Ah, of course! I got engrossed in the story, written in 1st person.

Sorry, Dagger, this isn't a go at you but I cannot comprehend American attitudes towards weaponry. You went to a gun shop to buy your wife a present? We read and here about this and think, "Bugger me!?" I can, however, understand the desire to make sure it works. Gutsy!

I'm curious about this 'climb out'. Aren't you, the pilot, in control of your climb angle and speed?

chaff and flare
csb replied to bingo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Glad it helped. And thanks for feedback, one of my must do's. And for anyone reading this, those two lines mentioned, SystemName=, can also be put at end of sequence of the [RightWing] and [LeftWing] sections. One wing gets flare and other gets chaff, doesn't matter which wing gets what. So be aware if you looking in data.ini for these, it could be in wing sections or fuselage. If your a/c ends up with bothit soesn't matter, it still works but you have double the amount. So, how many c&f do you or anyone else put on their jets? I find 8 of each is plenty - due to reasons posted in my first reply. -
Burning Sands 1983 campaign
csb replied to FooFighters's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I found that in one of my addon campaigns, one of the a/c entries had a typo (2 letters from name were missing), so the game didn't recognise the a/c type and it allocated an A4 Skyhawk instead. I did have A4's allocated in campaign bu not sure if game added one of them or a A4 model that wasn't allocated. I found this out because if I tried to fly the a/c (that had typo), wrong a/c would load at briefing. So check for typo's inc whether - dash or _underline. PS I checked your ini and a/c spellings are consistent. -
Placing SAM radar and launchers
csb posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just some Q's to understand SAM Launchers and Radar. Is a SAM network built AND COMMUNICATING just because a Radar is surrounded by some launchers? Do all SAMs work with any radar? What is max distance for placement of launchers from radar? What is max number of launchers per radar? In the Israel_targets.ini (as an example), the author has listed the sam's in a general manner ie; Target[001].Type=SAMRadar Target[002].Type=SAMLauncher Does this mean that game chooses what models the actual units will be? It seems to randomly allocate(with consideration of year availability) SAM radar's and launchers; so I have single, double, triple & quad launchers around a single radar. This is all ok, I just want to understand this. I am adjusting the MiddleEastWars campaign pack, by Johan217 and need to decrease the number of SAMs. So I will delete some and some will be replaced with AA. His YomKippur campaign is fantastic. -
Placing SAM radar and launchers
csb replied to csb's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No probs with any SAMs just reducing them. Don't wnat to change airdefences to normal, cause I still want all the AA. I said that the Yom Kippur is great but there are many typo's that have left a/c without ordinance and other stuff, including the campaign.ini. Actually, if you read this Johan, you can pm me or start a thread. I have had to spend many hours fixing errors. A fully enjoyable campaign. My #1. -
chaff and flare
csb replied to bingo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Apparently, these were originally modelled for the sim, then before game release TK and his team found out the a/c at the time didn't have them. Thankfully we are still able to take advantage of their error. Thanks TK. As Buff said, very easy to add c&f. See down below for required small edits you need to do. I've added them to all my F4's and to Mirage, you can even decide how many to have. In the MiddleEastWars campaign I added an Egyptian Airforce F-4E, with c&f (found an Egypt skin here(?)). Very tough opponents and with radar guided missiles. Now I need to watch for incomng from all sides not just rear. Thanks to trusty RWR and my squadron "He's just fired a missile!" But then a few issues arose: Having a phantom as adversary with lots of c&f made it difficult to shoot down. So I changed the quantities of c&f to 8 of each, for all jets including own side. This keeps the challenge up without being to hard. Also with too many Chaff there was no reason to fly low in SAM territory. Now it means I still need to use avoidance tactics; fly low, dodge, etc. I have too conserve my countermeasures. With too many c&f I could just hit the dispense key any time so the challenge went right down. I found this edit in a forum, maybe here. Copy it to a notepad. . How To Add Chaff & Flares . Add to end of sequence in [Fuselage] section take note to follow number sequence [0xx] SystemName[0xx]=Flare_Station SystemName[0xy]=Chaff_Station . Add this after Weapon station section and before Fuel Tanks section, don't add bracket comments ( ) .(Phantoms) [Flare_Station] SystemType=DECOY_DISPENSER EjectPosition= 2.052,0.959,-1.083 EjectVelocity=0.0,-5.0,-1.0 NumFlare=30 [Chaff_Station] SystemType=DECOY_DISPENSER EjectPosition= -2.052,0.959,-1.083 EjectVelocity=0.0,-5.0,-1.0 NumChaff=30 .(Mirage) [Flare_Station] SystemType=DECOY_DISPENSER EjectPosition= 0.552,-3.000,-1.000 EjectVelocity=0.0,-5.0,-1.0 NumFlare=30 [Chaff_Station] SystemType=DECOY_DISPENSER EjectPosition= -0.552,-3.000,-1.000 EjectVelocity=0.0,-5.0,-1.0 NumChaff=30 . Change the Num to any quantity you like. You can add to other types a/c by playing with the EjectPosition=x,y,z values. x = -Left +right y = +forward -back z = +up -down Notice that -/+ values can be used. -

mi-24 chopper causes CTD
csb posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ever since I have had this addon it seems to cause ctd but on an irregular basis. In a mission, game sometimes crashes when I use next object key, to look at various a/c, and I look at th mi-24. Game doesn't crash straight away but just before the mi-24 appears on screen. And this doesn't happen always, perhaps 50% of time. Game also seems to crash every now and then (reason unknown) when the mi24 is installed, ie mi-24 folder in aircraft folder. This is a required addon for Middle East Wars campaign and only used here. To the modders of this chopper - Why is there a mi-24 cockpit.ini (main mi-24 folder) and also AH-1G cockpit.ini in the cockpit folder? The included readme notes these two files. Should the mi24 cockpit ini be in cockpit folder? Is the AH-1G cockpit ini needed? Frustration. In an earlier post I had modded the sound file but this is not the cause of problem - problem seems to have been since chopper has been installed. -

Weapons Pack with Strike Fighters Gold trouble
csb replied to Voyager's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I have the Gold, latest patch and installed W'Pack July with no problems. Are you installing it to your main Strike Fighters folder, not to weapons folder nor objects. Also, I seem to remember that the WPack added/doubled up some ini files into the weapons folder that were already in the objects main folder. I cleaned my objects folder of old ini files that had been doubled up after WPack install. Notably weapons_data.ini - so I had old weapons_data.ini(from game install?) in objects folder and new one in weapons folder. I deleted old data.ini (and there may have been others that were doubled) because I didn't know which the game would read). So maybe there is confict if game is reading old weapons-data.ini. Also check if the weapondata.dat is probably doubled. This seems to happen because the game doesn't actually create a weapons folder. AND A TIP: after fresh install of game - update to latest patch level - make a copy of patched game and put it wherever you keep all your addon zips. Then you can check what changes have been made when you add mods/addons that cause problems. -
File Name: MI-24 Sound File Submitter: csb File Submitted: 10 Oct 2006 File Category: SF Sound Mods This sound file is a beefier version of the file that comes with mi-24 from combatace. It is the same file but has been adjusted in WinXP Sound Recorder - used effects option to slow sound speed by 100%. Thanks to Capun, Charles & Kesselbrut. You can use the Sound Recorder to enhance any sound file to make it louder, meaner - try adding echo to afterburners. Click here to download this file

Mi-24 sound - Give it Beef
csb posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I downloaded the MI-24 this year and the sound file that comes with it doesn't match the caliber of this chopper (in real-life nor for this computer model) This may be due to a download glitch or my pc, but the sound was toyish - like a tin wind-up toy. I opened the chopper's sound file with WinXP Sound Recorder and used effects option to slow the sound down and now it's alot beefier. If you try this, just one click is enough. I have used Sound Recorder for many sounds in SF and even added echo to the afterburners - really helps the roar. I found this tip in the pdf with the weapons packs - thanks Bunyap! Apologies to Capun, Kesselbrut & Co, this is not meant as a diss to your work. Very impressive to have the Hind in the MidEast campaign. Oh, and get yourselves some decent speakers with a bass box! You won't regret it.
