Snow Textures
joejoe replied to Speedbrake's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
try this http://www.81st-tfw.co.uk/index.php?page=downloads&cat=82 i downloaded a winter texture pack from a lomac fansite, but it went under. if the one i linked to sucks then maybe we can set up a file transfer of the older pack i have, its 45megs or so. -
for the terrain to look like more than a green and brown tarp, and maybe to supplement bushes and trees and such, perhaps you can use a bump mapped or normal mapped texture to give the earth a rocky appearance? perhaps some kind of 2d illusion painted in the terrain texture to give it a feel when your flying low that you could count the rocks and pebbles that are whizzing under you? heck, even a picture of grass could look awsome instead of rendering it in 3d. i think it would be interesting to have hydraulic fluid or oil seeping out of holes in the fuselage or wings when you get hit. hehe, and if you get hit in the gas tank have a trail of vapor or a trail of ignited fuel. as you can tell, i voted for graphics.

does it give you any errors when it crashes? when you say freeze, does it freeze the game but you can ctrl+alt+del out of it? or does it crash your whole computer?also, you may want to try using an earlier cat driver, make sure you have dx 9.0b updated windows... etc.

hello all, first i have to say excellent job on the work done so far. Ive been watching the videos and am eagerly awaiting a demo. anyways, as far as mission briefings go, i do not like the lomac style-read a page and go- type briefing. i do however like the USNAVY FIGHTERS full motion video briefings or even the medal of honor:allied assualt type briefing where there is a voice talking to you while you watch a projector screen fill you in on the important data. i feel that if you want an immersive game the player has to be prepped before they go out and actually play the game and the briefings i think are the best way to do it. the briefing and debreifing are the only parts of the game that a player doesnt actually play, he just experiences these moments, no matter how brief, and clicks continue to get back in the action. perhaps if it were possible for you to make these moments more cinematic and meaningful or even interesting enough for the player to sit through them, your product would be just that much better. at any rate, i hope you complete the game and are happy enough with it and that it meets your standards so that you have something youll be proud to be a part of. keep up the good work!

baco, your idea is just the kind of thing i want to see done for a briefing. anything that can give you bigger perspective of a mission is going to help, i was just using the FM video cutscene as an example. i know that there arent alot of resources to go around for things like actors for missions, and i definitly dont want to see a cutscene of an airplane flying between missions, so perhaps if it were possible to do short briefings consisting of maps and aerial photographs of the objectives or other data that may have been used at the time would be all thats needed to really put you in the experience. just as long as its not to wordy, hehe.

maybe try opening it in the editor and save-as or just save again? ill check out the mission tomm, heh, kinda late to play games right now. -
your monitor might be fine, if there were some kind of magnetic disturbance nearby it would make funny things happen to your monitor, like a speaker or a cell phone etc., if your monitor has a degauss button, the next time something happens just hit it (the degauss button i mean). as long as its some type of magnetic distubance it should fix it. if not then yeah, your monitor is dying.

US navy fighters had a little guy on the aircraft carrier with those light wands directing you to start engines, get ready to launch, etc.
