Should receive WOV soon.
navychief posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Ok shipmates. I have been out of the loop for a few weeks, when it comes to this sim. To be honest, I don't know a lot about it, other than it is a Vietnam era sim, similar to SFP1, and it includes carrier ops. Are there a lot of mods available for it? Is there a sticky post that answers all this? Where do I begin, update-wise, with the sim, once I install it? Thanks in advance, shipmates. Damn, but I wish I had DSL again. Dialup is like receiving data at the rate of pouring molasses. Navy Chief -
We wanted to move further out in the country, away from everyone; and so we did. Just before we moved, I made arrangements with BellSouth for my new phone service; however, I didn't check on DSL, as I can't afford to have it installed just yet. I never thought to check on availability of DSL in my area. I simply "assumed" that since the phone service provider was BellSouth, that DSL would surely be offered. Wrong. Last night I did an availability check, through BellSouth's website, and was shocked to find out that DSL is not available in my area. I spent over an hour on the phone with those idiots this morning, being transferred from one bozo to the next; and none of them could give me a phone number to call whoever is in charge of planning for future DSL installations. Oh well, I was definitely spoiled with DSL at my previous home. I am so, so thankful for at least having Dialup, but I am more than a little upset that I can't get DSL even if I could afford it right now. The only way I can get DSL now, is through a satellite connection through Earthlink; and they want an enormous amount of cash to get that started. Not to mention the $70 per month connection fee, once it is established! And so, I LOVE living in the country. But I miss online flying with DSL!!! Enough bellyachin' for now. Navy Chief

Thanks for all your replies, shipmtes. I wish I could get cable modem service, but even that isn't available here. One thing is for certain, however; I am going to pester the phone company. Constantly. Navy Chief

Every year, my wife take pictures of our pets for the Christmas cards we print and send to family/friends. Tonight she pulled out some deocrations and took some pictures of "Chief" and some of our cats. Poor "Chief". He has a lot more patience than I do! More pictures as she takes them. Happy holidays, shipmates. Navy Chief

Happy Thankgiving all! I have made the decision to get a gaming computer. I definitely need advice before actually spending the money for one though. I have always thought that putting a computer together was the way to go, vs purchasing one with all the components instead. The reason being I could choose the quality of the sound, graphics, memory, etc.... Is that still the way to go nowadays? Ok then, just how much should I expect to spend, realistically, for a real good (not necessarily the best) gaming system? Please give me some advice, and websites to check out, my fellow Bio "shipmates"! I can easily do a web search for this information, I supposed, but it is the advice of my friends on BioHazard Central that I trust. Thanks! Navy Chief PS, you can also email me information at: navychief@nyc.rr.com

I will need mostly everything. Monitor, keyboard; the works. NC

I thank you all for your suggestions! I plan to take all your comments to heart, and do a lot of reading up on what is available. I guess I am looking at spending about $1200. My plan is to give my present system to my wife, and everything in the gaming system will be new. NC

Hi all. Many thanks to all the replies to my post in the "Pub", by the way. For now, I drive about a 1/2 hour to be able to get on the net at the library in Murphy, NC. But until finances improve, 'tis all I can do! Anyway, a friend of mine kindly downloaded the update to FS9 onto a cd, and gave it to me last night. Along with it, he printed out install/uninstall information on the update; plus further information on the update itself, and problems that might occur. Well, true to form, I did not have a successful install. The documentation I read stated that if there were any problems with either the EXE files, or the BGL files, that I would get a message on the screen, saying I wouuld have to install the original. There were no such messages. All that happened was the update seemed to go through the motions, and at the end, the message on my screen was something to the effect, "Update was not installed successfully". To make things even more interesting, if I try to reinstall the update, I get a message that the update has ALREADY been installed! However, when I checked the version number, it still says 9.0, not 9.1. GRRRRRR!!!! No idea what to do now. If I could get easier access to the net, perhaps I could get an answer, but am clueless. I am hesitant to uninstall everything, as I have so many addons; some of them are payware, and would be a nightmare to track down all the files, and recover passwords to reinstall them all. As is the case with most folks, I have a LOT of mods to the original install: i.e. aircraft, sounds, scenery, 3rd party addons, etc... Does anyone out there have some solutions for me???? For now, I guess I will leave things untouched. I am hopeful that one of you can help me! Thanks for now, shipmates. Navy Chief P.S. I will check back in a few days when I can. retnavycpo@hotmail.com

Fs9 update question from Navychief.
navychief replied to navychief's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Hey Boltz What I did was do rename FS9's directory to "old", and then did a complete reinstall of the sim. I still have the directories with my addon aircraft, and plan to transfer them over. I have noticed a problem though. I tried transferring my T-28 aircraft, but it will not load. It crashes FS9. Any idea what is going on with that? Has not happened with other aircraft I have transferred, but I have only transferred a few. I am not flying all that much yet. Thanks to a fellow Bio member, I have internet. It is dialup, so I am not even attempting to fly online. Perhaps in a few months I will be able to afford DSL again, and will be back flying online. For now, though, I am happy as heck just to be back on the net. NC -
Hey Dagger, Somehow I just KNEW you were going to respond! Heh, heh..... One memory I have of Marines being on the carrier, is that they used to be in charge of the brigs aboard ship. I may be mistaken, but I don't think that is the case nowadays. Seems like I recall an incident involving mistreatment of some sailors in a brig onboard a carrier, back in the early 80s? I can't remember the details, but I believe that as a result, the Marines were no longer tasked with brig duty. I am sure they still maintain security though. NC

Ok, you must know I have to put my two cents worth, don't you? Yes, the Marines are a department of the US Navy. It's a little known "fact" that the Marines were created so the sailors could have someone to dance with. Heh, heh. Standing by for incoming.............. Navy Chief

A few months ago, I know I saw a post about this. Probably even in reply to a post I had made. But you know how forgetful us CPOs can be; ESPECIALLY us retired types! Anyway, the plans I speak of, are of a homebuilt cockpit, constructed of plywood, and easy to put together. Am hoping someone out there has made one, or know what I am referring to. Thanks. NC P.S. I am in GREAT need of assistance with my game controllers too. I downloaded and installed the latest Control Manager program for CH Products. Now I am not able to get FS2004 to recognize the MAP files I was using for the sim! Pain in the..... Anyone out there having CH controllers, and know what I am complaining about....please contact me! retnavycpo@hotmail.com

Yep, that's the way I see it too, MJ. I am not adept at all with woodworking; but I think I can build this without too much trouble. I emailed the creator of it, and asked if there are any mods to it, etc... I have not heard back from him yet. The other thing is a few days ago I decided to clean the inside of the casing for my CH Pedals. BAD IDEA! If anyone out there in Bio land also has CH pedals, do NOT open the case unless you know exactly what you are doing. When I opened it, the springs inside came loose, along with breaking one of the wires. Bottom line is, I am shipping the unit to CH, and they are charging me $48, plus $10 S/H to repair and reassemble the pedals. I learned a valueable lesson this time! Sorta like, "If you don't know what you are doing, don't F....K with it! NC

Well, I found what I was searching for. It is a simple and transportable simpit. I plan to build it soon, and will post pictures of its completion. Wish me luck, as I am not good at woodworking, period! NC You can see the simpit and download the plans through a link from it at: http://www.62ndfightingfalcons.asn.au/62nd...pit/cockpit.htm

Hey Dagger, Could you give us some information about it? The link you gave for further information - requires membership just to read the forum posts.... NC

Hey Beer, I have been "out of the loop", so to speak, for a couple months. Just wondering how the second music video is coming along? Sure is good to be back online. Navy Chief

Fs9 update question from Navychief.
navychief replied to navychief's topic in Microsoft Flight Simulator
Thanks, Boltz. I will try that. I know for a fact that the exe file I currently am using is the "no cd" file. Thanks. NC -
Ahoy all! I stopped in at a library in Murphy, NC, to post a message on my favorite site! The libraries closest to our new home do not have Internet, and I am not able to afford to have it connected just yet. We're doing fine. Our previous home has not sold yet (not even any offers, unfortunately). I am hopeful that situation will change soon. Obviously, I am not happy about paying two mortgages! It is much more peaceful at our "new" home. Plenty of room (went from 750 sq ft to over 1900!), and our Rottweiler, "Chief", is loving it. We got him a playmate named "Roxie". She's came from the Pet Rescue that my wife and I volunteer for. Anyway, I willl check in from time to time to see what's new. I miss flying onilne, and being able to download new aircraft for FS9. More than that, I greatly miss the ability to read and post on this site with you fine folks! Take care, and I hope to be back online soon. AMEC(AW) P.C. Ward, USN, Retired AKA......... Navy Chief

Will the aircraft in SFP1 work in WOV?
navychief posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I am curious if the SFP1 aircraft will work in WOV? It would be nice, considering the amount of wonderfully detailed aircraft available, and the hundreds of hours spent in creating them. Navy Chief -
Anyone wanting to email me can do so at: retnavycpo@hotmail.com I will check my email when I can. NC

My present phone line will be disconnected tomorrow, due to beginning to move. The same day, my phone line gets connected at the "new" house, but I have all but decided to hold off paying for internet for a while (along with satellite), due to finances. Have to sell my house, and will be stretching things thin until then. If I can, I will get online when possible at the public library. Hope to see y'all soon. Go NAVAIR! Navy Chief

Folks, another carrier ops addon is on the way. Read about it at: http://www.abacuspub.com/catalog/s568.htm Looks promising, eh? One way or 'nother, I plan to be flying a SLUF over 'Nam, droppin' napalm on VC real soon!! Here's a picture of a Skyhawk from the future addon. Navy Chief
