Yeah, I got a Dell M1530 with an 8600GT and a month later I saw another laptop, forget which company, that was also 15" but had I think a 9700? It was a little less, too. Sigh.

Rapidshare and MU have DL limits, per day I believe, unless you pay for a membership to increase/unlimit them. I can't imagine any other reason why it wouldn't work for you, though. -
People that are too serious display a serious lack of personality! There are a few of us here that enjoy racing, and we do talk about it in the racing forums, but I must admit this is a combat flight sim-oriented site!

Well, we're in the home stretch now. The BSG webisodes that were promised will start coming out in 2 weeks or so, with the show returning a month or so later. Then comes our final half-season of eps where we'll find out what the deal is with Earth and who the final Cylon is and hopefully some other things will be answered as well! I'm eagerly awaiting its return, and season 4.0 comes out on DVD 1/9/09.

Aircraft Tipping over

Looking at FC's awesome ASCII art ( ) it looks like it has 2 left feet instead of mirror images. That still shouldn't result in a flip, but I can see how the game could see it as unstable. Did you use the same 3D model for both main gear bogies instead of "flipping" the left to make the right? -

Guarantee lots of sales and call it "Call of Duty: Air Combat." -
What do you think is missing from this sim?
JediMaster replied to scouserlad13's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Of course, the Jane's sims from Origin all had much larger budgets and graphics were simpler, leaving them more time to do things like that. Graphics approaching photo-realism has resulted in art resources for games going up exponentially, leaving less manpower for things like UIs, a "living" world, and so on. -
It's blocked from here (Thanks, DoD!), but is that the one where he blows himself up inside the car but the car stays intact? I always thought that was of questionable taste, much like the one from Ford I think where the sunroof cuts off the cat's head.

New to IL2

Hyperlobby is the util most used for Il-2 I believe. -
That's a great lineup. Some may prefer AMD to Intel or nvidia to ATI, but they're really all equivalent.

Oh yeah, looking at that it suddenly looks nothing like a Bear! I guess that's similar to how the KC-135 is not a 707 at all. -

You need a little placard to post when you say that. Maybe some Muzak playing, too. -
SFP-1/WOV/WOE/WOI Compilation Title?
JediMaster replied to ShinKazama88's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
To call it an Anthology sort of precludes more releases, doesn't it? It implies finality, and I don't want that! Maybe take a page from MS and call it "Thirdwire Bob." Or "Thirdwire Jet Sim 2009." -

I'd like more on the MP side, but TK has apparently already nixed that idea. I would love the ability to fly a campaign or single missions in MP instead of the modified quick-mission format with mandatory air starts and no-surprises 16 airplanes/4 types max scenarios. I admit AG bombing is made harder than it should be by the lack of systems for it, but you can learn to get around it and just dumb bomb relatively well. -
CFS3 MP mismatches are a serious issue to any non-stock CFS3 install. I had to give it up when the ONE guy I flew MP with had to reinstall and it stopped working. For solo play, though, I enjoy Firepower a great deal. The planes they included are excellent and the upgrades to things like the effects are universal.

I've got more theories than Einstein on crack, but nothing to support them really. Part of the problem is all of this wasn't mapped out from the beginning so there weren't many "clues" left behind. Only at the very end of season 3 did they pick those 4 of the final 5, so who knows when they decided who the last one was?

LOL, ok, but a 9800GT is slower than a 4850! You should look at the 9800GTX+ models at least if you're going green instead of red.

Well, there was an odd stereotype...that bit them hard!

Historic Jet Combat SFP1's fictional setting notwithstanding. -
Let's all thank the DoD from preventing me from seeing that.

Exactly. A lot of what came before didn't do so because of some "higher plan", it was just convenient, or limited by budget or technology, or because some actor didn't want to come back, etc. So as long as the core of who the characters are, what the Federation is, what the Enterprise is and represents, and who their adversaries are remains intact (no one will go for Klingons in the Federation versus evil Vulcans for example), I think everything else is fair game. Except I like the Enterprise from the first 6 films better.
-
It depends on how much you want to "future proof" your system. A 512MB 4850 is plenty sufficient for today, although a 4870 is of course faster. The full 1GB of RAM has been shown to improve the 4870's performance in several games, however, I don't know what you will use it for other than flight sims where I'm certain it will have little bearing (at least the ones out today, SoW:BoB is an unknown). I believe in Far Cry 2 it was shown to be noticeably faster (ie not just in a benchmark).

Yes, F4:AF has graphics little altered from the original 1998 F4 release. OF/RV/FF have had their graphics updated quite a bit more.
