That "other WW1 flight sim"
almccoyjr replied to Davy TASB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Make sure Core=Normal and EMS=False You may also have to play around with the cycles. plug_nickel (Al) -
I took MS using the term "God Mode" as tongue-in-cheek more than anything else: after all, they are out of the flight sim business. plug_nickel (Al)

I just downloaded the demo yesterday. I haven't had a chance to run it. I'm running the RoF demo and have mixed thoughts about it. Eye Candy alone does not a "good" sim/game make. I'm glad some vendors are releasing "substantial" demos and not small 2-400mb "trailers" that leave you guessing. OFF_P2 was a HUGE "demo" that lead to a TREMENDOUS sim/"game" (have to placate Olham). plug_nickel (Al)

??? They, MS, can call it whatever they like as can anyone else. I "called" the file "Finally!" You can do that with any key in the hives. The key {****} is what's important. I have about 25 of the "major" functions working via voice recognition. I have 16 more to go and I'll be satisfied for the moment. It would have taken me "forever" to bring up all those functions and trace their keys. plug_nickel (Al)

Since the same registry keys are being used, why wouldn't it be possible to do the "registry dance" like it's done when running FF5 and Open Falcon from the Falcon 4.0 install? Interesting idea. plug_nickel (Al)

I migrated from XP_64 to W7 Ult_64 and have noticed a change in the frequencies I can now assign. I don't know if this change is affected by the driver or the OS. I was hoping someone might be able to chime in. Under XP_64 using 182.67 WHQL 64, I was able to run 1920 X 1200 @75hz. That's the "sweet spot" Sony documents for my GDM-FW900 24"glass monitor. When I went to W7, I went with 191.07 WHQL 64 and noticed that the available frequencies I had were less. I could run 75hz but nothing lower should I want to. So I tried 195.62 WHQL 7/Vista 64 and now can only run 1920 X 1200 @85hz! Now that's hot; much more heat coming out of the vents. If anyone is running XP32 or 64 and the 195.62 driver, please let me know what range of frequencies you have to choose from. If this is driver driven, I'm going to have to go back down to 182.67. I swear I can see "shimmering waves" behind my monitor! Thanks. plug_nickel (Al)

OT.........W7 and Nvidia Drivers

It has been FOREVER since I've had to force a frequency change. I took a closer at the documentation and found that their "nominal" rating for an analog monitor is 85hz.....bull^#%#$%. Same person or people that wrote that were probably also the ones that "borked" 8-bit support. No big deal; just really annoying. plug_nickel (Al) -

Thanks. I'll take a look. The resolution isn't the problem, It's the frequency I'm being forced to use without any options initially given. I'll see if I can force a frequency change. plug_nickel (Al) -
No CFS3-CD hack & wmp.dll error (!)
almccoyjr replied to Bandy's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
I misspoke about freeware programs being available to "circumvent" copy protection. I was using much older file information I had stored from years long ago. You'll have to use payware apps and I.D. the type of C.P. the disc employs. Those programs are LEGALLY available. I use such and for the following reason: to protect my investment for which I legally paid for. The wear and tear and possible damage resulting from the continual handling of cd/dvd is just to great and is not acceptable. I run CFS3 from file combined from both discs. When I want to play CFS3, I simply mount my D2 ISO in the V-CD/DVD drive and then start CFS3 from my desktop shortcut. No muss, no fuss, no possible damage and I'm not circumventing anything but the physical handling of the disc. If I don't mount CFS3 Disc2 ISO the game will not run, period. I installed BHaH/HiTR the same and unless CFS3 Disc2 ISO is not preloaded in the V-CD/DVD drive, BhaH/HiTR will not run either. I hope this doesn't open up a "can of worms". That wasn't the intent. I don't use "no-cd cracks"; I don't want to use any .exe hacked file that some unknown has coded. If any game needs cd/dvd to start, then I mount an ISO image of the required disc or I don't play it. Please feel free to delete this post if needs be. My 5 cents worth. plug_nickel (Al) -
Slipstream the XP/SP2 with your hardware drivers and make it an unattended install. You can also have SP3 loaded in a file on the same disc so when everything is installed, you won't have to go anywhere for it. Check out Bart or google "slipstream xp sp2". There are a bunch of guides and how-to. What's nice is that should your new install crap out in the future, everything will be on one disc to do a complete, new reinstall. My 5 cents worth. plug_nickel (Al)

You're not being "naughty", just practical. There are several freeware programs that will setup a virtual cd/dvd. Copy disc2 and mount the iso. Now MS is being NAUGHTY to tell us that their Microsoft Security Essentials "protects" from ^%%$^$. And pigs fly. plug_nickel (Al) -
Look what I found when searching USB testing for W7: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd450454.aspx I didn't now anything like this existed. I need to do more "surfing". plug_nickel (Al)

Cross-wind, Wind sock and Hotbar/Flight Sim X
almccoyjr replied to GeorgeBoles's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
hahahahahaha...brings back my days when Doom first came out. I did get sick after being in those corridors for any length of time. Take the TIR slow and you'll be ok; just need to get used to it. Might take several days or a couple of weeks. Just remember to lean and look over the side of your cockpit when you feel the "urge" coming on. You don't want to leave a mess for the mechanics to clean up. plug_nickel (Al) -
Be sure you get a regulated "brick" with at least 1.5 amps for 2-port or 2.5 amps for a 4-port. That will give you 500ma per port and because of the "little" extra amperage rating, you won't have to be concerned about any excessive heat being generated. Also see if if the USB adapter has built in L.E.D.'s or lights showing power into the hub and power to the devices. It'll make troubleshooting much easier when the inevitable time comes. plug_nickel (Al)

Look here for VC information: http://forum.combatace.com/topic/51300-virtual-cockpit/ You'll need a Trackir4, 5 or something like Free Track to be able to "pan around" from within the cockpit. You can use Notepad to edit the files. plug_nickel (Al)

Ditto here too! Running W7 Ult_64 plug_nickel (Al)

One way to eliminate the problem for good is to use a USB powered hub with a regulated brick. TIR4 uses 237ma, it's a hog and that's almost half of the power available from one USB port. I went that route years ago and haven't experienced any problems. my 5 cents worth. plug_nickle (Al)

Greetings Luther1517. Glad to see someone else still flies CFS3, its add-ons and especially Korean Skies. Love anything with F-86's and Mig-15's, even if they do have only one wing and a new contraption called a "jet engine?": lots of small blades turning inside instead of one outside. Happy hunting. plug_nickel(Al)

I just migrated from XP64 to W7 Ultimate 64 and it runs great. Along with Parky: it runs "better" than on both XP32/64. Merry Christmas! plug_nickel (Al)

I don't "see" your log file. It's not your oc. More likely the improper skin id(s). If the skin(s) in question are accessible to the time period of the campaign, they can cause problems, even if they aren't selected. I found this out a long time ago. If you decide to do a reinstall, follow the posted procedures AND THEN run regedit, search for entries "OBD" and "Over Flanders Fields" and delete them. You'll have a clean slate to start from again. plug_nickel (Al)

Hat in the Ring looks great but....

It's more of a temperature issue. I run a GDM-FW900 @ 1920 x 1200 70hz. The mfg said that was the "sweet" spot balancing resolution, frequency and heat. The higher the frequency, the hotter your monitor will get. I don't know if this applies to lcd's, but it's a definite consideration for glass. The "hz" in particular affects the refresh rate. All glass I've seen do not rate their product below 60hz. And believe it or not, many people will get sick or nauseous when viewing a monitor at 60hz over a period of time. See if the mfg of your rig has a recommendation. plug_nickel (Al) -

What questions do you ponder? My first question is related to the discussion on the climate: If all the sponges in the ocean were to die, would the level of the world's oceans rise dramatically? The other revolves around escalating prices: How can a funeral home/mortuary raise their prices and cite the cost of living as the reason? plug_nickel (Al)

Along those lines I sometimes wonder, when I stand up, where does my lap go? One of the better ones I've read is, "Why do they say the alarm is going off when obviously it's on and working." And for the musicians: When Jimmy cracks corn and I don't care, why would anyone write a song about it? plug_nickel (Al)
