Using a registry cleaner is a last resort when everything thing else tried doesn't work, including manual edits. A program called RegCure looks to be the best out there according to "geek" reviews. I've been using a small, simple program called RegVac for many years and revisions.I primarily use it to "pack" or defrag the registry every other month or before I do a system archive to boot from USB hd. plug_nickel (AL)

usb devices getting quirky

Do you unplug/plug your controllers in a lot and if so, into the same ports or are they stationary? plug_nickel (Al) -
Now TrackIr doesn't spot OFF as a game

Do not use any old Version 4 betas or any of the first 5.0 betas that came out. For V4 use the 4.1.037 Final B and for V5 software, use only the 5.0 Final B. V5 Final B really improves the performance of the TIR4 PRO. I'd go with it per Von Paulus. plug_nickel (Al) -
429 is a registry error. One of the more common causes are overlapping program installs/bad or incomplete uninstalls. What version of XP are you using and what service pack? Sometimes a service pack upgrade will do the trick. Otherwise, you'll either have to go into the registry >CAREFULLY< to eliminate it or just live with the message. There are some good registry cleaners that are payware, but you still have to be very careful when using one. I haven't found a decent one that's freeware. Question; have you ever gone into the registry to execute a search? plug_nickel (Al)

Climate change has been going on 24/7/+4 billion years. Currently, "we" call it the seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. Where I live we're experiencing a cooling down period right now. Sometime next year, we'll experience a warming period. There will be periods of rain and periods of dry AND as always, the mileage will very. plug_nickel (Al) ps, please note I'm hoping everyone in the flood areas are ok; my experience is still to fresh.

HAT IN THE RING! : Web update

To make room on my backup hd, I've been using MS Skydrive since "we" use IM between branches and corporate office. Setup is simple, free and you can "lock" the folder(s). It has 25GB of space and since it's MS, I hope they'll be around for awhile. Just a possible alternative. plug_nickel (Al) -
Making distance and deflection shots
almccoyjr replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Please, count me in as well. I'd like to "screw around" with the effects to maintain tracers up to distance, but not be able to see impacts from a distance. The tracers would only be an indication of direction at distance. Up close, seeing the the tracers to target and visually seeing the impacts would be more realistic for me. Excellent post Creaghorn! -
Setting CPU affinity manually

Maybe this post will help. Some were having campaign or ctd's with AMD duals. http://forum.combatace.com/topic/37842-drop-to-desktop/ plug_nickel (Al) -
If you can swing it, I'd look at the GTX 260 SP 216 card. It'll give you a major increase over the 8500 and will have a much longer gaming life than a 9800. You could even keep the 8500 and use it as a dedicated PHYS-X card,if you have 2 slots, but I'm not sure what kind of mileage you'll get with 256mb of memory. Are you running a 32bit or 64 OS? If 64, then an additional 2GB will also improve your overall performance, but only after you've addressed the video card. You may also want to investigate what is running in the background to free up resources taking as much load off of the cpu as possible. plug_nickel (Al)

Right genre; wrong era. All you have to do now is position the gun to fire cleanly and load it with Aerosoft pellets and then go chase a "friend". plug_nickel (Al) -
One other thing I've done is to put a lamp using a 60watt bulb on the top ledge of my computer desk. It sits above and behind my monitor with the TIR. The lamp shade is long enough so that the bulb is not seen when I'm sitting at the desk. I've noticed a definite difference in response when the light is off or on. The "glow" helps to make the reflectors a better target for the transmitter to pickup. At least it works for me. Mileage may very though. plug_nickel (Al)

I use TIR4 with the 5 software. Go to Titles and highlight CFS3 and leave it at default. Then go to Profiles and that will open up a screen to make adjustments. From there you can tile down the different stock templates. You'll seen the points in the center and also well as those adjacent to them. These points can be modified. I've "opened up" the center points a bit and have also raised them for a more precise deadzone, among other things. The 5 software is much better than the 4. The resolution and responses between the 2 are different. The TIR5 is more precise and immediate. That's why I'm more aggressive in my settings. I've also "modded" my hat clips with different reflective tape and larger, curved area for the transmitter to "see" better. Maybe Homboy can chime in on the differences. You'll need to "play" with them a bit to get the right feel and look. Save the mod as BHaH, OFF or? in order to use them again in the sim. plug_nickel (Al)

Upgrade question - CPU & graphics card
almccoyjr replied to Crockett12's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
I don't know what the file transfer rate is for Vista or the W7 versions, but generally it pretty much sucked no matter what OS you're using. Try out TeraCopy: http://www.codesector.com/teracopy.php I'm running XP64 with 8GB of ram and my file transfers now average 25-55mbs, depending on type of file, to my external hd. It'll also pinpoint a bad or problematic sector on a cd-dvd and try to reconstruct in order to copy. plug_nickel (Al) -
Upgrade question - CPU & graphics card
almccoyjr replied to Crockett12's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
That's very good to hear. One of the "major" problems was FFB support, but I believe that was due to to the beta releases. I'll be switching to W7PRO after the first service patch is released. Until then, I'm still using XP64. plug_nickel (Al) -
I offered in OFF forum, but had no takers. So I'm offering to Combatace forum members. 2GB of G.Skill F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK. The specs are below. I don't use anymore, so if they'll help your gaming enjoyment, drop me a PM. I'll send them USPP. All I ask is that you pass a favor on to someone else who might be able to use what you don't need. plug_nickel (Al) http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=48&c1=&c2=&search=ZjItNjQwMGNsNGQtMmdicGs=

...lol. I hadn't thought about shipping outside the USA. 2# large evelope Priority Mail to El Salavador is $12.95, according to USPS postage calculator. I don't know if you'ld want to do that or not. If you want to pay for the shipping. they're yours. plug_nickel (Al) ps, when I'm not in one of my Nupes ** in BHaH, I fly an F-16CJ in FF5.

Nope, no waste of money, but it was money well spent. We're all waiting for the final announcement regarding the addon. Enjoy BHaH in all of its splendor. The addon will only make it better and it to will be money well spent. plug_nickel (Al)

Let me know if you don't have any success getting OFF-P2. I have Smith-Micro Deluxe and all the files along with a pdf "How to Install". I can try a max compression on the largest file and see if it will transmit via email. PM me your email address if you want to try. Heck, there's nothing to lose. plug_nickel (Al)

Upgrade question - CPU & graphics card
almccoyjr replied to Crockett12's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Absolutely! Keep XP for now. Wait until at least the driver bugs are taken care of. FFB is just one of problems, but hopefully MS will get their act together after the Vista fiasco. You're on the right track with the Core I5-750 for holding its value for a long time and DDR3 pricing has gotten somewhat better. Nvidia has been the card of "choice", but the new RV800 GPU seems awfully impressive. Love to see how it compares to NV's 300 series. With ATI and NV getting ready to rumble again, ebay is looking good for a GTX 280,285 or possibly 295; but a lot depends. plug_nickel (Al) -

This is great! Since my Mom passed away this January, my Dad has been doing some research into both of their family crests. Her family is German-Polish and his is Scotts-Irish. It'll be GREAT to be able to fly with their crests on the side of my Nupe ** and DR-1 or DVII. plug_nickel (Al) -
