  1. Pet Rescue

Hey MJ My dad got us a miniature poodle when we were kids. Molly lived to the ripe old age of 13, and was a "shadow" to my dad, whenever he was working in the yard. Very smart dog, too. Neurotic, but smart, heh, heh. My dog "Chief" definitely had a rough time of it when we first got him. We noticed that by the time he was only 4 months old that he didn't want to get up and play much. Seemed like he was in pain. Well, as it turned out he had a severe case of hip dysplasia, which is quite common in Rotts. We ended up taking him up to Knoxville, TN, to a vet who specializes in a type of corrective surgery called TPO (triple pelvic osteotomy). His surgery was done on one hip at at time, six weeks apart. They cut his pelvic bones in half, rotated them 30 degrees, and bolted them back together. The end result was to create a socket where there was none. The cost? You don't want to know. But we were not going to let him go. No way. Today, he is fine. You wouldn't know by looking at him that he ever had a problem. His only physical drawback seems to be that his hip muscles may not develop as they normally would have. But he jumps and runs like crazy. Navy Chief
  2. I agree with Saedor, SFP1 is a fun sim to fly. I hope the Vietnam campaign, along with carrier ops, will be available soon. But do get the sim. Multiplayer in SFP1 is not as stable as for FS2004, in that (as I understand it) all players must have the same aircraft/scenery in order to play. I may have misstated the facts on that, but I do know that MP still has problems. Navy Chief
  3. Whether You Like Him Or Not...

Hey Firehawkordy, It wasn't until after I posted that picture, and was reading the followup post, that I noticed those were ordies. When I was with VFA-83, we went on a det to Nellis AFB. The ordies were out on the line, doing their thing and loading bombs for the next event. The USAF aircraft ordnancmen were just sitting by their aircraft, doing nothing. Our ordies asked what they were waiting for. Well, apparently they don't load their bombs by hand; only with machines. Well, by the time the USAF ground support equipment arrived, our ordies had loaded all their bombs, and were back in the Line shack cooling their heels. Of course. Go Navair. Navy Chief

With few exceptions, the vast majority of vets feel the same way that Firehawkordy and I do. Service members who are younger are not as inclined to be anti-Clinton, mainly because (in my opinion) they did not serve during the Vietnam era, and do not understand the anger felt towards a Commander In Chief who actively protested against that war. Clinton actually went to Moscow during the Vietnam war to protest it. To me, Clinton was an embarrassment to our armed services. Every time I saw him on tv, wearing a flight jacket, I wanted to punch him out. Contrast Clinton with Bush, and the difference is obvious. I would have been proud to welcome President Bush when he landed onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln. When Neal Boortz, a radio commentator here in Atlanta, heard what the Democrats were saying about Bush visiting Normandy Beach, he wrote: Bush in Normandy … Not a Clinton Repeat "I watched the television coverage of President Bush in Normandy yesterday. All in all, a good event. No posturing. No phony tears. No convenient stones on the beach. Stones on the beach? Surely you remember, don't you? It happened during Clinton's visit to this very same spot on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Normandy invasion. Clinton wanted to go for a solitary stroll on the beach. Everyone else was to stay back ... just let him think. Let him reflect on the brave men who lived and died on that sand. Clinton, of course, knew that the television news cameras were up there above the beach, recording every moment of his reflective walk. Clinton came upon a group of stones scattered on the beach. He stopped, knelt down and arranged the stones into the shape of a cross. Cameras rolling. What a moment! Who knows how many votes that amazing moment of reflectivity might have been worth in 1996. It certainly didn't hurt. It was what the cameras didn't show that makes this story. The cameras weren't there earlier that day when a group of Clinton aides walked down that very same beach. The cameras weren't there when those aides stopped at the precise spot where Clinton would later fashion his rock cross. The cameras weren't rolling when those aides reached into their pockets, came out with some rocks, and scattered them on the beach. And Why Do I Still Bring Up the Clintons? Or, as the left would like to phrase it, "bash" the Clintons? Because they're still powerful, that's why. Bill is still corrupt. He's still a sociopath, and he's still without any moral scruples at all. Hillary is still a socialist, she's still a liar, she's still drunk with a desire for power ... and she intends to run for president. They're dangerous, and I'll continue to point out their threat and their dishonesty as long as we are all around." Sorry for being so long on this post, but CowboyTodd's title to this post, "Whether You Like Him or Not" was bound to elicit emotions from those of us who remember what Clinton stood for. The man was a disgrace. Navy Chief

Perhaps his office commanded repect, but I can tell you that he personally was not respected by anyone I knew. In fact, the general reaction when seeing him on tv, or hearing anyone discuss him, was one of disgust. AMEC(AW) P.C. Ward, USN, Retired
  6. Ok folks, I have been struggling with online gaming connections for months now, and STILL have not resolved my problem. I am running a Speedstream 5660 DSL modem. I've gone so far as to take the modem to the Tech Support Division for my ISP, and they made sure the necessary ports are open on the modem for play (specifically for FS2004). On occasion, I have no difficulty logging onto the various different servers to play online. Quite often, though, I am not able to, and FS2004 "locks" up on my system for a couple of minutes. I then get a message on the screen that says,"Connection failed! Not all players were able to connect." Once my sim allows me to make choices again, I try another server, which sometimes works......but usually not. There has got to be an answer to this intermittent acceptance of online game connection, but so far I am unable to figure it out. I even tried a different modem, made by Netopia, but the problem persisted. I reverted back to my Speedstream, as it is a superior modem. Does anyone out there have an answer. Surely there is a fix for this. I should be able to connect to any server that is online, I would think. Frustrated, to say the least. Navy Chief
  7. Online Gaming Connection Problems

Thanks, I believe I have tried shutting them down in the past, with no change; but will look into it again. Also, I am planning on trying a different modem; a Cayman (Netopia) 3341. They are supposed to be better for gaming, as it is easier to configure the ports. NC
  8. Pet Rescue

Right now, my wife is taking care of 29 kittens, and three cats. Needless to say, it is quite a job. My main contribution is doing errands to get food, litter, etc... The worst job is hauling away the litter. I mean, it's heavy to begin with, and after they use it? Back breaker! But it's all worth the effort. I have to say, however, that I miss my little Armand so much. He was my best friend for so long. My Rottweiler, "Chief", has taken over as my buddy. He has more personality than any dog I have ever had. Sometimes I really think he's more human than canine. Navy Chief
  9. Graduating

Yep, I know I am a codger. Funny how time does that. It definitely has a way of catching up to everyone. Time for 'nother cup of coffee. Retirement is a wonderful thing. What will I do today? Anything I want to. Heh, heh, heh...... Go Navy. Navy Chief
  10. Graduating

Ah yes, I remember fondly my graduation from H.S. Seems like 1972 was only yesterday. Heh, heh... Enjoy your youth, fellas; you will be in my shoes sooner than you think. heh, heh... Navy Chief

No firewall running. Made sure of that.
  12. Aircraft Carrier Prototype

I couldn't resist posting this. "Remember when you vote in November that President Kerry will be cutting defense dollars where he can because he believes in a lighter, more maneuverable force. The Navy is already getting prepared by naming a class of Aircraft Carriers after him. This is the prototype". Navy Chief
  13. Aircraft Carrier Prototype

Yeah, A short deck like this might make JATO bottles somewhat of a necessity, eh? Landings? Well, I guess it's time to design "throw away" aircraft. NC
  14. Want A Real Good Laugh?

You are right about the Navy not using Chinooks. When I was flown off of the USS Saratoga in Haifa, Israel, the helo may still have been a Chinook. Not sure, as other services were assisting that day. It was right after the ferry boat overturned in Haifa's harbor, drowning 22 sailors. I was with 21 other sailors, assigned as escorts for the drowning victim's bodies being flown back to the states. NC
  15. Hey all I need to get a new graphics card. Presently, I am running a Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200. It's a good card, but only has 64 MB of RAM. Problem is, my FPS in FS2004 really take a hit at times. Take for example, the latest "Super Hornet". A truly beautiful aircraft, but when I try to fly it, my FPS rates drop to 8 or below sometimes, making it impossible to fly. So, although I cannot afford a top-of-line graphics card, I am wondering if a new card with 128 MB of RAM would solve my problem? 1833 megahertz Intel Pentium 4 My processor is a 1.8 MHZ Pentium 4. (1833 megahertz). And I have 512 of RAM. So, please let me know what you think? Navy Chief

  17. Need Advice Choosing Graphics Card

Yeah, I like the idea too. Tell you what, you build me a kick **s gaming computer for FREE, and then I will provide you all the testimonials on what a quality product that you make, and how satisfied I am...for FREE! The way I look at it, its a win, win situation, eh? Heh, heh.... Navy Chief
  18. Need Advice Choosing Graphics Card

Hey Fates, thanks for the advice. Yes, when all is said and done, the deciding factor is....money. When I get through paying the next quarterly taxes to the IRS Nazis, if I have enough pennies left, I will see about affording a new card. Go NAVAIR! NC
  19. Need Advice Choosing Graphics Card

Hey Buff I ran a Belarc readout, and got the following info: Intel Corporation D850MV AAA56423-301 (motherboard) 1833 megahertz Intel Pentium 4 8 kilobyte primary memory cache 256 kilobyte secondary memory cache 512 Megabytes Installed Memory Intel® 82801BA Ultra ATA Controller Primary IDE Channel [Controller] Secondary IDE Channel [Controller Intel® 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442 Intel® 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller NC
  20. Need Advice Choosing Graphics Card

Sounds good, Fates. Now then, take for example the first card that PG Raptor mentions; the ATI Radeon 9600 w/ 128Mb, for 96 bucks. Will that card exceed the performance of my Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200, simply because it has more RAM? I am not up on the different capabilities of graphics cards. I know that I could spend a LOT of cash and get a great card, but if the ATI Radeon 9600 w/ 128Mb will do what I want (fly FS9 with better FPS than I presently have), then hey, why spend more $$$$? Whatdya think? NC
  21. Need Advice Choosing Graphics Card

Thanks for all the advice. One person, on a different forum, advised me that I would need to update my CPU to fix my problem. First off, as I understand it, I would need to replace my motherboard also, wouldn't I? If replacing my CPU by itself, is an option, I need to know about this. I would rather, at this point, simply replace my graphics card if that would fix my FPS difficulties. What do you all think???? Not wanting to spend a lot, know-what-I-mean-Vern? Navy Chief
  22. Navy Uses Fs9 To Train Nuggets

Hey MJ If I can get CNATRA to actually put me in contact with Ltjg Lacey, I will ask him about an interview. I may actually call CNATRA, and try contacting him myself this week. NC
  23. Navy Uses Fs9 To Train Nuggets

Hey Topgun Thanks for your post. I emailed the Chief of Naval Air Training, and asked them to put me in touch with Ltjg Herb Lacey, who is in charge of the flight simulation program. The article that you posted a link to, mentions that Ltjg Lacey had included panels and aircraft he had created, into the customized version of Flight Simulator. I would be MOST interested if LtjgLacey would be able to share those aircraft and panels with us! Probably not possible, but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask! Go NAVAIR! Navy Chief
  24. A Real Sad Day In Ramona...

My prayers are for Ramon and his family. We need to keep up the fight. We must remain steadfast in our battle to overcome the evil of terrorism. To turn tail and run would be a grave mistake that would cost us countless lives. Ramon's sacrifice will not be in vain. Navy Chief
