That's what I'm running.

Have you upgraded nvidia drivers? There were some problems with 341.07 / .14 causing what you're describing when in a complex pov scene. plug_nickel

Started my once a year disassembly of the pc for complete cleaning-wipedown, new T.I.M., checking for "fretting" in the slots, etc, and also checking backup hdds and found something horrible. Upon inspection, in one of my backup drives I thought I had found a "dust bunny". Upon closer inspection, it wasn't a "dust bunny", but almost 2gb of DOS payware-freeware games I've collected over the years. Further inspection of all my backup hdds (300gb_500gb_2 x 750gb_1tb) I "found", to my dismay, that I have a sickness: I AM A HOARDER !!!!! LORD help me. plug_nickel

Ahhhh...the first hard drive.
-
I found a folder called "Internet" with bookmarks. The oldest one was dated 1996. I loaded it in Firefox and none of the urls were good. This is fun. I'm literally viewing the evolution of my pc life. What a trip!!!!! I guess I'm not a hoader but rather a collector. Hey "rjw". What got me startd in the first place was setting up a catalog of my hdds.
-
I've got the DOS 5 diskettes backed up on one of my hdds. Since I haven't used a disk drive in it seems like forever, I no longer have any of the original diskettes. Does that still count NS13Jarhead?
-
Thanks Erik. The crew may have a difficult time getting through the front door. I'm cleaning out all of my old cds from BYTE thru MAXIMUM PC and a couple of other mags collected over the years. They're going to be at the front waiting for a friend from a pc shop to come by and pick them up. Cheers.
-
Well, I'll raise a toast to that. And by the way, that PSU was an "old" backup...
-
You don't understand. I've also got some 140 cd/dvds that also have a whole bunch of "stuff" on them. I started using more hdds because it's much easier. My absolute, critical files are on quality dvds for "safe" backup. On my "oldest" hdd backup drive, I have a copy of the DOS 6.22 and Win 3.1 diskettes. The change from being a "pack rat" to a "hoader" was insideous. I got a folder with old email that must have been important at one time. The only problem is that they are under their original format of either Pegasus or Eudora. I don't even use those two progams anymore, but I betcha I've got those apps backed up as well. Man, it's time to do some serious file cleaning.
-
Holy "S**T"!!! Looking closer, I've got 35mb of DOS programs and over 8GB of DOS games. Calling Dr. Phil.....
-
Excuse me, but that would be "my" nickel thank you. plug_

In the the main game folder, there's a folder named default. In that folder, there's a .xml file named cfs3. Open it using notepad or wordpad and about half way down under graphics section, you'll see max frame rate. On another note, I must respectfully disagree on a hdd not having an impact on game performance, especially flight sims. A poorly optimized hard drive can make a difference in how a game runs if cache or swap is involved and the base CFS3 engine does swap texture files. File location and swap file placement can indeed improve performance. Ultimate Defrag and O&O are but two disc management programs that allow direct, specific placement of apps, files, etc. Place your favorite flight sim on the very first track of the hdd, followed by a blank 4096 block and then the swap file and judge the difference. I run BHaH/HitR maxed out with fps locked @30 on a 6-1/2yr system and it's smooth as silk with TIR4. And at this point, I'll bite my tongue regarding the meaningless term "fps". plug_nickel

Unless you're going for a serious system overclock or some extreme benching, you really wouldn't see any difference between the two sets of timings @2133. Curious...why is it that you're eventually going to have 32gb? If this rig is going to be primarily for gaming, there's really no benefit in having 32gb unless you're looking at running a ram drive. If that's the case, then depending on the board's memory controller and the software you use to create the ram drive, you could see a very slight difference when running in a dynamic, real time save mode while in the game.
-
Timing alone really doesn't mean anthing. Timing coupled with the speed of the ram and at what base voltage, 1.35_1.5_1.65, is where performance vs dollar (value) lies. What brand and speed are you looking at?

Regarding an "APU" of verious mfgs. vs "CPU/GPU" combo, the bandwidth of the APU just isn't there yet and quite possibly, might not ever be. For extremely intense gaming or any video processing, discrete components are still the way to go. Be very, very sure about the motherboard firmware process upgrading pci-e 2.1 to v3. It's just not that simple and it's very possible to "brick" the mobo. You can always run a pci-e 2.1 in a 3 slot and be able to upgrade to pci-e 3 later on and have the bus to handle the card's potential bandwidth. The physical size of the card, its power connections, cooling, and thermal footprint are good specs to consider. Get the absolute fastest memory with the tightests timing you can afford. You won't regret it down the road. If you're planning on overclocking, there are other considerations to into account as well. Good building. plug_nickel

+1 BirdDog on BobII. When 2.12 is released, looks to be a game changer, so to speak, and not just an update. I just wished that Mig Alley had received the same attention after the BDG patch. Oh well.... From the simple stand point of shear mods, IL-2 1946 remains my favorite WWII sim. My #DBW mods folder now weighs in at 16.7gb by itself, thanks to the efforts of Monty27 and several SAS modders verifying compatibility. There's even a mod for the P-51 wheel well panels to close after engine startup and hydraulic pressure rises. Even though there was no real dynamic campaign written into Il-2, the community has produced some of the best scripted and dynamically generating campaings out there covering almost all areas of WWII. plug_nickel

I've been "burned out" on run-and-gun, tactile engagements, dogfighting, cas; just plain fighting. So I dusted off FSX, Some ORBX files, Tongass X, UT/AK_CAN, stripped out all of the unnecessary FSX base scenery files, edited some of the .bgl files for a better fit between areas and started flying "Return to Misty Moorings". This resulted in a nice 86gb package, less REX2 OD. Despite all the tweaks, I knew there was only one way to "properly" fly this sim and my journey to the "dark side" neather regions has now begun. Working on specs: E5-1620 SuperMicro UP (various) 128gb DDR3-1600 CL-11 ECC Reg Checking on various sound/video cards Reuse: WD 300gb Raptor, primary hdd WD 2tb Blk C, drive images Zalman 850watt ps OS W7-64 Ult Primo for drv.img's Drive images would be apprx 115gb max for different FSX scenarios including REX2 OD. Other sims would be assembled together as packages. I'm even looking into including a page file as part of each image. Ram drive through put read would be apprx 4000 to 6000 mb/s @ 4k level, depending on memory controller, with buffer levels around 2000 to 3800 mb/s; however, there are a lot of variables still to be thought out. plug_nickel (name now seems appropriate since I have a hole in my head)

OT...Researching new build
almccoyjr replied to almccoyjr's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey Bird Dog! After your Spousal Approval light went green, was there any rubber left on the Goldwing's rear tire as you tore out've the garage? I've been doing a lot of tinkering to, just not in the garage. I'm now modding my Cougar Hotas with rc shocks and when it's done, I'm doing the same thing to my CH Yoke. Afterwards, I'll be adding ffb to the yoke. Not sure about the Cougar. It's awfully tight in there. Good luck with Black Shark; it's a bitc* to fly well. If you're not already doing this and your throttle software supports it, reverse your throttle axis to use as a collective and maybe use a pot, if it has one, for power. I used to think that it could never get to cold to ride a bike. Back in college, '69, I rode my chopper from Carrollton, Ga. to home in Waner Robbins during the ice storm. Now I don't even like to get the mail at the end of my driveway when it's cold! Cheers, plug_nickel -
NATO Fighters 5 - Part 1 of 8
almccoyjr replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Eric: It's got to be something I've overlooked or has gone "bump" on my end. I'll keep "plugging" away with different installs to see if I can find a remedy. Even though I don't have campaigns, I'm not going to abandon NATO 5. The aircraft you have in Missions is worth keeping it on. I'll update if anything changes. Cheers, Al -
NATO Fighters 5 - Part 1 of 8
almccoyjr replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
eburger68, The Campaigns Menu Screen has the various choices shown to the left, but no options to choose on the right. All pulldown options simply state " unavailable". Yes...SF2I, Exp1_2 are installed. I'll post a screen if you need it after I get back from the vet's office. Al -
NATO Fighters 5 - Part 1 of 8
almccoyjr replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Ok, it's "stupid time" now. For the life of me, I can't get any campaigns to show when in the Campaign Menu Screen; "unavailable" is all that comes up. I'm running a full merge that includes SF2NA and currently patched to 7/12. For the "hey" of it, I've tried the following all with full merge install: SF2E, SF2NA @ 3/12, 5/12, 7/12; SF2E with same patches; SF2NA with same patches. I've c/p'd the campaign ini changes as well as tried manual entry; no go. I've redownloaded Part 1 a couple of times to make sure something didn't go bump to no avail. Missions work great as does Instant Action, but no campaigns. The other separate mods I'm running are TSF, ODS, FF and OD. They all work just fine. Can someone lend me their Community Card or lend me $200 to get out of jail. plug_nickel -
Italian missions package update
almccoyjr replied to HouseHobbit's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
R_L....You "sly 'ol IL-2 dog". And yes you can have multiple "copies" of OFF_BHaH_HitR as well as P2 if you so choose. O.T....Hey Olham: You can do the same with FSX and go one step further and generate new configs for each copy for flight updates, etc. I'm experimenting with Prepar3D to do the same. plug_nickel -
Italian missions underway
