  1. Try replacing the [Frontline] position entries in the campaign DATA.INI file with these:

    Position[001]=100000,000

I took these from the MOVEMENT.INI file from the Iceland02 terrain folder.  That will get you up and running.

There is till something bit odd going on with the unit entries. Unfortunately, I don't have time to look into it just now.

Try using this as a template campaign for the Iceland02 terrain.  You will need to swap out some of the unit types, as some of those old mods I used are no longer available for one reason or another, or have been superseded by updated versions.

  2. Hi madvad,

Have you changed the [Frontline] settings in the campaign DATA.INI file to match the Iceland02 map? Those are right at the end of the DATA.INI file.

If you just used the same frontline settings from the stock Thirdwire Iceland map, then the campaign engine won't work properly on the Iceland02 map.

That's one explanation for the immediate loss you are seeing.

The frontline for a campaign has to be plotted using map co-ordinates for your campaign terrain, so that it runs from one side of the map to the other.

All of the friendly strategic nodes have to be on one side of the frontline, and all of the enemy strategic nodes have to be on the other side.

As ground units capture strategic nodes, the campaign engine will move the frontline dynamically.

You may need to play around with the number and position of plotted points on your frontline to get the campaign engine to work properly.

    I hope that helps.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you are enjoying my little Iceland terrain!  That takes me back a few years....

  3. Tomahawk by Digital Integration, on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum.  48K bytes of RAM, two-tone wireframe graphics, and a Kempston Joystick.  It even had a dynamic campaign.  Well, kind of.  And you had to save your progress on a cassette tape.

    1985.  Happy Days.

  4. Hi guys,

    Thanks for the shout out...

Still live and kicking, happily, though much more of a lurker round here than anything else, these days...

Quite a few of my promised wip terrains still on the back burner, as a result of feature creep, overambition, RL, and, oh yeah, I've been reading up on Stary's 250m resolution mesh technique, that guy is awesome, but makes me want to retool some of these seriously...

Will keep plugging away, they'll be here when they're done

  5. I remember a rather old thread where Baltika was showing updates of his own Balkan terrain, but no updates recently, anyway IIRC Brain32 once gave him some hi-res tiles made from satellite images of the Balkans, maybe you can ask if someone has those, those tile templates could be useful at a later stage.

    Yup, this:-

Sorry blaze, post #58 from 10 Dec 2013 represents the latest update on that map.

I did drop Brain32 a line about his wip hi-res custom tileset, but it never saw the light of day.

Maybe one of these days, I'll get around to finishing off this and a dozen other wips - like, when I win the lottery and quit my day job ;-)

Meantime, best advice I can give anyone is to go back and read gepard's terrain building tutorials from the KB.

Anyone wants to build a terrain, gepard spells out how to do it from scratch, step by step.

All you need then is time (years!), patience (of a saint!) and lots of successful 1d20 save against sanity rolls.  It will drive you nuts!

  6. Magnificent work, thank you sir!

I have tested your new EAW140 single install in my Win7 64 bit desktop and Win 8.1 laptop, both running great, simple install and great performance.

Brings back some old, old memories, looking forward to trying out the DAW campaign, which I missed out on first time around.

Still missing horizon fog on my Win8.1 laptop, even though it has a Radeon card, but no worries, nglide works fine.

(Would be nice to have native widescreen resolution, FOV and horizon fog in D3D, but I'm a retro gamer, I can live with the workarounds!)

  7. Hi Baff,

Great work you are doing here on FMs.

The old, old BoB campaign for SFP1 was what got me started on modding, and your suggestion of a new SF2 compatible complete BoB package has got me very interested again.

I have an updated, unreleased version of the BoB campaign files gathering dust on my HDD, so count me in as a volunteer for your new BoB team.  I will need to do some work to pull it all together for release, but if you want them, give me a shout.

Happy days for me, made a lot of friends round here:-

  8. Could some friend here post some screenies of both Gerwin's and Baltika's terrains in order to choose?

There are a bunch of screenshots on the main d/l page for Iceland02 right here:-

BTW, thanks to eburger for taking the time to include alternate campaign files to breathe some life into my old Iceland terrain.

    Cheers mate :drinks:

  9. Hi guys,

I saw this thread and it brought me out of long retirement.

That old BoB campaign was what got me started on the whole modding thang, good times:-

    http://combatace.com/topic/19928-battle-of-britain-campaign-feedback/

OK, you have to remember the BoB campaign files you are working with were built for the old  v083006 of SFP1.

A lot changed between that and the '08 patch for SFP1/WOE.  So, there are going to be issues when you drop the BoB campaign straight into SF2.

Heck & Baff, there are many "oddities" in the old BoB campaign files which were done for a specific purpose under v083006 code.

Supply values, and airoffensive entries (lots of them!) were specifically tweaked to allow the campaign to progress through three recognized phases of BoB, in appropriate target areas - Channel Battle, Airfield offensive, and London Blitz.  Of course, TK later introduced the whole FocusArea= code which would have made life a lot easier, but hey, we worked with what we had back then ;-)

Also, there are campaign ground war nodes because, in certain campaign outcomes and specific supply situations, the Axis would launch Operation Sealion, the Nazi invasion of the UK.

All of this was play-tested thoroughly back in the day, to ensure it all worked - under v083006 SFP1.

Finally, as The Wrench points out, the campaign code is dependent on the terrain version.

As I recall (vaguely, it was built over seven years ago!), the BoB campaign code was dependent on certain specific terrain .ini mods which I included in the Bob campaign d/l package.

Unless you use the specific version of Gepard's BoB terrain specified in the BoB campaign readme, with those campaign specific terrain edits applied, you will get issues.

    I hope that clarifies things.

Nothing I'd like more than to update the old BoB campaign for SF2, but alas, my time does not permit these days.

Best advice: take a look at some "stock" SF2 campaign code, and remove all entries which do not appear in SF2.

SF2 streamlined a lot of the campaign code, and some old SFP1 entries (again from memory, it's been a while!) could cause issues.

I suspect the whole thing needs rebuilt from the ground up, but maybe something can be salvaged.

  10. Excellent work, Kevin - can't wait to fly it ;-)

I'm sure you are good for maps, but just in case:-

As a whisky-drinking Scotsman, I am particularly keen to see Johnny Walker, Highland Queen and John Haig Airfields included on this map drinks_drunk.gif.pagespeed.ce.KPS6IFLTfs

Also, I notice you are going for a late-war front line - no worries, it's your call, and it fits in perfectly with the inclusion of Imphal and Kohima, but for that Flying Tigers Campaign we may need an alternate data set with the front line fixed with the Brits and the Tigers at Mingaladon, and the RAF fighting that last-ditch defence of Singapore - well, that's what Churchill wanted them to do!  Happy to oblige for that if need be.

  11. Baltika, any success exporting the tilemap in TE? I have a similar issue with the fictional terrain I've been working on. On mine the colors look OK but the image is slanted like yours. My terrain was rotated during the build process so was wondering if that could be the issue.

Hi Baffmeister, no joy for me so far.

ATM that is holding up further multi-tileset work on this terrain.  I have Brain32's reworked photoreal GermanyCE set for the northern part of Europe, and Stary's Anatolia v1 tileset for the Med.  I need to make some transition textures for where those sets meet, but that's no problem.  I have IsraelME set listed in TE as a third working tileset for this terrain, but autotile in TE is too crude in its implementation of exclusion zones for me to make the IsraelME set appear only in North Africa.

Stary's proposed solution to cut & paste parts of the tileset bmp is the perfect answer for that issue, but I keep getting the screwed up tileset bmp I showed in my earlier post.

Stary has said something about saving the palette in PS to get it to work.  It may be an issue that I use GIMP and PAINT.NET for all my editing work - I don't have PS.

I will keep plugging away, and if I get a breakthrough, I'll let you know.

I have resized this terrain slightly, but not rotated it, but who knows if that makes a difference?
