Complex static/parked Lightning Mk6 canopy raised (complete)

I've decided to post each static aircraft as a complete folder so that the installation process is as simple as possible. I felt that the manual installation in my earlier post was too much work for a lot of people. This way you can pick and choose the statics you want to include in your own missions. "If you build it, they will come". Well, if you make it easy for people, they will use it. This posting consists of a Lightning Mk6 complex static/parked aircraft with its canopy raised, a sample mission (.msn) file that makes use of it, and an extract of the optional changes to the VIETNAMSEA_TARGETS.INI (or equivalent) file that you may want to apply. Thanks, regards, PNT/comrpnt :-) -

File Name: Complex Static/Parked Aircraft. Phase I (F4-J, Fmk6, C-130J) File Submitter: comrpnt File Submitted: 5 Jul 2006 File Updated: 13 Jul 2009 File Category: Static Aircraft Update v1.10 The SH-3 has been removed from this pack on request. To acquire the original model please contact Capun at capun1950@yahoo.com to request access to the model. This pack provides a way to add more life into the otherwise sparsely populated airfields in SFP1 and WOV. I thought that I'd have a go at trying to use existing aircraft as the basis of complex static/parked aircraft. Here is the result. I hope you enjoy using them. [Thanks] Many thanks to all those folks who created the original aircraft I've used as the basis for my own editing. And also many thanks for the hints, tips and support over the past few weeks on the forums. Without you this work would not have been possible. This posting consists of a set of complex static/parked aircraft, a mission (.msn) file that makes use of them, and an extract of the optional changes to the VIETNAMSEA_TARGETS.INI (or equivalent) file that you may want to apply to populate Airfield 1 further with support equipment. Installation instructions are provided in the enclosed README.TXT. The mission is based at Da Nang, South Vietnam and consists of two squadrons of RAF complex static/parked aircraft and some AI aircraft on final approach. On the ramp you'll find RAF 74 Sqn and RAF 56 Sqn. At the North end of the runway are two QRA shelters containing two armed F4-Js and support equipment. All ready to go. On final approach are a pair of Mk6 Lightnings from RAF 5 Sqn. Lined up behind the Lightnings is a RAAF C-130J transport aircraft on final approach. Behind the C-130J is a RAAF A310 MRTT on final approach. Two jeeps are also driving around the airfield. The first one circuits the aircraft on the ramp. The second drives to and parks up at the North QRA complex. More to follow in subsequent phases. Regards, P.T. Click here to download this file

Complex Static/Parked Aircraft. Phase I (F4-J, Fmk6, C-130J)

Ha ha. Thanks Eightlein. :-) I'll be interested to know how easy or difficult it is to install these statics using my instructions. I'd like to have simply posted the folders containing the finished planes but the overall zip file size was just too large for most people to consider downloading. So, instead there's a bit of leg work to get them installed. I suppose I could look into writing a .bat file that does the copying and renaming. Mmmm, might look into that if too many people get confused. Another possibility it to post each static aircraft separately but complete. Then you'd only have to drop the _static folder into your Objects/Aircraft folder and away you go. This would still require something like 20mb per aircraft per download. What to do? I'll see what feedback I get before deciding whether it's worth changing the way people should install this stuff. A couple of things I found when fixing the heading bug. 1. Further editing, as in removal, of the [MinExtent], [MaxExtent] seemed to fix the heading bug. Also, leaving in the [ReferenceArea] section had a positive effect. On some models this stopped the programm from drawing the static and I was left with nothing on the ramp. 2. I've got a static Valiant but even though I've cleared out the same sections as for the F-4J and Lightning, it still has the heading bug. More work required to figure out why it won't face the way I tell it. 3. I re-edited the SH-3 and got it working fine, but if you place it on the hard stand South of the runway (Airfield 1) then it starts rolling away and comes to a halt a couple of hundred yards South from the hard stand. Originally I wanted the SH-3 to be parked at the South end but couldn't fix this bug, so I moved it to the ramp and then it behaved itself. Can't seem to figure out what setting to use to turn the brakes on. I was thinking that perhaps it has something to do with the rolling resistance of the surface its on, and perhaps the angle of that surface (which looks flat to me though). 4. A minor annoyance I noticed is when the pair of AI Lightnings touchdown they flare very badly (burying their tails in the runway!). Also they come in too slow but I couldn't seem to tweak the .msn mission file any more to fix their approach speed. So, a few minor things to do with the mission but for the most part I'm happy with the results of the statics. Next job is to sort out the Valiant heading and then do a mission with static Lightnings on the ramp and QRA and have a A310 MRRT take off and head out to sea to do some circuits for some A2A refuelling practice. Might try to sort out the waypoints to have the MRTT land back at base after its circuits too. That would be fun. After that a similar mission involving a QRA scramble to intercept two Bears coming in from the North East, with a bit in A2A refuelling on the way. Probably do a night version of this one too! Watch this space. Cheers, regards, P.T. -
