I broke down and spent the 30 bucks for this addon for FS2004, and I am SO glad I did. It is awesome!!! I have only tried landing on the carrier deck twice now. Crashed both times. The second attempt, I hit the round down, while trying to land my Tomkitty. Not nice. But the graphics are so cool. Even has a Fresnel Lens system for landing. The catapults work too. Hit Shift F9, and the cats are armed; then simply release the brakes, and you are launched off the "pointy end". This is so cool. Now, if only SFP1 can get this incorporated!!!! Maybe I need to drink a few O'Douls to get better at this, eh? NC

A Soldier, a Sailor, an Airman & a Marine got into an argument about which branch of the service was "The Best." The arguing became so heated the four service men failed to see an oncoming truck as they crossed the street. They were hit by the truck & killed instantly. Soon, the four servicemen found themselves at the Pearly gates of Heaven. There, they met Saint Peter & decided that only he could be the ultimate source of truth & honesty. So, the four servicemen asked him, "Saint Peter, which branch of the United States Armed Forces is the best?" Saint Peter replied, "I can’t answer that. However, I will ask God what He thinks the next time I see Him. Meanwhile, thank you for your service on Earth & welcome to Heaven." Some time later the four servicemen see Saint Peter & remind him of the question they had asked when first entering Heaven. The four servicemen asked Saint Peter if he was able to find the answer. Suddenly, a sparkling white dove lands on Saint Peter’s shoulder. In the dove’s beak is a note glistening with gold dust. Hey Firehawkordy Remember when the training squadrons were called "Rag" outfits? Of course, that meant Replacement Air Group, but the Politically Correct Crowd got wind of it, and said it was too close to a reference to the "time of the month" for women. So NOW those squadrons are called "FRS", or Fleet Replacement Squadrons. Spare me. Another case of people with too much time on their hands. And then there's the subject of women on combat ships. Hey TopGun Again, thanks for the link. I made a mistake yesterday, and downloaded an addon A-7 from Alpha Simulations. I do NOT, repeat NOT recommend this site! The A-7 I downloaded (cost was not bad at $7); but none of the flight control surfaces are animated in FS2004, and the tailhook and canopy are not animated either. Main reason I wanted an addon A-7, was to go with the Flight Deck 3 program I just ordered. FD3 not only has arresting gear capability for carrier ops, but also has a Fresnel Lens system! So cool. Anyway, stay clear of Alpha Simulations, in my opinion. I emailed them, asking if I could get a free update, once they update the A-7 for FS2004. The reply was, "no", as it would mean a totally new aircraft model. Oh well, so much for doing business with them again. I do have a question, though. Is it possible to modify such a computer model to "fix" such problems, such as inanimate flight control surfaces? NC

Old Navy Chief and Parrot The old Navy Chief finally retired and got that chicken ranch he always wanted. He took with him his life-long pet parrot. First morning at 0430, the parrot squawked loudly and said, "Reveille, Reveille. Up all hands. Heave out and trice up. The smoking lamp is lighted, now Reveille" The old chief told the parrot, "We are no longer in the Navy. Go back to sleep." The next morning, the parrot did the same thing. Chief told the parrot, "If you keep this up, I'll put your ass out in the chicken pen". Again the parrot did it, and true to his word, the Chief put the parrot in the chicken pen. About 0630 the morning after that, the Chief was awakened by one heck of a ruckus in the chicken pen. He went out to see what was the matter. The parrot had about 40 white chickens at attention in formation, and on the ground lay 3 bruised and beaten brown chickens. The parrot was saying, "By God, when I say fall out in dress whites, I don't mean Khakis!" Hehehehe.... Navychief

Hey Firehawkordy You are so, so correct! My last command was VQ-1, at NAS Whidbey Island. I ran the Line Division, and my LPO was an AT2, name Mchale. Our Div. Officer was great. He allowed me to run my division as I saw fit, and never bothered me. If I had a need to discuss something with my Div "O", then I went looking for him; otherwise, he stayed out of MY Line Shack. Petty Officer McHale made things happen for me. If I told him I wanted something done, he did it, period. If I needed something for the division, McHale "procured it"; and I never asked him where he got it! My Line Division, in the four years I ran it, never had a sailor go to Captain's Mast; something unheard of for a Line Division. In fact, the division got voted the Division of the Quarter more than once. My last six months in the Navy were a joy, thanks to my LPO. McHale is now a AT1, assigned to a unit in Hawaii. He got passed over for CPO this year, which is a shame. He deserves to be a Chief, in my opinion. His problem is that he won't keep his mouth shut. I have repeatedly told him that once he makes CPO, he can say pretty much what he wants. But opening his mouth too much now, only upsets the khakis, and they don't like it. And so, his chances for selection to CPO are now dim. But Chiefs make things happen with the help of a good LPO, and a Division Officer who lets their Division CPO do their job. That's a fact. I am a Yankee by birth; born and raised in Indianapolis. I have lived in Georgia since 1997, and prior to that, I lived in Jacksonville, FL for nine years. Georgia is not exactly my favorite place to live, but at age 50, I probably won't be going through the moving process again. But the people here are friendly, and definitely proud of their heritage. I fly the old Georgia flag on my flagpole; not the new politically correct one. The only reason they changed the state flag here, was because the state was threatened by the NAACP, and other special interest groups, that they would boycott the state if they did not change the flag to remove the "stars and bars". Intimidation, pure and simple. And the wimpy state politicians proved they had no backbone. Southerners are proud folk. This issue of banning Dixie Outfitter clothing in schools is just another instance of a small group of people trying to change the past to fit their own agenda. I hope they don't succeed. I think it is time for the majority to rebel and say "enough is enough". Political correctness has gotten too big of a hold in this country. Navychief

The Veteran's Bar Four retired Air Force vets were walking down the street window-shopping. They turned a corner and saw a sign that said "Veterans Bar" over the door of an establishment that didn't look all that well kept. They looked at each other with much skepticism, but then they went in. On the inside, they realized they did indeed "judge the book by it's cover". Then the old bartender hollered across the room, "Come on in, gents, and let me pour you one! What'll it be?" There was a fully stocked bar and the men all asked for a martini. In short time the bartender served up 4 lovely iced martinis - shaken not stirred and said, "That'll be 40 cents, please." The four men stared at the bartender for a moment then looked at each other – they could not believe their good luck. They paid the 40 cents, finished their martinis and ordered another round. Again, four excellent martinis were set up and again the bartender said, "That's 40 more cents, please." They paid the 40 cents but their curiosity was more than they could stand. They each had two martinis and so far they'd spent less than a dollar. Finally, one of the men said, "How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these for a dime a piece?" The bartender replied, "No doubt you've noticed the decor in here. And the outside ain't nothin' to write home about either. I don't waste money on that stuff. But, here's my story. I'm a retired Master Chief Boatswain's Mate and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the lottery for $45million and decided to open this place for veterans. Every drink costs a dime -- wine, liquor, beer, all the same." "Wow! That's quite a story." said one of the men. The four of them sipped at their martinis, but couldn't help noticing three other guys at the end of the bar who didn't have a drink in front of them and hadn't ordered anything the whole time they were there. One man finished his martini and gestured at the three at the end of the bar without drinks and asked the bartender, "What's with them?" The bartender said, "Oh, those guys are retired Navy carrier pilots. They're waiting for happy hour!" Navychief

When I first came into the Navy, I was stationed at NATC Patuxent River, MD. Great duty, but not exactly representative of the "real Navy", as it were. I did enjoy it there, though. The only sea time I saw, while at Pax River, was with the maintenance crew for the aircraft used on for ACLS certifications (Automatic Carrier Landing System). Those detachments would usually only last one week. At the time I was a A-7 Plane Captain (or Crew Chief, for you Air Force types!). Nowadays, when an aircraft lands, they do all refueling on the flight deck. As far as I know, there is no exception to this. But back in the 70s, it was quite common for them to trap an aircraft, and drop it down the nearest elevator to the hangar deck. The pilot would taxi the aircraft through the hangar bays (engines running!). The ordies would reload weapons on it and the grapes would refuel it on either forward elevator, and then send it back to the flight deck to the cats for relaunch! When they would send the aircraft to the flight deck, they would announce that an aircraft was coming down (they'd signify which elevator) "down, Hot". It was a strange sight, not to mention loud as hell, to see a jet taxiing through the hangar. The noise was deafening. Navychief

Hey Firehawkordy I only saw it happen one time. It was on the Sara, back around 74, and we were off the coast of Cuba, doing ACLS quals. Our det was only onboard for one week, and they gave us berthing that was the worst! The aircon was broken in our compartment, and we tried sleeping in the catwalks, and got into trouble for that. Anyway, I do remember seeing a jet taxi in the hangar, and what I recall mostly was the noise! navychief

Yes, I agree with Dagger and PcPilot. I have visited many other sites, and none of them are as civil as Bio is. I consider the people on this site to be my friends. Most recently, with the passing of my little feline friend, Armand, I was heartened by all the replies from the kind people on this site who expressed support for me in my time of grief. I want to thank everyone again for your sincere, heartfelt outpouring of understanding. It means a great deal to me. BioHazard Central is a wonderful site. Sort of a virtual "Cheers", if you will! My friends, I had to say goodbye to my little buddy, Armand, this morning. For the past few weeks, I watched him seemingly recover from his illness - only to see him get sick again, and quit eating. Last night was the worst I had seen him. He was so weak, he could not walk without falling down. It hurt me to see him in such a state. My once proud Siamese cat, who used to "rule" the house, could not even manage to walk across the room. After talking to our vet, and trying to decide what was best for Armand, I had to let him go. The next step would have been to put in a feeding tube, and the vet said that he might not have tolerated the sedative, as his physical state was so weak. It broke my heart to say goodbye to him. I kissed and held him, crying all the time, and so did the vet. Armand was my closest friend for quite some time, and he got me through a very rough time when I went through a divorce. I will miss him terribly. Losing a pet is something I have not had to do, personally. When I was younger, our family dog was put to sleep while I was on leave, so I was not there to deal with the grief. It wasn't until I came home, that I learned of her passing. And so, my decision to let Armand go was not easy. If I had let them do more testing, feeding tube, etc..., there was no guarantee that any of those measures would have worked, and indeed, would have caused Armand more and more stress. I would have been keeping Armand alive for me, and that would be selfish. Sorry I have rambled on so much. Thanks for being my friends when I need the support the most. Navychief

Well, I downloaded the file from AVSIM, and, as I mentioned on the Sim HQ site, I get constant CTDs when I get close to the carrier. Frustrating, to say the least. There were no installation instructions included with the file from AVSIM. I assumed that all files were supposed be placed into the Objects folder, which I did. Anyone have a fix for this? I have not seen the update file to this on AVSIM yet, and I have checked several times throughout the day. One question I have is: Is the anti-ship mission the only way to see the carrier? For some reason, even if I choose anti-ship, I am only able to get the cargo ship to show up, NOT the carrier. Please, if someone can explain the answer to this problem, I would appreciate it. I put all the new files for CV-41 into my Objects directory, as usual. navychief
