India orders Globemaster,dumps A330
ghostrider883 replied to Abhi's topic in Military and General Aviation
The A330 MRTT was supposed to be selected as IAF's next mid-air refueller. The A330 was competing with the IL-78 and not with C-17. The C-17 is meant to supplement/replace IAF's ageing IL-76 fleet. -

On first look, I thought the nose cone looked a bit smaller. But on confirming again, it looks liek t hsaem old nose cone. It however has a new EL/M-2032 radar to guide the Derby missile. -

Lockheed Martin Unveils First New F-16 For Pakistan In Ceremony Attended By Air Force Chiefs FORT WORTH, Texas, October 13th, 2009 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] unveiled the first of 18 new F-16s being produced for Pakistan in ceremonies today at its Fort Worth, Texas, facility. Officials including the Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. and Pakistan Air Forces were on hand to witness the event. Air Chief Marshal Rao Quamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), accepted the first F-16 Block 52 aircraft on behalf of his nation. Also present were Husain Haqqani, Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States, and other senior officials. The U.S. government was represented by Rep. Kay Granger, Texas 12th District, and Gen. Norton Schwartz, Chief of Staff of the Air Force. "Peace Drive is the flagship of modernization for Pakistan's Air Force. It is the latest configuration of the best 4th generation multirole fighter available in the world today," said John Larson, vice president of F-16 programs for Lockheed Martin. The aircraft order is designated as "Peace Drive I," continuing a long tradition of naming F-16 international sales programs with the word Peace. The program raises the total number of F-16s ordered by Pakistan to 54. The Pakistan Air Force received its first F-16, in the Block 15 F-16A/B configuration, in 1982. Pakistan has been operating Lockheed Martin aircraft since 1963, when it received C-130B airlifters. The Peace Drive I order is for 12 F-16Cs and six F-16Ds, all powered by the Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 engine. The first aircraft – a two-seat F-16D model – will be delivered to the U.S. government (as agent for Pakistan in the Foreign Military Sales process) in December, with the remainder following in 2010. The F-16 is the choice of 25 nations. More than 4,400 aircraft have been delivered worldwide from assembly lines in five countries. The F-16 program has been characterized by unprecedented international cooperation among governments, air forces and aerospace industries. Major upgrades to all F-16 versions are being incorporated to keep the fleet modern and fully supportable over the aircraft's long service life. Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2008 sales of $42.7 billion. F-16 is a registered trademark of Lockheed Martin Corp. LM Unveils First New F-16 For Pakistan -

Indian Navy’s first four MiG-29K fighters arrive in knocked down condition December 5th, 2009 - 6:51 pm ICT by IANS - New Delhi, Dec 5 (IANS) The first four Russian-made Mig-29K fighters to be deployed on the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, formerly the Admiral Gorshkov, when it is inducted into the Indian Navy have been received in a knocked-down condition and will now be assembled in this country, an official said Saturday. The jets arrived in the country Dec 4, celebrated as Navy Day. “The four jets, in a knocked down condition, were delivered yesterday (Friday) by an AN-124 aircraft. It will be a while before the jets are assembled and start flying,” an Indian Navy official said but refused the divulge the present location of the aircraft. The jets were purchased by the Indian Navy as part of a $1.5 billion deal signed with Russia in January 2004 for the Admiral Gorshkov. Of this $740 million was meant for the aircraft and the balance for the refitting of the carrier The Russians have now upped the price to between $2.2 billion and $2.9 billion and negotiations on this are currently underway. The navy will eventually be getting 12 MiG-29K single-seater aircraft and four MiG-29KUB twin-seat trainer aircraft, some in flyaway condition. The trainer version is similar to the single-seater but with a slightly reduced operational range. The navy has named its MiG-29K squadron the “Black Panthers”. As the 45,000 tonne Kiev class aircraft carrier, is scheduled to be delivered by 2012, the jets will undertake shore-based sorties from Goa. The contract for the jets also stipulates the procurement of hardware for pilot training and aircraft maintenance, including flight simulators and interactive ground and sea-based training systems. The navy’s MiG-29Ks have arrester gear and stronger landing gear for carrier landings, folding wings and rust-proofing to prevent corrosion from salt water. The aircraft features a fully digitised glass cockpit, improved engine protection against ingestion of foreign particles like birds, a multi-mode radar and increased range. The contract ensures that the navy gets the entire spectrum of services, including a full mission simulator. The MiG-29K will provide aerial cover the carrier’s battle group, acquire air superiority and destroy sea-borne and ground-based targets with guided high-precision weapons during the day and at night and in any weather conditions. The aircraft, the first bought by the navy after the Sea Harriers, will also be capable of playing the role of a midair refueller. -

Tejas's trainer version makes successful maiden flight
ghostrider883 posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
26 November 2009 The maiden flight of the two-seater trainer version of the indigenous light combat aircraft 'Tejas' Thursday was successful, officials said. The flight took off at 1 p.m. from the airport of Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd at Bangalore. 'It is a two-seater version of the LCA and can be used as trainer. The successful maiden flight covered an altitude of 9 km and a speed of 0.85 Mach,' said a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) official. The prototype was flown by Group Captain Ritu Raj Tyagi of the National Flight Test Centre (NFTC). Air Commodore Rohit Varma, project director (Flight Test), was in the rear seat. 'Extensive preparatory work that has gone in resulted in the first flight profile being executed with clock work precision. All the objectives set out for the flight were achieved and all the systems on board the new prototype performed well throughout the sortie,' said the official. 'The trainer, when fully developed, will have the full operational capability from the rear cockpit as well. As Tejas trainer has a lot of commonality with Tejas Naval version, even Tejas Navy programme would see accelerated progress as a result of the successful first flight,' the official added. The first eight Tejas aircraft are to be delivered to the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Indian Navy between 2010 and 2012 and will be fitted with the F404-IN20 engines from the US-based General Electric. -

I got to rather embrassingly admit that all these folders were lying in the recycle bin. It was the last place i looked and found it there today. It also gave me a chance to add a few more details to the skins. Dave was approving them as soon as i was finishing uploading them one by one Have got one more skin left...a Kazhakhstan Air Force MiG-27M skin. Need to add a few more details to it. A request to someone willing......please make skins for East German & East European MiG-23BNs. -
