can't get Flyable RE8 to show up
hurricane3 replied to hurricane3's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
OK ,thanks ,meanwhile I'll keep trying and let you know if I have any luck. -
I downloaded the Flyable RE8 but can't get it to show in the aircraft list in the sim. It shows in the aircraft list in Windows Explorer but not in game. I backed up and renameed the oridinal RE8 ,but I first tried (after backing up to my documents) to just let it overwrite, that didn't work so I deleted the RE8 from the aircraft list in Internet Explorer and putting the RE8 folder into the aircraft list and same thing. What am I doing wrong?

Subject: Why Mr. Rogers wore a sweater? You Would Never Have Guessed Captain Kangaroo passed away on January 23, 2004 at age 76, which is odd, because he always looked to be 76. (DOB: 6/27/27 ) His death reminded me of the following story: Some people have been a bit offended that the actor, Lee Marvin, is buried in a grave alongside 3 and 4-star generals at Arlington National Cemetery His marker gives his name, rank (PVT) and service (USMC). Nothing else. Here's a guy who was only a famous movie star who served his time, why the heck does he rate burial with these guys? Well, following is the amazing answer: I always liked Lee Marvin, but didn't know the extent of his Corps experiences. In a time when many Hollywood stars served their country in the armed forces often in rear echelon posts where they were carefully protected, only to be trotted out to perform for the cameras in war bond promotions, Lee Marvin was a genuine hero. He won the Navy Cross at Iwo Jima. There is only one higher Naval award... the Medal of Honor! If that is a surprising comment on the true character of the man, he credits his sergeant with an even greater show of bravery. Dialog from "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson": His guest was Lee Marvin... Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima ..and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded." "Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting shot hauling you down. But, Johnny, at Iwo, I served under the bravest man I ever knew. We both got the Cross the same day, but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. That dumb guy actually stood up on Red Beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds landing everywhere and he stood there as the main target of gunfire so that he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men's safety was more important than his own life. That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me, lying on my belly on the litter and said, "Where'd they get you, Lee?" "Well Bob, if you make it home before me, tell Mom to sell the outhouse!" Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew. The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo." On another note, there was this wimpy little man that was on PBS (who passed away), gentle and quiet. Mr. Rogers is another of those you would least suspect of being anything but what he now portrays to our youth. But Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in Vietnam with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat. After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and therefore a pacifist. Vowing to never harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm. America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best. They earned our respect and the freedoms that we all enjoy. Look around and see if you can find one of those heroes in your midst. Often, they are the ones you'd least suspect, but would most like to have on your side if anything ever happened. Take the time to thank anyone that has fought for our freedom. With encouragement they could be the next Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers.

Sorry ,I should have checked my facts before passing this on,although at leat Lee Marvin was a wounded vet,the other two were heros in their own way to millions of kids.
-
I recently recieved an email concerning some unknown military heros that I would like to share with everyone at Combat Ace. How do I do this and what forum should I use?I would guess since this doesn't concern flight sims The Pub would be the foeum it should go to but am not sure. Thanks

I figured it out except fo sending the pics.Copy and paste the body of the email.

I'am making this a new post because I cant find an answer in any of the OFF knowledge base posts( I could have missed it) and if it hasn,t been addressed before maybe it could be made a sticky. What specs should a computer have to run OFF without frying the CPU etc. From what I've read, overheating is a big problem, and for my next computer what do I need short of stealing a Department of Defence mainframe?(jut kidding for any Feds who might read this).

Thanks Cameljockey, there is much to read and learn in the world of OFF.

Anyone else have this problem with FE?
hurricane3 replied to WarlordATF's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yes I' have the same problem. So don't feel alone -
I couldn't agree more with Junior Member,They take a beautiful sim and then screw it up by making you fly online? That means you can't shut off backround programs, which also means ,you'll have to have a buy a very fast computer to run it. I have games that have "Steam" and got rid of them because I couldn't shut off backround programs. This is very bad news for those of us looking forword to this sim but can't afford a new computer for a while yet. It won't be on my hardrive but "First Eagles' ,will.

After I had applied the new patch,I did a system restore to try and get back the wing insignia for the Spad 7 ,figuring that if I had to reapply the patch ,I could since I saved it to disk. Once the restore was done everything in the patch was still there(I checked it against the readme for the patch),but I still didn't have the Spad7 wing insiginia ,and the blue ID aircraft tags are gone . Every thing in the HUD is there and I can toggle it on and off,but no ID tags. Is there any way to get them back?I tried reappliyng the patch but it says that the sim is up to date and won't reinstall. Any ideas how to get the ID tags back?
-
Never mind my last post I just found out the blue and red tags are there in easy mode. What a dumbo head I am.Sorry.
-
Since applying the new patch(Nov,2008)I noticed the wing roundels on the Spad 7 are missing. The side insignia and tail stripes are there but the wing roundles are gone. So far this is the only plane that has lost it's insignia ,there may be other's as I haven't checked all of them.

I was just sitting here wondering , if somone comes out with a new plane and I download and install it can I lose my bombs? I've lost stuff before ,(rockets and gernades and most recently the Fokker DR1 when I tried to install new skins and the Voss mission.) Only way I got it back was do a system restore. I don't really have disk space to make a copy of the sym and experiment with that. I know someone is working on a Sopwith 1/1/2 strutter and Id like to have it but I'am afraid of loseing my bombs(their the only external ordnance I have left). I can't backup my weapons file cause I had to get rid of it to get my bombs back after another install. Someone here told me that that might force the sim to give me bombs and it worked. If there's any chance I'll lose something else I won't install it and be satisfied with what I have. thanks
-
Thanks for the reply but I'am not sure how to use the weapons editor ,think I better stick with what I have.

I was trying to load the Voss skin ,I added the lines to the config settings and there were no spaces between that and the last setting. When I went back into the sim the DR1 was gone. I went back to the config settings and deleted the lines so it was back to normal ,but even though the Dr1 shows in Windows explorer it doesn't show in the sim.HELP how do I get it back?
