

I bet those 2 life boats at the side are really supply ships! -
Bugged radar display in SU-15TM in SF-2
WLJet replied to MechaStalin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I noticed the radar display for Su-15TM hasn't been working properly since the SP4 patches (May to Aug 06 patches) for SPF1 came out let alone in SF2. Maybe it's about time the avionics.ini get fixed. I don't have SF2 but is the problem basically that the whole radar display is kinda "washed-out" and can't be read? -
Mig-21F13 vs Jianji-7II
WLJet replied to kreelin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks Erwin for the confirmation and also to F-16CJ for the additional info. It looks like someone or some group has made a F-7 Skybolt mod for MSFS 2004: http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=f7skybolt I think it would be cool if one day we could also have a comparable mod for the F-7M Airguard or F-7P for SFP1. -
Mig-21F13 vs Jianji-7II
WLJet replied to kreelin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Thanks for the info Erwin. So it sounds like the J-7II/F-7II can only be armed with 2 IR A-A missiles instead of 4, right? -
Mig-21F13 vs Jianji-7II
WLJet replied to kreelin's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
May I ask what's the difference between J-7II/F-7II and the F-7M Airguard? I read somewhere that PLAAF didn't use a domestic version of F-7M, is that correct? If so why? -
Point of Interest To the Thirdwire Community
WLJet replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi guys, I believe bug #2 has nothing to do with the mod. From what I can remember I seen that when I patched a clean WOE with the Oct 08 patch (or was that Sept 08 patch?) with hardly any mods. Just want to let the ODS modders know they have done an awesome job. True, it may not be perfect but which commercial or freeware flightsim has been flawless anyway? The beauty with an "imperfect" product is that there is still room for improvement, something it sounds like the ODS modders recognise and have some plans for future patches. In response to the critics I have nothing new to add as what's in my mind has already being covered by the previous posts. My basic response to overly negative critics is either they show they can do a better job than the ODS modders (in TW sims) or shut up. -
Flight of the Intruder
WLJet replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yup, I too enjoy the film since I first watched in 1991. That year I ended up owning all 3 versions - the novel, the PC sim by Rowan software (later makers of MiG Alley) and also the video. Because of the tension of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the built up of US forces in Operation Desert Shield, the film was not release for theatres but went straight to video instead. -
How to read the ODS F-14A HUD information
WLJet replied to sesamest's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sounds like a good idea to just post the README file. I'm sure many of us look forward to your update of the Harrier Campaign  P.S. I didn't saw Caesar's reply when I was writing my earlier post. So, I don't mean any disrespect to his detailed reply. -
How to read the ODS F-14A HUD information
WLJet replied to sesamest's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You may have to download the Harrier Campaign V2.0 made by JSF_Aggie: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=5390 Unzip the file and in the campaign readme pdf file, you'll find the latter half of it gives instruction on how to interpret the modern F-14A HUD and A-A radar that is present in ODS. The campaign itself was very well made by the way  . However if you are intending to install and play the campaign then please take note the campaign was created before WOI became available hence it was made for pre-Oct 08 patch. Hope this helps :) Cheers, WL -
Hi guys, I stumbled upon this forum. It appears to be some technical discussion on the avionics of the F-4s like the radars and RWR gears by former F-4 jocks. I thought it may interest some F-4 lovers out there  http://www.mombu.com/aviation/military-avi...-q-1172804.html

Strike Fighters Anime in the Works

The next Macross? Did you know as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Macross, Studio Nue/Big West aired the 'Macross Frontier' series from April 2008 to September 2008 in Japan? The setting for the story is in 2059 AD, 50 years after the start of the original Macross story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macross_Frontier Prior to Macross Frontier was OVA series released in 2002 - 2004 'Macross Zero' which is the prequel for the Macross story set in 2008 AD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macross_Zero -

A-4 vs A7 comparison/ opinions?
WLJet replied to Tecumseh's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually if you're flying the Mercs using SFP1/SFG for the campaign, you can have both within the same campaign. Just start off with one type and once accumulated enough money (or perhaps make adjustment to the amount of money you have at the start) buy the other type for your Mercs Wing. That way depending on the mission profile you can fly the A-4 if some dogfighting is expected or A-7 if more intensive bombing required. -
The Dhimar Conflict
WLJet replied to ShinKazama88's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It was only about a couple of weeks ago that I truly finish playing the original 1959 Burning Sand Campaign for the 1st time, despite owning SFG for more than 2 years. I flew the Mercs under "normal" campaign difficulty and "limited weapon" options in Oct 08 patch. With a mission success rate of about 100% (I took the typical "replay a failed mission until success" approach), the campaign ended on July 1973. Rambler 1-1 is right. You can download SFP1 manual from the download section of TW site. -

Also could someone post pics of all Skyhawk revamped pits? Could someone do the same for the F-4 pits especially the D and E variants? Thanks. -
Found a forum that discussed about installing Janes USAF in Windows XP x64: http://www.gulfknight.net/forum/printview....285&start=0 SimHQ's relook at the community mods for USAF: Out of the Mothballs: Jane’s USAF Revisited http://www.simhq.com/_air8/air_278a.html It was a similar 2nd look article like the above at SimHQ on SFP1 that got me excited enough to purchase SFG. The mods described in the article (Super Pro, MiniPro, COWAR, USAF Pure) can be found at this site: http://www.gulfknight.net/forum/dload.php But it seems it's no longer free. A download pass has to be purchased for download.

Until this forum, I wasn't aware there are folks out there not able to run Janes USAF with the updated 1.02F patch on XP. I assumed everyone didn't have much problem. I just realised maybe I got lucky. 4 years ago I bought a Toshiba notebook (now spoilt) that came with XP Professional SP2. Installed USAF with 1.02F patch and had not serious problem running it except the RWR function in 2D cockpit was screwed. That forced me to fly 3D cockpit most of the time until I found a patch that fixes the 2D RWR but ended up screwing the 3D RWR a bit. But by then I got used to flying the 3D cockpit. Apart from that I remember occasional hang on the main menu. Another feature that didn't work in XP was the UME mission planner. But ever since I bought SFG more than 2 years ago, I stopped playing USAF.

How do I update "Combat Over Israel"?
WLJet replied to matsu's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unlike the patch download pages in TW's site for rest of the titles, the one for WOI has this additional line: "Please note that this update is for Download version of Wings Over Israel only." I take that to mean that the upgrade patch is only applicable to the download version of WOI purchase directly from TW Online Store rather then the COI hardcopy... ...but I could be wrong. -
Adding Soviet Medals to Campaigns in SFG
WLJet replied to Gert's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Maybe you may like to take a look at this mod and add it to your SFG. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...mp;showfile=787 There are instructions in the mod on how to add them. Cheers, WL -
Have you guys seen this? The advert was popular in Asia a few years back when Pierce Brosnan was still James Bond in the movies.
