  1. A Story For The Season

"hear hear" Most eloquent. plug_nickel (Al)
  2. OT....Important Questions

We know what the speed of light is; then what is the speed of dark? OOHH...my head just...BOOM
  3. OT....Important Questions

And just how did "Reading, writing and 'rithmatic" become known as the 3 R's? My head is starting to hurt. plug_nickel (Al)
  4. OT....Important Questions

Another one that has kept me up at night: How do you know when a word is misspelled in the dictionary? plug_nickel (Al)
  5. Buy not available

You left one category off the list: Camping out. plug_nickel (Al)
  6. xplane 9

I fly FSX when I go on leave from OFF. I use your excellent Pilot's Map along with as many scenery files that I can find that show the locations of where OFF members live. It's another type of campaign I've embarked on. plug_nickel (Al)
  7. Snow on the Bayou AGAIN

Now that's what I'm talking about! Fond memories because I don't have to shovel that stuff anymore. Pleasure to "meet" you. plug nickel (Al)
  8. First Impressions

Don't drink and slide. That white "stuff" wasn't D.T. induced. plug_nickel (Al)
  9. xplane 9

A friend gave me X-Plane 9 back in January, but I haven't installed it. I've got so many add-ons for FSX that I'm still trying out. Go to XPlane.org; they've got a good pro/con topic. I'm just not into "ultra" fm realism right now. plug_nickel (Al)
  10. Advised by disk to reinstall

I've been using XP64 for a while now, and except for an occasional program compatibility issue, the OS hasn't crashed. Best OS since W2KPro or the "modded" W98SE Beta 5 IMO.
  11. First Impressions

Welcome. Not a serious drinker and I stopped the "meds" back in '72 after college. "Thinking is the best way to travel," and my current Spad "bursts forth with the power of ten billion butterfly sneezes". plug_nickel (Al)
  12. OT: Inbound !

Now that's a GREAT CHRISTMAS PRESENT! Congrats... plug_nickel (Al)
  13. Snow on the Bayou AGAIN

I went into your profile to take a better look at the pic; son of a gun. It's been so long since I've "seen" the area, I had to go to Google maps. I miss the first snow fall; but God not the rest that followed. I hated chopping the ice around the car tires. plug_nickel (Al)
  14. Snow on the Bayou AGAIN

Google Atlanta Snow Storm 1993. Mid March, 1993, "we" had what is commonly known up in the N.E as a nor-easter here in GA. My wife and I were living in the Braswell Mtn. area at that time; about 35-40 miles W.N.W. of where we are now. The blizzard dumped 4ft of snow where we were. Good sledding, skiing, snow ballin' hard pack type of snow. If I hadn't had the flu at the time, I would have really enjoyed it. plug_nickel (Al)
  15. Snow on the Bayou AGAIN

hahahahahaha...rotfl. Before my Dad retired in '65, the longest time I'd ever lived in any one place, apprx 6yrs, was at Westover A.F.B., just outside of Chicopee, MA. Hey S_D. If I remember correctly, that's a "dusting". plug_nickel (Al)
  16. Win7 Pro 64 bit

You actually don't need all 24GB, but I'd like to "dump" the whole program into the kernel. Thanks for the link! I've tried the earlier version when it first came out, but not since. I think I'll take a gander and see what's up. plug_nickel (Al)
  17. Quick Install question

OFF-BHaH will pull the data it needs from the CFS3 install. It will not affect any of the CFS3 files. After OFF-BHaH installs, the OFF program will be on C drive under OBD. Good luck over the front. plug_nickel (Al)
  18. usb devices getting quirky

S_D; This is easier: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427 You want to examine or do a search in the Application and System logs. plug_nickel (Al)
  19. Win7 Pro 64 bit

Tamper, on 01 December 2009 - 09:02 AM, said: "I doubt, for instance, a 'typical' desktop machine of today with a 64-bit OS would benefit much from anything beyond 8G - and certainly not in proportion to the added cost." AH! We're not typical though. We fly BHaH and demand the very best. XP64 can fully support 128GB and W7, 192GB. Von Paulus Posted Today, 02:29 PM: "I might be wrong but RAM will be the key." I don't think you're wrong. I think you nailed it. The point is to get the sim to run flawlessly and to do that, ram is the key, not pulling data from page file, MFD or "waiting" for the v_c buffer to flush and fetch texures. Awhile ago, I ran a test to see how BHaH would run in a VRD environment. OvS "knew" it wouldn't be successful, but that was then. Since that endeavor, I've gone to XP64, 8GB of G.Skill PC-6400 now at 4-3-4-9 2T and have "dumped" programs up 4GB in size into the VRD and the results are absolutely astonishing. The program and v_c memory reside in the VRD kernal. There's no data pulled from the hd. To get BHaH to run like that would require at least 24GB of ram. On a board that supports it, that's six 4GB modules. That is doable >IF< DDR2 pricing goes down. I haven't even looked at triple channel! What I'm hoping is that SSD technology really takes off and some of that will spin into DDR2 pricing, however; I do understand the economics and that's unlikely from a manufacturing standpoint. And that's my .05 cents...lol plug_nickel (Al)
  20. One thing I missed about RB3D

Hey! I use Mozilla Firefox, not ie; the vid works for me. Are you spraying Agent Orange? plug_nickel (Al)
  21. usb devices getting quirky

S_D; In the Event log, see if there are any entries that have an EMT tag with the joystick/TIR4 and if there are any entries that tag "root directory/windows/sys64_32 branch" or something similar with "sys64_32 branch". plug_nickel (Al)
  22. usb devices getting quirky

Hey S_D; Me thinks you're getting ready to head down the same road once traveled before: deja-vu. plug_nickel (Al)
  23. Poll: WinXP vs Win7

From what I've read about W7 PRO, I'll be migrating to it but not before MS has released the first service patch. plug_nickel (Al)
  24. usb devices getting quirky

?? Thinking back to the problem you had earlier with your system. Can you be more specific about "the light". plug_nickel (Al)
  25. OT..Sorry, it's another Jet Video :)

The "tick marks" you see aren't on the F-86 canopy itself, but a projection on a glass screen. The F-86 Mark-18 gunsight was a design change from the K-14 used in the P-51. The pilot could adjust the "tick marks" by turning a selector knob aligning the distance between the marks to roughly equal the wingspan of the enemy aircraft they were up against. The wingspan on a M-15 was 33' and when the Mig's wings were within the "ticks", you had a good firing solution and convergence (simplified operating instructions). plug_nickel (Al)
