Lockheed to supply 18 F-16s to Pakistan
ghostrider883 replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Good to know the facts from the horse's mouth  .I know they were not "wired" for dropping nuclear bombs when the airframes were delivered. The book states Pakistanis were able to modify the F-16 locally for dropping nuclear bombs. but Dave, wouldn't it possible to fool the a/c failsafe system, so to say, make the system think that the nuke bomb is just another dumb bomb. when the pilot drops the bomb, the nuke arms itself when it leaves the hardpoint? I , of course don't really know how these things work. Just asking. I have read India's aerial nuke delivery platform is the Mirage 2000. Jaguars & MiG-27s were rejected for the role because of thier poor performance at high altitudes. -

Exactly. That's why I feel India & Israel are natural partners having a common enemy. This, inspite of the fact that India has a sizeable Muslim population. -

When India became independent in 1947 and when the erstwhile Royal Indian Navy split into Indian & Pakistani Navies, the ships and equipment were split. Indian Navy getting a large part of the resources. The British at that time saw India as a stratergic partner and wanted to help in building a strong Indian Armed Forces(Right uptil 1962 alomst all of major Indian defence acquistions were of British origin - Hunters, Vampires, Canberras, Frigates, Destroyers). The British Admirality suggested that the Indian Navy have two fleets (Western Fleet - for the west coast & Eastern Fleet - for the western coast) .Each fleet was to have a carrier, destroyers, frigates, submarines,Minesweepers. The British were willing to fulfill India's requirements but sadly India's financial position was not good and India could only acquire one carrier with an air wing of Sea Hawks and Bruguet Alizes. Even in the Indian Navy, there were people who were against the idea of acquiring aircraft carriers. The Navy had enjoyed spectacular success through carrier launched strikes by Sea Hawks and Alizes in the 1971 war. Sea Harriers replaced Sea Hawks. WHen HMS Hermes became available for sale and was offered to India, the Navy gladly took it. If you ever get a come across the books, "Transition to Truimph : History of I.N. 1947-75" & "Transition to Eminence : History of the I.N 1975-90", read it. You will understand why India needs a strong Navy. So why does the Navy need a blue water Navy? Didn't the world notice how the Indian Navy responded during the Dec. 26 Tsunami. The Indian Navy ships were among the first to reach affected areas with help relief material(this inspite of the fact that India's south eastern coast was badly hit by the Tsunami as well. Why did the US agree to sell the USS Trenton( INS Jalashwa) to the Indian Navy? Having a kid brother who serves in the Merchant Navy, I am glad that Indian Navy ships regularly patrol and escort Indian ships through the troubled Malacca straits . The Indian Navy has a stratergic role to play in the region to prevent terrorism and piracy. Some time back, the Navy held its largets war games with the US( the US brought two a/c carriers), Australian, Singaporean and Japanese Navies. Besides the Chinese great is always there. Nope, the deal to buy 3 Tu-22M3 bombers for the Navy was cancelled. Instead the Navy floated global tenders for replacment of the Tu-142 fleet. Contenders are P-8, A319 , IL-38SD and Dassault Falcon 900. But one thing is for sure the Navy is certianly getting 1 Akula lass SSBN(or is it a SSN?) on lease for 10 years( just like the Soviet Charlie class nuclear submarine that the Navy acquired in the late-80s) India wants closer ties with the US. Hence the Indo-US nuclear deal. The sale of USS Trenton is a sign of improvment in relations. US offering F-16s and F-18s for sale to India is significant as well. In fact, teh first batch of I.N pilots who would fly MiG-29Ks off the INS Vikramaditya recently returned from the US after competing training on USN T-45s -

No, that's not what I meant. What I mean is that Pakistan acquired weapons from the US under the pretext of fighting communism and terror and always used them against India. They got the US to believe in their lies.Just prior to the 1965 war, when Pakistan launched attacks on Indian post in deserts around Rann of Kutch using M-48s and M-24s, when India protested with the US vehemently, the US said it can't be and asked for proof as thye got assurances from the Pakistanis that these weaposn wuld not be used against India. It was only photos brought back by a bullet-riddled IAF PR Vampire showing Paki tanks in Indian territory that US imposed sanctions against Pakistan. Eventhough I understand the anti-communist policies of the US but from our point of view, it just seems that US keeps on making the same mistakes by supplying weapons to Pakistan because it would eventually spill Indian blood. Remember Pakistani dictators whom US backed? Ayub Khan, Yahya Khan, Zia-ul-Haq? To the US, they all seemed modern, western and peace loving, but they were responsible for the major Indo-Pak wars that happened or could have happened. Musharaff is next. Half the time of Pakistan's existence, they have been under military rule, whose officers swear to extract revenge from India for the humilitation their country recieved at hands of India.(Don't believe me? You must watch teh passing out parade of officers from their academies). They know they can't win a conventional war against India, so they resort to a proxy war, as in Kashmir. Or if these really go wrong in Pakistan, they will not hesitate to lob a few nuclear armed missiles at Indian cities. -

Events leading upto Indo-Pak wars 1965: US supplied M-48s, M-24s, guns, F-104s, B-57s, F-86s, Destroyers & frigates for the Navy to Pakistan to supposedly fight communism. WHom were they used to fight against? WHo attacked first? 1971: US brokered a deal to supply ex-Luftwaffe Sabre Mk.6s to Pakistan via Germany. Brig. Gen. Chuck Yaeger was an advisor to the PAF when the 71 war happened. He was mighty pissed when IAF Hunters destroyed his aircraft during an air raid. A War almost broke out in 1986(after US supplied F-16 & AH-1s to Pakistan). Everyone remembers Pakistan's misadventure in KArgil that was Musharraf's brain child. -

Yeah, a couple of Nuclear bomb armed F-16s equipped with latest jammer pods piloted by Jehadi Paki pilots entering Indian airspace would do no harm, or would it? Its only a matter of time before someone gets Musharaff. Already there are elements in the Paki armed forces who are againt killing their own "brothers" in supposed "anti-terror operations". How may times have they used F-16s in anti-terror ops? They are only using PAA Cobra helicopters. -

Adding Sidewinders to Hunter
ghostrider883 replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The skins for MiG-21s are there in howling1's IAF MiG-21(Type 96, 96B) pack. The IAF MiG-23MF skin is there in howling1's IAF MiG-23MF "Rakshak" Mod. I never released those MiG-21PF & Su-7 skin as it was meant for a project. The MiG-29 skin was for wpnssgt's MiG-29 and it should be in the d/l section here at CA. -
Adding Sidewinders to Hunter
ghostrider883 replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Indian Hunters carried out successful R-60 trials in the mid- 1980s.There's even a painting on a Thunderbolts Hunter carrying R-60s at BR.But this R-60/Hunter combination was never put into service, as IAF had more capable Interceptors/air defence fighters. Indian Hunters that were lost in the air battles againt F-86s were to the F-86s guns, not the AIM-9. IF you believe in S/L Alam's fairy tales of how he shot down IAF Hunters one by one, I can't help you. There were some F-86s kills by IAF Hunters well. So not all battles were lost by IAF Hunters. -

An italian firm was contracted for the design of the ADS(Air Defence Ship - new INS Vikrant). Once it would be ready, it is slated to have an air wing comprising of Naval LCAs, Ka-31s and MiG-29Ks. There's news today that the Russia has started demanding more money for the already contracted building of three new Krivak III class(Talwar class) stealth frigates slated to be delivered in 2012. India had saved Sukhoi's ass from disaster by ordering the Su-30MKI, the Russians who were rigid on putting anything non-Russian on direct delivery aircraft readily agreed to put Non-Russian components in the aircraft. That at a time when the MiG-29M was slated to be selected over the Sukhoi as the SU was considered too heavy for IAF requirements. The decison to go in for the Su drew heavy flak from retired IAF officials, yet the govt went in for the Su(some say it was due to pressure that Pakis were in negotiations to by Su-27s from Russia). Now the Russkies want India for save MiG's ass(eventhough it has become a part of UAC) by going for the MiG-35. Russia will be shooting itself in the foot if it continues its , as we say in India , "Natak". I wouldn't be surprised if the russkies say "IF you don't want it, go to hell". We will sell it to Pakis . -

Arm twisting tactics by the Russkies. They very well know how much the navy needs this ship and its air wings of MiG-29Ks. The Viraat and its air wing of Sea Harriers are reaching the end of thier life in the Navy. There's no way the New INS Vikrant would be ready for commisioning before 2014. I just hope the Govt works out a middle path for the Navy's sake. -

That's the typical Commie reaction..."we cannot be a part of imperialist yankee war plans". While they Commies raise hell when there's talk of improvment in Indo-US relations, they won't raise a word on the"imperilast" Chinese desings in India's neighbourhood. The Chinese are building a mjor Naval port in Pakiland, Sri Lanka and Burma and Bangladesh...all to contain the Indian Navy. The Commies don't see any "aggresiveness" in these Chinese designs. Recently, the Army reported large Chinese incursions in the North Eastern border. Its is almost as if the Commies expect the Chinese Navy to protect India's coastline. No one can ever forget that when the Indian Army was taking a pounding at the Hands of the Chinese Army in the 1962 war and while the rest of the country was praying those brave men , the Indian Commies were busy proclaiming -Chairman Mao is our Chairman. TRAITORS!!!!!!!!!!!! God knows what will happen, if by chance, the IAF selects the F-16 or F-18 as its MRCA. Trust me, the commies would say, better fly those MiG-21s than fly those imperialist Yankee planes
