The reason I always say to fly in QC is that even though it looks like a good install, try it and make sure. You're already there, and if you have no problems, then proceed with OFF. If you develop some sort of problem with the OFF install, you know it wasn't from CFS3. plug_nickel

We'll be circling. You have the ball. plug_nickel

Take a look here for starters: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/56090-windows-7-problems/ If you didn't play CFS3 at all, then a couple of files that OFF needs for install were not created. You need to at least go into CFS3 QC and fly around a little, just mess around then exit. Then install OFF. If you uninstall OFF, you'll need to delete said files in Docs and Appdata as well. plug_nickel since you had no initial problems with CFS3, It looks to be as Unclean has pointed out about configuring OFF.

I certainly understand, and hope you don't. I fly RoF as well, but for the simulator experience and because it's no longer tied to an online requirement. I tried the WoP demo but until I can use offline, I'll pass. Water damage: floods? Our house came within 20 some inches of being flooded last Sept. It's an experience I never, ever want to go through again. And my motto, never leave a wing man in trouble (it's not my call). plug_nickel

Welcome to the forum! Sorry you're having problems. OFF,BHaH and the newer HiTR upgrade run in XP32/64 and W7 without any problems. There is a rather specific install procedure for CFS3 depending if you have the 2-CD disc pack or the DVD. There's also a correct way to uninstall OFF and CFS3 which if not followed, will lead to endless problems. I'm running W7-64_Ult and find the experience even better than XP32 or 64, IMHO. Question; when you first installed CFS3 and patched it to 3.1, did you experience any problems running CFS3? plug_nickel

Also take a look at this program. The Pro version is purchased, but the free version is very, very good. Think of it as Belarc on steroids. Get them both and compare; nothing to lose at all. I've been using it for several years. http://www.gtopala.com/ plug_nickel

For those of you not familiar with some of the neater things W7 has, psr.exe is a simple recorder that can take screen shots of procedures one does and the steps taken trying to solve a problem. For various gaming problems, it's invaluable. Here's a better info site: http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090111/windows-7-problem-steps-recorder-miracle-tool/ plug_nickel

I'd bet my last dollar that it has to do with something in Admin and Appdata. plug_nickel

Ras, Would you please take a look at this site for info on psr.exe and record your uninstalling of CFS3 and send it to me. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/using-problem-steps-recorder-psr-windows-7/ plug_nickel I simply can't believe that you're the only one not able to run CFS3 on W7

Ok Ras, here we go. PLEASE let me know if you have any concerns about going into the registry. 1) Uninstall CFS3 using CFS3 CD; > = Go to... > Documents and delete CFS3 folder; The next step depends if your Admin location is primary with a you as secondary or just the opposite. I'm the Admin so my entries are Admin (secondary) then ALMJr which is the primary. Another way to tell is too look for the logo on the folder (outline of head and shoulders). Admin will always be listed first. > C: Users > Primary > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft and delete CFS3 folder < Go back to screen with AppData listed first > My Documents and delete CfS3 folder if showing. You might have two My Docs showing: check both. Uninstall is now clean. Reboot I can't get Notepad to paste here so I'm sending reg entries as a message with explanations. Reboot Reinstall CFS3, do not run. Patch to 3.1 and reboot. Use Disc-2 to start and run CFS3. Go to QC and fly around, shoot guns, etc, then quit. You're now ready to install OFF, patches, HiTR and updates. plug_nickel

Ok. Time for the "nuclear option". Give me a little while to verify all the CFS3 keys in the registry. I've got ETO, PTO, KATS and MAW all loaded so I need to id the proper entries and L.M. tags to delete. Then "we'll" check on the uninstall including Docs and User entries and try this one more time. There ISN'T a problem running CFS3 in W7 and I know you're frustrated reading this from various people. Somewhere along the line, something obvious is being missed and I believe it's during the uninstall and cleanup process. CFS3 is very finicky as to what files must be deleted and what reg entries can stay and be properly overwritten. So lets eliminate them all and do a complete clean install. Starting recon now. plug_nickel

That's correct. The Redistributable version is the one to use, not the SDK. As to why some Dx9 files are installed and others aren't, even MS support wasn't able to answer that question. It seems that there are 3 very critical .dll's that are left out, one of them being a direct3 file that CFS3 must have. I suspect it's in relation to gpu driver support and dropping legacy. plug_nickel
-
Simply installing Dx10/11 doesn't install other .dll files "older" games need. MS doesn't want to extend legacy support since most vc vendors have stopped writing drivers that include the necessary support for "older" Dx7/8/9 games. So depending on the driver/dx mix, you may or may not have all the necessary support files needed. At least with Dx the remedy is easy; simply install the last redistributable for that series, i.e., Dx9.0c. There's no conflict what so ever. Drivers are another matter. So far, I've been able to get some older XP64 and Vista64 Nvidia drivers to run properly under W7-64 while in compatibility mode. The flexibility of W7 is really outstanding IMO. I'm currently experimenting with FF5 and various XP/Vista drivers seeing just current and uncorrupted I can get. It's a real pita though. When the OS crashes under these circumstances, you can put a fork in it. A full clean reinstall is required before proceeding to the next trial driver. plug_nickel
-
Simply install it. It will not interfere with Dx10/11. It'll install in it's own folder and will have the .dll's CFS3 is needing. plug_nickel ps, I've kept all my Dx's from 7 on just in case and have them all installed without any problems what so ever. Some of my "older" games need 8 or 9 when running in compatibility mode.

Hey Ras, Sorry to see you having problems. I'm running W7-64_Ult and it is better than XP_32/64 IMO. How, or what procedures did you use to uninstall and clean besides CC? Did you remove entry from Documents and also from Users/Roaming? These two areas are "normally" missed by most uninstallers/cleaners. You shouldn't have to run regedit since those entries will be properly overwritten. You will also need Directx 9.0C Redistributable; there's a .dll file that's not installed with Dx10/11 that CFS3 looks for. You don't need to rename the shortcut, just run compatibility XP SP3 and as Admin., but you must do a clean install, as you already know. I'll be circling. plug_nickel

Lou, Very nice S.A., especially when inverted. I know you didn't mean to "crank" her that hard, but your "aerobatics" added just the right amount of panache. plug_nickel -

Unless you're going to "mod" the HAF 922, I'd go with the CM 690 Advanced II. It's complete with filters for all mesh areas, unlike the HAF 922. You don't want a lot of dust mixing with your kite's oil. I'm in the process of modding my new HAF 932 and the side mesh panel has been an interesting challenge. plug_nickel -

The control points are added by modifying the xml file. I have five additional points so that I can have another deadzone when viewing F-16 MFD's and the A-10's MFD when selecting a target for the maverick. There's a thread from another mate on the site that added two more control points and he posted the profile. I'll see if I can find it. With mine, you have to expand the view completely in order to see all of the points and their locations. Not as easy to tweak or setup. Glasses...lol...I just stopped using them when I fly. Thank goodness for 24" flat panel glass. plug_nickel (Al) -
TrackIR - Image tearing at monitor edges
almccoyjr replied to Over50's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The speed setting has nothing to do with the physical viewing angles or perspective. It has to do with responsiveness, or how fast the software interprets physical movement and translates that input into pov location on the screen. In electrical terms, think of the speed setting as gain. It affects all three axes simultaneously. The higher the speed setting, the faster the response. How you have your control points setup, their spacing and their "angle" (straight line or curving up or down)introduces acceleration which will be additive the overall response. As this movement and its interpretation is translated, the redraw between the vc and the TIR interact and this will cause tearing. I have added extra control points to the axes allowing me to really fine tune both the acceleration of panning and the degree of view. I personally don't like the act of physically looking over my shoulder, so I've limited the pov to about 4:30. When I want to see what's behind/left or right of me, I use the castle switch on my Cougar for that function. About 5 cents worth. plug_nickel (Al) -

One other "thing" you can try is different speed settings in the TIR5 software. Default setting is 1, try taking it down to .8 Usually smoothing at 30 is fine, but you may also want to try a setting of 25-27. The TIR5 has better physical resolution than the 4 model and the software capitalizes on that. I think the default speed of 1 may be to high, IMO. plug_nickel (Al) -

To all the squad mates in Tennessee and Kentucky: I hope all is well with regard to the flooding. It looks even worse there than what I went through here last September. plug_nickel (Al)

By all means, upgrade to the TIR5 software. Stay away from the betas. I've run the 5 software using TIR4 hardware under both XP PRO_32/64 with no problems what so ever. The response and smoother transitions are noticeable. plug_nickel (Al)
