Hey kei, I saw your first trailer and loved it. I am stuck in a hotel room just now with cr*ppy wireless bandwith and can't see the new one yet, but I agree with suhsjake, I think you should make a mod I want to fly WoE 6  Cheers, baltika -
Tweaking flight models
Baltika replied to eccles's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi guys, I have similarly taken a nosedive into messing around with FMs for the first time - Wow is there a lot to learn. My hat off to those modders who crank these things out all the time - S! If you haven't read this yet, grab it now, I have printed off a hard copy, it's so useful:- http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/charleseaw/zips/SFNotes.zip Thanks to Charles for compiling the guide. Baltika replied to hornetjock6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
One more thing, Gepard's BoB terrain v1.4 is not part of the campign d/l pack. You have to get that from the terrain section here at combatace. Make sure you install Gepard's terrain before you install the campign files. Good luck, baltika -

Baltika replied to hornetjock6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Hi hornetjock6, Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Like FastCargo says, more info on what is going wrong would help. It should just be a case of patching your game up to v083006, installing the wep pack, and copying the unpacked BoB d/l files into the correct folder, over-writing when requested. As much info as you can give would help. Cheers, baltika -

BOB version 0.6
Baltika replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Hi Brainless, Yes, I've seen this behaviour. There was a discussion on the destructability of bombers on the main BoB feedback thread, although, fair enough, it's getting a bit unwieldy to find what you want easily. To summarise:- If you look in the [aircraft]_data.ini for say the He-111H2, you'll see that the StructuralFactor= flag in each component part of the plane is set at values like 5.5 or 6.5. Those values are even higher for the Ju-88. That variable is a multiplier of the "hit points" each component has, so a value of 5 means it's 5 times stronger that a component with a value of 1. The Luftwaffe bombers are very strong structurally. They also have self-sealing fuel tanks, with fire suppression, and a lot of armour. You will see all these variables set in the _data.ini for each plane. The upshot of this is that the bombers are damn hard to destroy without cannon fire. The early Spitfires and Hurricanes were not cannon-armed, so the bombers soak up a lot of damage from your 8 .303 Brownings. This is a fairly well-debated subject, but I have read enough accounts of bombers making it back to base with hundreds of bullet holes in them to reach the view that the bombers are as tough as they ought to be in the BoB campaign. Try downloading a Spit 2b and taking it for a whirl on an SP intercept mission. Watch what a difference cannon fire makes to the bombers. I have included 151 Sqdn RAF as a playable because of documented accounts of that squadron experimenting with cannon-armed Hurricanes. As you progress through the campaign you will get to try out a Hurri 2B (12x Brownings) and Hurri 2C (4x Hispano Cannon). This is veering close to arcade-style weapons upgrades and is a mite unhistorical, but it is intended to be fun, and to overcome the frustration factor caused by the difficulty of downing bombers. It also rewards the player for surviving through the campaign You have B Bandy RFC to thank for 151 Sqdn as presently set up - cheers Bandy 19 Sqdn experimented with cannon-armed Spits much earlier in BoB, but they proved so unreliable they asked for their Browning armed Spits back. Of course, feel free to tweak the bomber _data.inis if you wish. Capun has posted instructions early in the BoB feedback thread on how to alter settings for the gunners - see post #6 on page 1. I have experimented with adding hitboxes (MinExtentPosition= and MaxExtentPosition= values) to both the engines and engine nacelles (I forget which component doesn't have them, just cut & paste the values from the relevant engine to the matching nacelle, or vice-versa). In the end of the day, the RAF found it hard to knock down bombers. It's pretty tough in the BoB campaign, but I think that is as it should be. With practice you can get results - and thanks for your tips on how to do it you posted in the other thread. Of course, you could always remove the self-sealing tanks and fire suppression from the bombers, but wouldn't that be cheating Happy hunting, baltika -
Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback
Baltika replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
OK, here's a quick fix to the "ships that sail on land" problem:- Open up the Battle of Britain_movement.ini file in wordpad or notepad. Scroll down to [Route007] and [Route008] Cut and paste the following as replacements:- [Route007] RouteType=SHIPPING StartArea=Port of Brighton EndArea=Portsmouth Harbour RoutePosition[001]=712000,570500 RoutePosition[002]=666666,570000 RoutePosition[003]=630000,562000 RoutePosition[004]=598000,570000 [Route008] RouteType=SHIPPING StartArea=Port of Le Havre EndArea=Port of Cherbourg RoutePosition[001]=727750,413000 RoutePosition[002]=578000,456000 RoutePosition[003]=540000,456000 Save your amended _movement.ini file. Go and sink some ships I will thoroughly overhaul the _movement.ini file for the next release, as we now have many more port facilities thanks to Gepard's hard work on updating his terrain. In the meantime, thanks for the bug report, keith. If anyone else spots any odd behaviour, drop me a line. Cheers, baltika -
Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback
Baltika replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Hi Keith, Shipping routes are controlled by the Battle of Britain_movement.ini file in the terrain folder. There are a number of routes, those defined as "shipping" set the waypoints for ships in anti-ship missions. Looking at the version of the file released with v 0.60, I think a couple of routes are short on waypoints, with the result that your ships will sail overland. Apologies for not spotting that one pre-release, and thanks for the heads-up. If you want to fiddle, the co-ordinates are absolute map co-ordinates which you can find out using KMD. The idea is to set waypoints which are over sea rather than overland, obviously. I am about to leave on a business trip, so it will be the weekend at least before I can take a look at it. So, v0.61 coming along nicely then Cheers mate, baltika -

Wrench - Beautiful work Thank you (Cracks fingers) You guys just won't let me rest (time for BoB v0.61) As for your ETO Tomahawks - where are they, sir!?!?! But first, I'm off to the MTO - there is something on my hard-drive I have to get out there - Wrench, you completed the 112 Sharkmouth Sqdn ensemble - the least I can do is justice! Cheers mate, baltika -
Brainless Question No.6
Baltika replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Brainless, You have belied your handle by use of your noggin, sir! I try to fly, between modding, but downing 7 Do17s in one mission is beyond me S! You da man ;-) Glad to hear you are having fun with BoB campaign - it is still a WIP, so what do you want to see in v0.61? Can't promise to deliver, but B Bandy RFC's comment about the phases of BoB led to lots of headscratching, resulting in the new improved phased campaign - how is it faring in the harsh light of public oprobium? Anyone survived past the Kanalkampf yet? With apologies for thread-hijacking, I too have had difficulties deleting pilots from within the SFP1 UI, so cheers for the tip, Wrench (when you releasing your ETO Tomahawk? ) baltika -

Drool. . . Want that ETO Tomahawk - have recently been reading about the squadron who flew them from old Blighty - would make a marvellous addition to BoB v0.61 Great stuff baltika -

Baltika replied to MKSheppard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Excellent thinking, and thanks for posting your USAAF info, as I have been trouble tracking that sort of thing down. Full RAF squadron histories right here, down to service dates of each squadron's aircraft & details of movements around the various theatres: http://www.rafweb.org/Menu.htm And here's the link to Michael Holm's excellent site which will provide more info on Luftwaffe units, types in service, commanding officers and wartime bases than you can ever hope to assimilate (believe me, I'm trying ) http://www.ww2.dk/ Good luck with the project. The more WW2 campaigns the better, IMHO. Cheers, baltika -
Problem with a campaign?
Baltika replied to TankHunter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
IIRC, there is a limit to the numbers of flyable squadrons from the [campaign]_data.ini which are called from the [campaign].ini file. So when I build a campaign, I always list my flyable squadrons at the start of the _data.ini, with the non-flyable squadrons listed after. It sounds like your flyable squadron call has exceeded that limit, so it is calling the 1st squadron listed in the [campaign]_data.ini. tn_prvteye is right, that generally means a lot of tedious work renumbering squadrons. It is easier to demonstrate what this means than to describe it. Take a look a the relationship between the [campaign].ini (which calls the flyable squadrons) and [campaign]_data.ini (which lists all squadrons, flyable and non-flyable) files in my campaigns here at combatace, to get the idea. (Burning Sands '44 id the quicker d/l) Also, the [campaign].ini calls start over at 1 when you change nation, just to be extra confusing. That's why I list my flyables in matching order in the [campaign].ini and [campaign]_data.ini files. Otherwise it's too easy to get totally lost It doesn't help that the stock campaigns are generally not ordered in such a tidy manner - but then maybe I'm just over-compulsive cheers, baltika -

You have been warned! ******************************************************************************************** INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. Install SFP1/WoV/WoE (For WoV & WoE follow Wrench's instructions to create an era-specific install - see KB at combatace) 2. Patch up to v 083006 3. Delete all stock aircraft 4. Install the DAT aircraft listed above 5. Install Wrench's WW2 wep pak. 6. Install Gepard's BoB terrain v1.4. For detailed instructions on how to do this, see the readme file for the terrain. 7. Copy the Battle of Britain campaign mod files to the relevant folder of your new install. The simplest thing is to retain the file structure and copy the unpacked files over. Items in the Campaigns, Flight, Menu, Missions, Objects and Objects/Aircraft, PilotData, Sounds and Terrain folders go into those same folders in your new install. The options.ini file goes into your main Strike Fighters folder. When asked to overwrite existing files, say "Yes" each time. YOU DID BACK UP THOSE FILES LISTED ABOVE, DIDN'T YOU? 8. Copy the file Hurricane-R10D.LOD from the Hurricane1 folder into the Hurricane2A folder. 9. Copy all the Spitfire .LOD files from the Spitfire1A folder into the Spitfire2A folder. 10. That's it. Battle of Britain should now be available at the campaign menu. Happy hunting! ******************************************************************************************** KNOWN ISSUES:- 1. Finally sorted out the "random movement of air units" bug. That was the main problem which meant this campaign was a beta release. You should now see a lot more air activity on both sides. 2. Victory conditions. "Winning" a campaign depends on your Force capturing the enemy Base node. So the best the RAF can hope for is a lose or a stall. No invasion of Fortress Europe in 1940! As for the Luftwaffe, well. . . 3. The RAF fly a lot of intercept missions, and they're hard. Good luck! Use high energy boom and zoom attacks, or frontal attacks for best results. Try to keep your wingies alive. Remember this is a war of attrition, so kills matter. Ignore Bitchin' Betty when she tells you to RTB, mission failed. Finish off those bombers! As an extra hint, the campaign engine does not fix intercept waypoints very efficiently. If you rely on them, you will not intercept bomber formations until they are on top of their target - by which time it's too late. Use planning map to move your waypoints to show the most direct route between waypoint 2 and your objective point. Then use Red Crown to give you the best vector to your target. Intercept those bombers while they are still out there! 4. In order to make the phased campaign work properly, I have brought forward the front-line operational dates of certain squadrons (303, 310, 603 and 1 RCAF) to the start of July 1940. This is clearly non-historical. However, having later start dates meant that the timings of the phased campaign were thrown out of kilter, so I chose this as the lesser of two evils. ******************************************************************************************** Credits:- Thanks to Gepard, the A-team, RussoUK2004, Kesselbrut, allenjb42, Pasko, Bunyap, Charles, Kout, Cellinsky, swayne64, pcpilot, CA_Stary, B Bandy RFC, George (Geo) and, of course TK and Thirdwire. Let me also express my grateful thanks to those Devs and modders listed above who have granted permission to allow their work to be included in this package. That makes installation a whole lot easier! And, of course, without their work, this campaign would, quite simply, not exist. Thanks to all! If I have missed anyone out please let me know and I will add your name, with my apologies. Orders of Battle and Unit strengths are taken from the appendices to "The Most Dangerous Enemy - A History of the Battle of Britain" by Stephen Bungay, ISBN 1-85410-801-8. Tally Ho! v0.60 currently awaiting clearance here at combatace Please make sure you have installed Gepard's excellent BoB terrain v1.4 before you install v0.60 of the campaign, or the phased campaign won't run properly, and you will miss out on CA_Stary's fabulous town & village mod (previewed earlier in this thread). A big thank you in particular this time round to B Bandy RFC, CA_Stary, capun and, of course, Gepard for their hard work and encouragement. Cheers guys As ever, all feedback greatly appreciated. But look, I know already, most military historians say the Royal Navy would have scuppered Sealion even if the Luftwaffe had achieved total air superiority. Good job for the Wehrmacht that SFP1/WoV/WoE doesn't model sea battles. . . yet Got my thinking cap on for v0.61 Enjoy baltika -

Check the download package before installing over a modded install! Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback
Baltika replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Prop Heads Forum
Sorry chaps, I made an abortive attempt to upload the v0.60 package today. I have had to pull the file as a very incomplete version of the package had appeared. Anyone who has uploaded the v0.60 which appeared (briefly) today, please delete it as it will like as not break your install. Working on getting the full version uploaded. Cheers, baltika -
Battle of Britain Campaign Feedback

Just wanted to add my thanks to Gepard for his hard work on updating his BoB terrain to v1.4 Cheers mate, the upgrade is thoroughly appreciated, thanks v0.60 of the campaign pack will be released as soon as humanly possible, I promise. Of course, prior installation of Gepard's v1.4 terrain is thoroughly recommended (not to say essential), so don't feel you have to wait, Bandy -
Thanks to scrapper

Baltika replied to Viper6's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes, I've run into this problem as well in the BoB campaign. What I've found is that altering the mission waypoints before you T/O does help, at least in BoB. If you go in to mission planner you will see that the game picks out a long looping intercept course to the mission objective waypoint, which is a fixed point. What I do is move the intervening moveable points (point 3 to mission objective point) into as near a direct line as possible, take off manually, then alt N when airborne. Make sure that your final moveable point is between the intercept point and the attacking bomber's target, which is also a waypoint, closer to the intercept point. Using that method, I often arrive on station at the intercept point and Red Crown tells me the incoming primary targets are still 50+ miles away, which gives me plenty of time to manoeuvre my slow-ass flight into a good bounce position, often upwards of 20 miles from the bombers' target, which at BoB speeds gives plenty of time to get a mission success. That's on the few occasions I can get my eight Brownings to knock a hole in the thick hide of the Luftwaffe bombers. . . Just a thought. Good luck baltika -
Can't find PzKpfw IV or Jagdtiger...
Baltika replied to Bandy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Bandy- In the readme to the campaign files, scrapper credits Russo with the Jagdtiger and the PZKW IV. I'm not sure if these are available for separate d/l. Perhaps drop Russo a PM? Wrench- I have also been working through the various "loose" groundobject files in the EuroWW2 terrain (and a couple of others) to "folder" them as separate groundobjects in the post-SP4 format. Handy for campaign building, but, as you say, very time consuming Given the current renaissance of interest in the WW2 era, might there be some mileage in putting together a comprehensive WW2 Groundobjects pack? Geo has a great one (or two!) on his site, but those obviously only cover his stuff. I appreciate that probably many permissions will be required, but I'm happy to do some gruntwork to put it together, contributors willing. (Apologies if this is verging on thread-hijacking, but the purpose is in keeping with the original question, I think ) Cheers, baltika -
@Gramps - Spitfire skin permission request
Baltika posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Hi Gramps, Just in case you stop by, as I am having trouble accessing your site- I have put together the latest BoB campaign update (v0.60), and I would like to include a mod of your Spit 1A skin. I would be very grateful if you would grant permission for me. This is a very simple re-badging to show appropriate squadron codes for 603, together with a/c serial numbers for actual birds which flew with 603. And, yes, OK, there is a non-historical squadron crest, but I just kinda liked that. Here is a quality control screenshot:- As an added bribe, I have amended the flyables in v 0.60 to include 242 Sqdn, and 41 Sqdn, so at least some sqdns will be flying under the correct colours If you are OK with it, I would like to make similar skins for the other flyable sdqns, based on your work, especially the Polish and Czech sqdns. Cheers for all your WW2 stuff baltika -
